Oh my.

See, I KNEW I wasn't the only one who praised this show around here!

As usual, questions, comments and criticism can be directed to me.

And where's Bob Barron to do the "Paging Zack Malibu" gimmick? Guess I beat him this time.

I watched that show from time to time, as I once had the HYOOGE hots for that Jennie Kwan chick.

Actually, I hated the kid Dennis, and was glad when they phased him out.

I didn't really care for Diana Uribe's character either. I mean, I understand the plot device reasoning (Sam had to live somewhere after the Garrisons left) but IMO really didn't serve too much of a purpose other than to better even out the boy-girl ratio.

Yes, but Lorena was the hottest one on the show IMO. I didn't like Kelly Packard much at the time, didn't like Jenny (Matt's sister, from the original season), and didn't like Jenny Kwan (Sorry, Inc.).

Philistine! So many kittens perished because of her.

Never heard of it. What kind of show was it?

Never heard of it?

You've NEVER HEARD OF IT?

Egads man!!!

Seriously, Dreams was the first "follow up" show hot on the heels of Saved By The Bell's success. It was originally about the Garrison family, in particularly Matt and Jenny Garrison, and their friends Tony Wicks, Tiffani Smith, who were a band called the California Dreams. Their wiseguy friend Sylvester "Sly" Winkle was their manager, and always behind some type of scheme. During the second season they introduced Jake Sommers, who was the high school rebel without a cause, and he made his way into the band as a guitarist, and wound up dating Jenny. Jenny wound up leaving the show (storyline wise she left to go to Europe, the episode had Jake and Sly trying to sabotage her audition so she wouldn't be able to go), and Samanta Wu, a foreign exchange student, came along. Sam also joined the band, taking Jenny's spot. By the time the third season rolled around, the show hit its stride, as the whole Garrison family was written out. Jake took over to lead the band, along with Tony, Tiffani, and Sam. Sly's cousin Mark, a musical prodigy, came to live in the area, and after begging and pleading from Sly (who had offended Mark when they were kids), Mark joined the band as well. With the Garrison's gone, Samantha stayed with Lorena Costa, who came from a wealthy family and gave the band a loft to practice in. She also became the romantic interest for both Jake and Sly on the show, ultimately winding up with Sly right through to the last episode.

I think you're thinking of Malibu, CA. In California Dreams Tiff was the blonde and she was a surf bunny.

Yeah, Malibu, CA wasn't as hyped as the other shows. It was basically a "time killer". I've seen it, but never watched it much.

OK, here's a question: IMdb lists Heidi Lenhart (Jenny) as the stepdaughter of Haim Saban (the guy who made Power Rangers a household name). Is there any truth to this?

Not a big deal, just thought I'd see if you had. IMdb is good, but not always reliable, know what I mean?

OK, another question - did Jake ever date someone outside of the main cast? He went from Jenny to Tiff to Lorena and back to Tiff but were there any one shot characters in between?

I'll have to go back and check the few eps I have on that one, too. All I can remember is him dating the main cast. Speaking of the "other girls" on the show, does everyone remember that Nikki Cox played Sly's blind girlfriend, Allison?

Yeah, it was pre-boob job. Did Matt ever get a girl?

On a tangent, I also remember the late, great Christopher Hewitt had a one-off role as the school guidance counsellor. I think that one had Jake pegged as a florist?

Randy-Jo was a recurring character in the first season that Matt longed for/dated.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that the episode with Hewitt was the "careers" episode.

Oh god, i still see them on stage on my nightmares, yet they weren't as cringeworthy as the 'band' they formed in CITY GUYS~%

the lead singer's guitar was the funniest bit, he used to just sort of wave it around without changing his expression, and it was clearly hollow. For some reason.

anyone know if California Dreams still comes on anywhere in syndication?

I live in Canada, if that makes a difference.

A few things:

Bif, I WISH this show was still on. TBS showed it up until 1998 or so, PAX showed it briefly during winter 2000, and now it's gone from the airwaves

Contrary to what some think, all the actors/actresses actually did sing/perform the music. Sure, the songs on the show were lip synched, but everyone on the show was a trained musician/singer. Heck, Jennie Kwan is in a girl group now (Nobody's Angel), Brent Gore has an album out, and Jay Anthony Franke was considering doing one as well last I heard.

Jericholic, that'd be sweet if you scanned that pic.

And for God's sake, stop knocking City Guys!!!

The only reason I know of this show is because my sister went to grammar school with Sly aka Michael Cade aka Michael O'Cello.

He was a jerkoff, BTW.

I loved that show! My favorite "Spinoff" was USA High, though. And Diana Uribe was HOT. Probably one of my top five of all-time HOT ladies.

USA High rocked, but I saw very little of the second season with Excess taking Lazzarini's place. Oddly enough, USA's website still has a page existing for this show.

yknow malibu, i thought that some of the songs, it sounded like them.

anyways, I still can't fin dthat book, but I'll keep going through my stuff.

i agree city guys was pretty cool, its still on even though its original run is over. the best ep was the one with RVD (duh). Pretty weird how the promoter would let an untrained teenager wrestle.

usa high was ok,

Yeah, I'm currently catching up on the City Guys eps I need thanks to the syndicated reruns. I'm still kinda po'd that NBC dropped the "teen" format for nature/educational shows.

It does kinda suck, but I suppose that it is an untapped market considering that channels that should be showing this kinda stuff on Saturday mornings are showing infomercials...

There is actualy a California Dreams CD with the four origianl members of the band doing the vocals.

The one scene in that show that I'll never forget is when they are at the ski lodge and Jake goes to ski in jeans and his jacket and they carry him back half frozen and drop him on the ground.

BTW its a good thing that had the Lorena girl on the show because after Jenny left they needed a really hot girl and she fit the bill.

I have that cassette. Also, you can find quite a few of the "Jake era" songs on Kazaa. As you can imagine, I made a SBTB/Dreams compilation.
