LaParkaYourCar Posted October 5, 2002 Report Posted October 5, 2002 On today's episode of MST3K (Invasion of the giant spiders or something like that) there was some old balding dude with a mustache, lying in bed. When he turned on the light Tom Servo yelled out "Look it's Mean Gene Okerlund!" I laughed so hard and marked out all at once.
Guest Zack Malibu Posted October 5, 2002 Report Posted October 5, 2002 I haven't been taping the Sci-Fi episodes much anymore, since it seems that they're stuck in a cycle of showing the same handful of episodes over and over (I swear Squirm has aired twice since I taped it, and it's going to be on again in 2 weeks or so). Now I check the schedule hoping for Hobgoblins or Soultaker to be shown, and sure enough, Soultaker is going to air on Nov. 16th. But, I go to check the 23rd, and MST3K isn't on the schedule! I though the contract ran out in January?! Is Sci-Fi pulling the plug on it early, or did it get moved to another timeslot? (BTW, the Soultaker episode features an appearance by Joel!)
Guest Ravenbomb Posted October 5, 2002 Report Posted October 5, 2002 all I want is Hobgoblins. Soultaker is only good for the Frank and Joel cameo, but Hobgoblins is awesome the whole episode
Guest Vern Gagne Posted October 5, 2002 Report Posted October 5, 2002 MST3K is made in Minnesota. That's were Mene Gene's from. Like alot of people up here they probably watched Mene Gene when he was in the AWA.

The reruns are being pre-empted for about a month. They'll be back in mid-December. The Sci-Fi channel is running some movies that fit into a theme month of programing to promote some mini-series they're airing.
Guest El Satanico Posted October 5, 2002 Report Posted October 5, 2002 I watched it today as well and yes the Mean Gene was good stuff, but i just love the "Paaaaaaackeeeeers" stuff from that episode. Hobgoblins and Soultaker were both on a few months ago. I actually liked the overall Soultaker episode and not just for the Frank and Joel cameos. Also it was great because it has Maniac Cop himself in it.
Guest Kingpk Posted October 5, 2002 Report Posted October 5, 2002 The rights to most of the movies have expired already, and I guess Sci-Fi doesn't want to bother in trying to renew them. That's why pretty much the first 2 or 3 seasons are never seen anymore (but I got them on tape).
Guest Angle-plex Posted October 5, 2002 Report Posted October 5, 2002 So what happends when MST3K contact with Sci-Fi runs out?
Guest Ravenbomb Posted October 5, 2002 Report Posted October 5, 2002 I quit watching the channel all together
LaParkaYourCar Posted October 5, 2002 Author Report Posted October 5, 2002 Today's episode had The Skipper in it....you can't go wrong with The Skipper. "What? What's that...the professor has made a toaster out of coconuts?" Best quotes from today's episode: "Does this movie hate us?" "Packers!!!! Yay!!! The Packers won the Superbowl!!" "Wow they're really getting into the mob mentality by just mingling around" "Honing in on BUTT...over" I've forgot some of the other ones.
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted October 6, 2002 Report Posted October 6, 2002 I quit watching the channel all together Exactly.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted October 6, 2002 Report Posted October 6, 2002 how long is it until there's an MST3K rip-off? It's been this long without, so I'm betting 3 years and 8 months.
Guest What? Posted October 6, 2002 Report Posted October 6, 2002 LaParka: Was the episode "The Crawling Hand"? If so, I don't really think that episode is very good, but the beginning is hilarious. Crow: "Wait, Alan Hale...isn't he the skipper?" Joel: "Yeah, I think it is..." 5 Seconds later Tom: "Little Buddy!" I mark so big for that line
Guest evenflowDDT Posted October 6, 2002 Report Posted October 6, 2002 how long is it until there's an MST3K rip-off? It's been this long without, so I'm betting 3 years and 8 months. Although there isn't a running commentary (I don't think, I haven't watched it yet), Sci-Fi's Full Moon Fright Night (11PM Saturday nights! I think...) has between-commercial segments that are very similar to the ones on MST3K, or something... I dunno, I really need to watch that show since I'm such a big Full Moon mark, but I already have all the movies on DVD already and was never a big Shatner fan
Guest El Satanico Posted October 6, 2002 Report Posted October 6, 2002 Oh this Shatner hosted thing is on every Saturday? Well, I'm glad to know that now...i can start watching it now. I actually enjoy Shatner on a certian level so i'd probably like it.
LaParkaYourCar Posted October 6, 2002 Author Report Posted October 6, 2002 no it wasn't crawling hand. It was Invasion of the Giant Spiders or something like that. It had the receptionist from Perry Mason in it too.
Guest El Satanico Posted October 6, 2002 Report Posted October 6, 2002 If there hasn't been a MST rip off up to this point i doubt there will ever be one. Well, I'm sure film student's somewhere have done a MST rip off, but there will never be a rip off with national tv.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted October 6, 2002 Report Posted October 6, 2002 oh, not counting the fake MST's with the badly made robots. I saw one with Star Trek 5 where the jokes weren't so bad but the acting was awful. The skits in between the movie were bad, too
Guest MDH257 Posted October 6, 2002 Report Posted October 6, 2002 So what happends when MST3K contact with Sci-Fi runs out? Either Sci-Fi renews the contract or MST3K leaves television forever.
Guest Jericholic82 Posted October 7, 2002 Report Posted October 7, 2002 I have never watched this show religously, but sats ep was funny, with the packers stuff, and also when the big spider was attacking some guy, one of the robots yelled "help a giant puppet is slowly chasing me" man did that movie have some cheesy special effects. and this lady went to bed, and they said "up got to go to bed, got to get up early to drink"
Guest Retro Rob Posted October 8, 2002 Report Posted October 8, 2002 So what happends when MST3K contact with Sci-Fi runs out? Either Sci-Fi renews the contract or MST3K leaves television forever. I wouldn't be surprised if another network picks the show up. Maybe something along the lines of A & E. They air all sorts of weird crap.
LaParkaYourCar Posted October 9, 2002 Author Report Posted October 9, 2002 Best quote from Saturday's episode: "It's befuddlin my dumb cracker mind!"
Guest netslob Posted October 10, 2002 Report Posted October 10, 2002 "Johnny CRAP-pleseed" "Paul (Infected) Bunyan" "Old McDonald had a ciste" "The hills are alive with the stink of that guy, his back-brace is smelly..." "...Black holes, or collapsed stars...like Robert Downy, Jr." "it's not from around here...so let's beat it up!"
