LINZ, Austria (Reuters) - A four-year-old Austrian boy was so disgusted by his grandmother's plum dumplings that he dialed emergency services for help, Austrian state television ORF said on Tuesday.

When the startled policeman on the other end of the line in Linz, Upper Austria, asked the young caller what he thought the police should do, the boy was clueless, the report said.

The officer pleaded with the boy to give grandmother's plum dumplings (Zwetschkenknoedel) another chance. He agreed and hung up.

At least the officer handled it in the correct way. If it was the in US or Canada, they might have arrested Grandma.

the kid would be sitting in protective services and the entire family would be up on child endangerment charges.

Don't forget sensitivity training. When in doubt, send someone to sensitivity training for "reprogramming."

Christ, when I started reading it I was really expecting to read that the kid was so fed up w/ the dumplings that he killed poor ol' granny. Nice to see a story about plum dumplings that doesn't end in bloodshed for once.

Damn, I know Europe is known as the Nanny State, but calling Big Brother because you don't like granny's cooking? Yeesh...

That's what I was thinking too.

All I know is, when I was 4, my grandma gave me things like hot dogs, nutty bars, and bits of bologna and cheese and crackers shaped in little happy faces. Of course, that's partially because no one in my family dares to give me budding. Isn't that right, sis?

Don't make me tell the pudding story here, you may never live it down (though is funny in hind sight . . . no wait, it was funny then too) :)

Whenever my grandma made me something I didn't like I just put it in a napkin, left the table and threw it away outside in the trash. I didn't need the services of 9-1-1...

My grandma is an AMAZING cook. Of course, she also had to cook for nine kids, a husband, and farmhands for years and years. No one on the planet makes better biscuits and gravy, I mean, those things are the stuff dreams are made of. I can't imagine not liking a grandma's cooking.
