Shane & Steph Interview

Recommended Posts

Guest FeArHaVoC

I was reading an old interview with Stephanie & Shane McMahon when they were on "TSN's Michael Landsberg Show," from August 3rd, 1999. I found these questions & answers interesting considering where the company and their policies are today. I think it's time they get back to this.....

<<<Landsberg asked how the Internet had changed the business for the WWF. Shane said that it was for the better. "The fans have an insatiable appetite for what we do," he said. "We take a lot of [the fans'] ideas and input through the message boards, through chats and things like that. We totally interact with our fans, take their ideas and make them feel a part of our stories. That's one of the keys to our success -- we're good listeners." He also didn't think that a fan can know too much about what is going on behind the scenes.

Stephanie was asked a relationship question, alluding to her on-camera romance with Test. "If you're asking if I would ever date a wrestler, certainly I would," Stephanie said. "However it wouldn't be good business for me to get romantically involved with anyone in any aspect of our business." >>>

If you're interested or bored you can read the whole interview here

Ok, why does Brooke have to hold her tits up like that?

Anywhoo, I found that interview interesting. Steph wouldn't get involved with a wrestler unless he laid the pipe down to her really well.

And interacting with their fans? Only when the fans stroke the company's ego and agree with what they say.

I actually find no fault with Shane. Since he isn't in charge of storylines at all to speak of, we can't really fault him for not listening to us. Shane is by far my favorite McMahon, and the only one I actually WANT to see on TV.

Yeah it kinda sucks that the favorite McMahon is never on tv. Is he doing anything backstage?

I don't think Shane has anything to do with Backstage. At one point he use to have a hand in the Creative stuff. Story lines, matches, etc. I've read he attends the PPV's though.

I know Shane is President or something or the Media work. He works more with Linda while we get stuck with Steph & Vince.

Man, that Brooke Burke picture is getting on my nerves.

I think I read somewhere that Shane got frustrated with the direction of the product and distanced himself from the production meetings. He's more involved in the operations side of WWE, Inc.

He is the President of New Media and Public Relations.

And he's the McMahon who's actually dissatisfied with the product and could stop all of this shit... (sigh)

I want to see Shane kick Trips's ass. I doubt he could, but he's nimble and suicidal enough to maybe pull it off.

What I don't get is why Vince would not be pissed at Steph for dating a wrestler. I mean you'd think he would have that "I want something better for you" complex. Especially a wrestler that is obviously on steroids and probobaly pain pills and is just destroying his body. I wonder if Vince really is mad, but it is one of those situations where when Steph wants things booked a certain way, he can't say no to Daddy's little girl......

I've also read that Shane doesn't like being an on Camera Character. Much like Linda. (thank god)

Don't worry Annie, it's very catching these days. I even find myself saying it in real life. Sadly.

I'm fairly sure that Marissa is part of the Mazzola oil family.. I certainly haven't heard otherwise.

Uh... aren't you The Rock Is The European Champion? How'd you change your name? Did you get it changed, or did you re register and managed to get 1600+ posts since?

If the latter, that's scary.

Damn I wish I knew Steph personally, I would call her out on that comment, BIG TIME. She's a complete hypocrite.

Damn. I think we know that all McMahons are hypocrites anyway, but yeah, someone should call her out that.

To be fair, Shane has never really been contradictory in anything I can remember, same with Linda, who is moreless a straight shooter when it comes to those conference calls of hers. As for Vince, thats a whole other story.....

Seems like Steph is taking her dad's role in the company right out from under him, even the personality traits are the same.

Does Marissa work for WWE in some fashion, too? I remember back in the Wrestlemania X-7 magazine, in the back of the book they had pictures of the wrestlers and other employees, and Marissa Mazzola is in there. First, I wondered why it appears she hasn't taken the McMahon name (I don't blame her, really). I had assumed she was working with WWE because of that, but now that it appears she's from the Mazzola empire, kinda makes you wonder why she's not working over there. . .

or maybe I'm just an idiot.

I wish I knew Stephanie personally. I'd drive a wedge between her and Trips so I COULD HAVE HER FOR MYSELF!!!!!!!

Yummy Stephanie...

GOD I LOVE THAT NAME.

Aye, as do I.

Also, I have to wonder if maybe some of Vince's apparent funk is because of the rumored Stephie-HHH coupling. Let's be honest . . . unless Vince has recently undergone a mid-life crisis, I can't really see where he'd be too very happy about such a thing. If it is happening, it's certainling bringing down the quality of his shows.

And I miss Shane, too. Shane's the only McMahon I care for, really. Linda hasn't been around enough for me to care for one way or another. As a character, she has points with me for bringing Foley back for Mania. But that's really all I can associate her with.

Shane was just fun to watch anytime he was on camera, whether it was a match or if he was clowning around.

I think this interview just kind of proves that something has shaken Vince up incredibly for him to be so low key while the RAW product, and the WWE in general, suffers so much. The McMahon's, as a unit, are kind of . . . off center now. Old school Vince McMahon would have taken the WCW buy out and given us the greatest wrestling in history. He would have been able to sustain the fallout from the mergers for a year or two, I believe.

Now . . . now he's just aimless, and the kid that could do something about it has stepped out of the picture it seems. Come back, Shane? Please?

Well, a few years back when Stone Cold visited Howard Stern, Marissa was there as a kind of publicist or manager; this was during a taping of Howards E show. She also used to be on camera as co-host of Livewire with Michael Cole, I think it was.

And yes, Shane is my favorite McMahon too. I really wish he would've been given Steph's job, and visa versa. After all, Steph is the one with the business degree, which is the side Shane is working on now. Shane probably has one too, but it seems as if Shane is more qualified for a WWE writing job... despite the rumour that he wanted to put the WCW Championship on Test.

Just have Vince or Heyman reel him in when he wants to do stuff like the above, and I think Shane would've worked out better. But Shane apparently doesn't like the backstage stuff as much anymore, with the product on the downward swing, and I'm sure concerns about being on the road has just as much to do with him not having an active role with tv.

I think one of the reasons that they were so kind to the 'net is because I'm pretty sure (although I can't say first-hand) that the 'net was primarily bashing WCW in 1999.

I've been reading DDT Digest reports of WCW TV shows from 1999, and the parallels between them and WWE from this year is a bit unnerving. The "Hulkamania rebirths" stood out to me. The DDT reporters were correct back in '99 in saying that it may have popped live crowds, but it did nothing to improve business, especially in the long-run. Just like what happened earlier this year.

Oh, and I remember Marissa Mazzola from Livewire in 2000 with Coach. I recall her picking (correctly) Kurt Angle as the King of the Ring.

Marrisa used to work in public relations for the company. The last I heard was she resigned from the company last year to pursue an acting career. If you saw the Scorpian King movie, she had a very small, one sentence part in the movie.
