So much for respecting tradition...either the Intercontinental Championship (which is now five or six titles) is getting unified with the WCW Championship. There's no point in unifying all the belts! It's destroying outlets for other non main-eventers to get some gold and look respectable. Think of how Blanchard and Regal legitimized the old Television Title, or how the Honky Tonk Man drew so many people in just wanting to see him finally lose that damn belt. I just think Steph or whoever is doing this has been going too far in cutting out championships, especially ones with respectable lineages like the WCW belt or the IC belt. I really hope they realize what they're doing before No Mercy and keep the titles separate.

 

I hope this wasn't inspired by the assholes who kept saying over and over to get rid of the European Championship, even though it was doing no harm. They took it all too far.

Women's Title

 

Smackdown:

I believe that having two world titles is stupid, and I always will.

 

What I think there should be is a Smackdown Champ Belt, a Raw Champ Belt, and a top level World Belt. And this champ floats.

 

Having two equal top titles as they do now (they're equal in theory, at least) is like baseball having an American League champ and a National league champ, and no World series.

All of this.. the Roster splits,separate titles, Raws Nitros and Smackdowns... All this Foolishness as Judge Joe Brown, would say shall End...Before Royal Rumble.

 

because at Rumble, The Newly Truly UD World Wrestling Entertainment belt will be up for grabs from the rumble. And at Rumble will be Unifcation matches. By this time Vince comes back Bitch Slaps Bischoff out of power. and Bischy becomes nothing more than maybe a Manager of Batista.. (going the route of heyman and Brock) And We get WWE under one roof again.

If the Smackdown tag titles are called the "WWE Tag Titles", then what the hell do Kane and Hurricane hold? The World Tag Team Titles?

the treatment in the past. Back when wrestling was considered popular (late

90's), the Intercontinental Title was always reserved for the next guy in

line for the main event. Now it seems there is no direction at all in

regards to who has the Intercontinental Title. Is there any particular

reason for this trend? I can remember when Stone Cold and The Rock were

feuding over it for months and then Stone Cold just dropped it to go after

the World Title. Then of course The Rock eventually became main event

material. Now besides RVD holding it for a while they seem to give it too

anyone for no particular reason and of course RVD still hasn't got the

chance to actually win the World Title (just job to everyone for the Title).

Why have they abandon this proven formula?

 

The secondary titles have always been worthless, you're just clouded by nostalgia. When Austin was fighting Rock for the IC title, it wasn't about the title, it was about Austin's feud with McMahon. Austin tossed the belt aside because it was essentially meaningless. For most of the 80s, holding that belt was a deathwish to World title hopes, as only midcarders got the belt (Valentine, Santana, Honky Tonk). At best, it was good to draw a decent house at a B-show. I mean, I'll be as sad as anyone to see it go when HHH retires it at No Mercy, but let's face it, it was dead LONG before now.

Aother note: Smackdown has the WWE champion, the WWE Cruiser champion, and the WWE Tag team champions.

 

RAW has the World Heavyweight title, the World tag team titles, and the Women's World title.

 

Notice a trend here. World and tag team then the sideshow belt. Besides if the WWE feels they need more titles, they can always make more. Hell, look at the NWA in the late 80s/early 90s. The JCP controlled a roster about the same with the

 

World heavyweight title

World Tag team titles

US tag team titles

US heavyweight title

World TV title

Western States Heiatage title

World 6 man titles

Lightheavyweight title

National title

UWF television title

UWF Heavyweight title

 

11 titles in the span of 6 years for JPC/WCW.

I don't like the fact that the WWE is getting rid of the Intercontinental Title at all. What I think should happen is at No Mercy, Stephanie says that the Intercontinental Title will become exclusive property of Smackdown, since Bischoff doesn't seem to want it. Then, since RAW would have less titles than Smackdown, Bischoff would bring back the U.S. Title. That would replace the Intercontinental Title. Then, everything would be set for RAW changing over to Nitro.

That's the problem. Wrestling should be about the titles. It gives the wrestlers something to aim for, and makes it so that it's more believable in the fans eyes. If two wrestlers just wrestler over nothing, it's pointless. If they are wrestling over a title, and both wrestlers make it a point that they title is all they care about, it can make the match have that much more emotion.

Well, if they're going to go through with the plan to run 19 PPV's, they're not going to get rid of the split.

 

I, for one, don't want to see the split end even if they *don't* do the 19 PPV's. HHH ruining 1 show is quite enough for me, much less the chance to see Rikishi, Taker, Kane, and Steph on multiple shows.

notice that most feds when they start up ONLY have a World and a tag team title? Why because thats all the belts a fed really needs. Making an IC title is good for house shows but not as a stand alone title. Hell...lets count all people who came IC champs and made it up the hill to be world champs.

 

Pedro was already World champ, so he doesn't count. Plus the fact he was over the hill by this time.

8 people out of the 30 to 40 champs is really small. 20%

 

out of this list:

Savage ONLY won the title to apease him after the Honky hold up.

Hart came champ because someone no showed and Vince said what the hell.

Austin was already above the title when he won it. And basicly gave it away to go to a higher belt.

HHH had the jesus push so it didn't matter what he won before, he was still unover until 2000.

Rocky wasn't ready for the world title until his program with Shamrock and Foley.

Deisel was a in the middle of the jesus push to him winning the world title was going to happen anytime soon.

Steamboat won the title in another fed.

 

I guess you can say HBK is the only one to actully get the title, get over. Be so over that the WWE had no choice but to make him champion. So thats one out of 30 or 40 people.

 

Bottomline: the title is worthless.
