Over-rated

What did you guys think of the over-rated chants that Killings was subject to this week ?

Have the crowd cottoned on to the fact that Ron hasn't had a really good match in NWATNA or is this just a taunt because he's a heel ?

It didn't start until his feud with the X division. I thought he had a fine match with Lo Ki this week.

I'd like to think that it's him getting heat, but I think it's because he isn't as good as the X guys, and the crowd is letting him know it.

The crowd can't be chanting that he's overrated when compared to Road Dogg or X-Pac...so I thikn it's because Lynn smoked him.

His match this week would've been fine for a mid-card scrap, which is how it was placed in the card, but as a title match....well, personally I thought it wasn't up to much.

Sure, he's streets ahead of Road Dogg - but you or I would probably look better in the ring than that useless fat fuck. Syxx has been a bit of a surprise, looking a little above average in his ring outings for NWATNA to date.

Prior to the chants, he'd had one match with an X-division guy, so I don't see that being enough to cause the chants.

Apparently the live crowd was down in numbers this week, wonder if that had anything to do with things.

Live crowd was WAY down, two whole seating sections were closed off this week.

As for the chant, I think a couple of smartass smart marks started it, and then it was picked up by the marks and snowballed from there.

Ah, sounds like good reasoning for me.

Something else on in the area to cause a drop in attendance or just a result of two weak back-to-back shows ?

Killings has been in a poor position since winning the title and that's possibly where the chants came from. In comparison to the rest of the roster (with the possible exception of Jeff Jarrett), Killings mic skills blow away everybody else. So you take a look at his ring work and break down the matches. You've basically got a very good worker competing in a poor environment or in the case of Lynn, being outworked and then fans latching onto it.

His match with Shamrock was not good but Shamrock couldn't even pull something decent with Takao Omori so I'd like to lay blame on that one squarely on Shamrock.

His match with Brown was fine if nothing else. In fact he carried the load in that one and that's quite the feat for someone as green as Brown.

The first match with Lynn was very good IMO. Killings role in that match demanded he carry the load and he was great in that role. Lynn pulled his end very well, going big with the juice and knowing when to make the comebacks. No complaints there.

The second Lynn match was far more balanced than it should have been. You also have to account for the stupid Lumberjack stipulations, which can really kill the flow of the match (stupid ending on top of that).

This past week's match with Low Ki wasn't good but in case no one knew, Ki is already working with an injured ankle and the work had to be re-done (note stupid out of ring brawling) to make sure the ankle didn't get messed up.

So like I said, Killings may well be a victim of circumstance. I've found his work to be good - very good and his charisma/persona is top notch. One hopes the fans can recognize he is one of the best all around performers in that fed instead of making stupid overrated chants in the coming future.

He's a heel. Heels get boos and derogatory chants, plain and simple (especially in Tennessee). It's the same reaction Kurt Angle gets.

As for why attendance was down, who knows. There's always something going on in Nashville, but nothing big enough that I heard about it.

No it isn't plain and simple. There's "heel heat" and there's the wrong kind of heat. People chant "you suck" at Angle because they know it annoys his character. People chant "X-Pac Sucks" back in the day because they hate him as a person. Chanting "overrated" isn't part of a gimmick, it's a shot at the wrestler. They're two different things.

Old-time promoters like the Jarretts don't care, though. To lots of people in the wrestling business, heat is heat, period. If a heel is getting heckled he's doing his job right, no matter what the reason.

He was a heel before and got a lot of face heat and Truth chants.

I'd like to say he got the heat because he has been facing the two most populart guys on the roster (Lynn and Lo Ki) but those chants started with Road Dogg and Pac in the ring.

So...I'm at a loss.

I think that crowd is getting more solid in that the same people are there week after week and they have formed solid majority opinions, much like ECW did back in the day. If they see a guy busting their ass week after week, they'll let him know they appreciate it. Vice versa as well. Hell, since I watch the shows every week I'd say too from a wrestling standpoint Killings is overrated at this point. His work has not impressed me since he won the belt. I'd be inclined to think that this is the same reason why Shamrock never got over as champ too, his ringwork blew.

Plus to boot I think the racially charged mic work has gotten old and stale with him where it's not going anywhere. All that talk intially was what got him cheers as a heel, and they probably should have drawn that out further and even turned him full face by the end of it, leading to the title win. But they went more full tilt and fast with it, and this is what happened.

Heat is heat . . . but an over rated chant isn’t exactly the kind of thing a wrestler wants to hear . . . especially if he's the champ.

He's overrated. Look at the title of this forum. He's a mid-card guy, whose a fair worker and who is a decent talker but is given cheap heat things to do like racial angles or attacking nascar drivers in nascar country.

Then Jerry Lynn and Low-Ki rip shit up, and people wonder why is this guy champ.
