Guest Dmann2000 Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 For me It's Gimmie Shelter, one of the most haunting coolest riffs ever
Guest redbaron51 Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 Angie not on their? blasphomey! Paint it Black then
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 I was torn between Paint it Black and Sympathy for the Devil. Ah well. Pleased to meet you, hope you guessed my name.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 I've always been a sucker for "Brown Sugar".
Guest mesepher Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 wow, people like Angie? I think its one of the worst songs ever by a good band. It ranks up there with The Reaper by BOC
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 Gimme Shelter, Paint it Black, or Jumping Jack Flash. Can't really decide.
Guest Dmann2000 Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 Well I'd have put more on there, but there's a limit of 10
Guest Markme123 Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 What is the name of that famous Rolling Stones song? You know the one that they *always* when a show has a piece on them. It's also the first song that they play on the 'Forty Licks' CD commercial.
Guest Sassquatch Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 Where in the Washington Redskins Hell is "Street Fighting Man?" I'm crushed. Anyways, if I had to choose which one of the songs above is my favorite, I would probably have to go with "Paint It Black."
Guest godthedog Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 what? no 'bitch'? no 'sister morphine'? no 'let it bleed'? no 'dead flowers', with one of the funniest verses ever? actually, i think my favorite stones song is 'turd on the run', the 2-and-a-half minute throwaway number from exile on main street. i could listen to that bluesy guitar riff forever. and the 'country honk' version of 'honky tonk women' is waaaaaaaaaaay better than the greatest hits version.
Guest Kibagami Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 Sympathy for the Devil = ratings. S.
Guest godthedog Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 i never understood why so many people love 'sympathy'. it's basically a glorified throwaway pop song with mick jagger trying to be scary. it always seemed to me something that was TRYING to pull off the stones bad-ass attitude, while stuff like 'ventillator blues', 'bitch', 'brown sugar', 'let it bleed', etc., really lived and breathed the bad-ass attitude.
Guest godthedog Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 yes, and 'paint it black'. i could go on & on citing examples. bottom line is that 'sympathy' just doesn't have that bluesy, gritty dirty SOUND that made the stones so great. that sound was really their trademark, and it had the power to make even a sweet love song like 'wild horses' seem grimy & rough. it's what they did best, and when they strayed from it (like with 'sympathy', 'you can't always get what you want', stuff like that) the result always sounded forced to me.
Guest Mad the Swine Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 Gimme Shelter or Satisfaction. For some reason, I'm also a sucker for Shattered.
Guest Incandenza Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 I was torn between "Gimmie Shelter" and "Paint It, Black." I went with the former.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 BOOOO Gimme Shelter WISHES it was Paint it Black
Guest Incandenza Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 Both are great songs, but since "Gimmie Shelter" has one of the greatest choruses in all of rock and fucking roll, it gets the duke.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 That's fine. It doesn't make your selection any more right... but it's fine.
Guest goodhelmet Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 my own peronal favorite is probably 'jigsaw puzzle' or 'you can't always get what you want'. jagger's 'memo from turner' rules the fucking earth as well. but from the poll we'll go with 'ycagwyw'
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 Pleased To Meet You is my fav.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 Ruby Tuesday...victim of the glass celling
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 That's fine. It doesn't make your selection any more right... but it's fine. I love Paint it Black as well, but Gimme Shelter's intro alone not only smokes Paint it Black entirely, but it's probably head and shoulders above just about anything in Rock n Roll. The song fucking rocks. Of course that's just my opinion.
Guest godthedog Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 ruby tuesday...third-most overrated song in the stones' catalog.
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 What is the name of that famous Rolling Stones song? You know the one that they *always* when a show has a piece on them. It's also the first song that they play on the 'Forty Licks' CD commercial. I believe that's 'Start Me Up'.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted October 4, 2002 Report Posted October 4, 2002 Sympathy for the Devil. Beggars Banguet is the best Album.
