Guest DJ Jeff Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 Since I would like to get better at making banners, I'm going to take suggestions as to how I can improve. Post all your feedback here, and I'll use that advice when I make my next banner.
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 But we've... BEEN giving you advice. You just won't take it. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest DJ Jeff Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 But we've... BEEN giving you advice. You just won't take it. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge First, I do appreciate the advice, and I have been taking your advice, but for some reason, my banners still suck. *sigh* Maybe I just wasn't meant to be a great banner maker. Anyways, yeah, if you do have any other advice to offer, then post it here.
Guest KingOfOldSchool Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 For one, use some variation in the background. Use pre-made backgrounds, if you have to. If were to look around the 'net, you could find plenty. All I've seen of your backgrounds is either a solid color or a solid color with a texture variation.
Guest papacita Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 I don't have a problem with most of Jeff's backgrounds. There's nothing wrong with a plain background, IMO, as long as it falls in with the color scheme. Sometimes less is more. If I had to give you some advice, it would be to pay attention to scale when you're enlarging your images (to avoid the stretching that people have been complaining about).
Guest T®ITEC Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 Yes. Stop stretching. The DAMN. PICTURES. That would help a lot.
Guest DJ Jeff Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 So how exactly do I determine whether I've stretched a pic too much?
Guest Midnight Express83 Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 for starters. Use the resize feature before you cut out, or even after. It makes life easier. And makes the pic look good. Second: I could use this one too, change your fonts and colors. Make them stick out, not blend it or blur. Third: I can use this one too, change your background style.
Guest areacode212 Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 Here's my advice: have more variety in your compositions. Practically all your banners are the same: Pictures of your subjects in the foreground, and faded versions of them in the background. They're not very interesting. Just look at various artists' sites so you can get ideas. So how exactly do I determine whether I've stretched a pic too much? Um, look at it. If it looks stretched, then you've stretched it too much. Here are some of the banners I've done for another message board: http://www.geocities.com/junimitsu/
Guest Reverb Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 The best advice I can give you is to take your time when you're doing a banner, splash, signature image, wallpaper...
Guest areacode212 Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 Another thing---when you rescale a layer in Photoshop, there's an option to lock the proportions, so you don't get any kind of "stretching" effect.
Guest cynicalprofit Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 Stop centering everything, try some cropping or really close up. Hell do that as a bg. take a close up of something, cut copy paste, resize to bigger, and boom, new background baby. If i was mean, id charge you for the advice, im a professional as of 2 weeks ago. Graduations suck kids.
Guest papacita Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 For Photoshop and a few other programs, I know that if you hold the shift key when you're resizing, it'll stay in scale.

Guest Cancer Marney Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 I seem to detect some self-interest in that advice. Not that I'm complaining.
Guest T®ITEC Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 So how exactly do I determine whether I've stretched a pic too much? Well, if the subject comes out looking just a *little* too wide, too hall, or not even close to what humans look like... Then it's too stretched out. Fo sheez, man, you must know what a stretched picture looks like.
Guest Leena Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 Fo sheez, man, you must know what a stretched picture looks like. Apparently, he doesn't. I haven't seen Jeffy around lately, maybe he did take my wise advice.
Guest T®ITEC Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 We could only hope, right Alina? I didn't mind him so much in the beginning.. I tried to encourage him with his banners, even. Too bad that he's Cutthroat II now.
Guest BifEverchad Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 That guy only seems like he's looking for attention anyways. Be it good, or bad. Don't pay mind him anymore, eventually he'll just get the hint and disappear. *crosses fingers*
