The Gambler

I'm listening to Our Lady Peace's "Spiritual Machines" and this comes up:

"Take death for example

A great deal of our effort goes into avoiding it

We make extraordinary efforts to delay it

And often consider its intrusion a tragic event

Yet we’d find it hard to live without it

Death gives meaning to our lives

It gives importance and value to time

Time would become meaningless if there were too much of it

If death were indefinately put off

The human psyche would end up

Well like the gambler of the Twilight Zone episode"

Anybody wanna help and tell me what "The Gambler" was about?

Well, I could be wrong, but I believe that they could very well be referring to an episode called The Prime Mover. In it, a gambler discovers that his friend (Buddy Ebsen) has telekinetic powers, and decides to exploit that for his own personal gain. At the end, he puts all of his money that's he won, on the line and fails to listen to his friend who tries to tell him that his telekinetic powers have left him (of course he was making it up, in hopes that his friend would come to his senses). So, I think that they mean that if you were to keep living indefinately, the human psyche would eventually be gone, much like what happened in this episode of the Twilight Zone. Once again, I could be off, but that's just how it looks to me.
