Guest Steve J. Rogers Report post Posted October 3, 2002 Kind of in the midst of writing a paper on this topic and thought I'd see if I could get a thing going here for some "inspiration" Off top of my head right now I have: Best Pride of The Yankees A Gold Standard if you will Jackie Robinson Story One of the few worthwhile sports biopics during the pre-60's *61 A recent gem that sort of really tells more about the last summer of baseball's "Golden Age" especially the NY baseball landscape Brian's Song Goes right along with Pride as a classic weeper Raging Bull Another Gold Standard in movie making, one of the all time greatest films, let alone sports or boxing Um, some of the worst The Babe Ruth Story What an absolute unmittigating piece of shit this one was. Still the ONLY movie I willfully did not see the end of (i.e. time restrictions, sleep needed, ect) and I still haven't finished. Fear Strikes Out Anthony Perkins as a pyscho (pun intended) ballplayer, just one problem, the guy was completely inept and it showed Everbody's All American Never seen it, but what can you say when a scene that may or may NOT have happened in reality by a supporting actor is the only thing that people remember about this movie (Regan as George Gipp's "Win one for the Gipper" in a movie about the great Notre Dame coach Knute Rockne) Just a start of a list. BTW I think I've uncovered a second "Curse of The Bambino" as not only did Babe Ruth play himself in a silent baseball short "Stealing Home" (he was the main character but it was a fictional setting) but he does himself in one of those "as-only-he-could-do-it" turns in Pride of The Yankees and well, William Bendix couldn't do it, John Goodman didn't do it, it seems no one quite captured Ruth when playing him. Guest cartman Report post Posted October 3, 2002 I thought "Everybody's All American" was that movie starring Dennis Quaid, he played the part of the Gray Ghost, a great college running back who made it pretty well in the pros...good movie in MY book. The DVD is especially cool.

Field of Dreams and Rocky are not biopics. I agree on Raging Bull, however. Great movie.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted October 4, 2002 -Raging Bull -Pride of the Yankees The Babe Ruth Story with John Goodman is the worst. I don't buy a 45 year old guy fatass playing a 20 year old Babe Ruth.

Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted October 6, 2002 61* is one of those few sports movies that you don't have to be a fan of the sport to enjoy. I know several people who hate baseball, but love that movie.

SHUT UP CARTMAN! Sorry couldn't resist. Yeah thats right, only its based on a novel not a real person. Movie I got it confused with was "Knute Rockne: All American" BTW Dennis Quaid does a decent job as Jim Morris in last years "The Rookie" about that HS coach who gives pro ball another try at like 34-35 or whatever his age was.
