Guest ManKinnd Report post Posted October 6, 2002 I really don't get it with Regal. People still occasionally speak of him flatteringly, and look forward to seeing him wrestle. It always annoyed me, and now Bob Barron has put me over the edge with calling Regal his favorite WWE wrestler and that compilation he reviewed the best tape ever. Why? I've searched high and low, and have come to realize that Regal is has decent matwork and wrestled one phenominal match against Benoit. That's it. Since when do sprinkles of *** matches and one close to ***** match set someone as a great wrestler for life? No matter how you look at it, Regal sucks in the WWE, be it the style change, his laziness, or the incompetence of his opponents. When I liked his matches with Edge I seemed to be the only one on here, but many still turn around and praise Regal after a show. Hall had 2 fantastic ladder matches with HBK, but no one gave a shit about him when he came back, and for the most part his matches were on par with Regal's entertainment wise. My point is, What's the deal with Regal? Is it this one classic match with Benoit that created so many marks for him on here? If not, what is it? I'm dying to know why people love him now, even if he did have good stuff in the past. People understand Flair isn't good anymore, why not with Regal? Guest El Psycho Diablo Report post Posted October 6, 2002 I like Regal. Unlike a lot of other people on the roster, both his ringwork..and mic skills are decent. He's entertaining to listen to, and to watch.
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted October 6, 2002 I think his ringwork is great...but I think if you put him behind the mic more, he can kick ass there. Remember when Regal had to face Hogan. he did a promo sitting behind a desk and just bashing Hulkamania, Hulkamaniacs Hulk Hogan Toys and even the Hulk Hogan Cartoon. Classic Shit right there . Guest HollywoodSpikeJenkins Report post Posted October 6, 2002 Ummm, Regal is one of the best technical wrestlers in the world. In other words, Your A Dumbass.
Guest EricMM Report post Posted October 6, 2002 ooh someone put one of those funny funny pictures, like one that says "SURVEY SAYS!!! You're stupid!" I love those things Anyways, regal is better than most of the roster SPECIFICALLY because he can cut one of the best promos in the COM-PA-NY. Then he can go out and bring it, and that's more than most of these either or guys in the back. Maybe he doesn't have the best look, but dammit, he talks the talk and walks the walk. Guest Big McLargeHuge Report post Posted October 6, 2002 He's probably just venting his frustration at the acclaim Regal gets despite not doing anything. His mic skills are fine. I enjoy watching Regal...anywhere except the ring. Psychology and mat work are fine. I can appreciate that, but if that's the only style this guy is gonna work, well that shit just don't fly with me. Of course, that is just me. His character is beyond awesome. But his ringwork is just plain boring.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted October 6, 2002 The only thing about Regal that sucks is his Music and even that was growing on me even though I probably wont get to hear it for a while.
Guest mickberna Report post Posted October 6, 2002 You can praise Regal's mic work all you want (and I'll be the first to say he's usually great on the stick), but his ringwork leaves a LOT to be desired. Being a master of headlocks and stiff punches doesn't make you a great technical wrestler, and neither does dropping guys on their heads every week with the suplex he is obviously incapable of executing safely. Angle, Benoit, and Hart are (were) great technical wrestlers... Regal is a circus fighter. And while I'm sure he's had some great battles in the past, he's fairly weak compared to most guys these days, and his style is slow, outdated, and dull. It's time for regal to either start hitting the gym and training a lot harder, or hang it up to dry, because the rest of the wrestling world is leaving him in the dust. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted October 6, 2002 WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOOOOOA. Tell me you didn't just say that. First off- Regal has had CLASSICS with Benoit, Flair and The Belfast Bruiser. How does Regal "suck" in the WWE? He is great on the microphone. His matches for the most part are pretty good. Now I'm not gonna call them classics are anything but for the most you get a good show. Regal can work face and heel. Don't think he can work face? This guy read Triple H the riot act once on Smackdown! and got one of his greatest pops ever. I'm a mark for Regal because- 1) He is entertaining- the facial expressions, the Regal wave 2) He looks like he's having fun out there. 3) He is God. While I'm touched something I said "put you over the edge" I have a question for you? Have you seen the actual tape. If you have and you didn't like it that's cool. If you haven't then you really shouldn't be put over the edge by something you've never seen. Regal entertains me the most and is the only reason I am still watching RAW
Guest treble charged Report post Posted October 6, 2002 I just have one question. Wasn't the No Holds Barred folder created for threads just like this? Or, is that only for HHHate threads? Just saying, that's all.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted October 6, 2002 The only thing about Regal that sucks is his Music and even that was growing on me even though I probably wont get to hear it for a while. What?? Regal's music rules!!! Mick- While I don't think Regal is as good a worker as the Smackdown four (Benoit, Rey, Angle, Eddy!~), I think he can still bring it in the ring. He hasn't really had a long match where he could show his stuff. Now I know that's no excuse but a lot of wrestlers are probably handicapped but I only being to work 4 minute matches every week and Regal is probably one of them. But I love all his matches (Except for the Jeff Hardy series) and the day he retires is the day I stop watching RAW. I bought Vengeance just for Regal. Guest Banky Report post Posted October 6, 2002 Regal rules soley because he looks like he is actually beating the shit out of his opponant. His moves are slow, and plodding BUT when he hits them it looks painful. To quote JR, it is an un-orthidoxe style, but is a breathe of fresh air from the regular WWE "style". Guest BrianFierce Report post Posted October 6, 2002 First things first Regal is legit, he grew up fighting at carnivals and in clubs in england. Second of all, he has had some of the best matches wcw ever gave us, his wwe matches havn't been to par, from his younger days, but he can still outwrestle almost everyperson on the roster, people still love him because he is a damn legend when it comes to the matches he has had
Guest Raven_Effect01 Report post Posted October 6, 2002 I find Regal boring. His matches with Jericho(up until the very last match they had against each other in the cage), Benoit(WWE. Yes, their match last year I saw on Raw basically seemed like a WWE style match, when in a normal situation, Benoit would have been allowed to put on a good match with Regal possibly), Raven, RVD, etc. have always turned out to be style clashes and were basically uninteresting to watch. He can be entertaining with his character sometimes though.
Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Report post Posted October 6, 2002 Regal is fantastic on the microphone, and, in my opinion, a joy to watch in the ring. It has been mentioed that some of his suplexes are unsafe, but I can't recall any instance of a wrestler being seriously injured after a match with Regal (at least in the WWF, not sure about WCW), so if the wrestlers are prepared to take a half nelson suplex, or a release German, it all adds to the match. It has also been mentioned about his stiff punches, but Regal rarely punches (prefering forearms and European uppercuts) because closed fist punches are against the rules. This is another reason to like him as he seems to be the only one to pay attention to that rule, and when he does punch, it's two broken rules in one with the use of the knucks! He rarely misses spots. His use of the knee is more varied and entertaining than a certain otHHHer wrestler. People complain about 'limited movesets' and wrestlers being forced to work the 'WWE way', but when someone comes along with a different style, all we hear about is 'clash of styles' and Regal should 'work the WWE way', certain smarks seem to want the moon on a stick! And, Regal was born in the same county as me.
Guest Brian Report post Posted October 6, 2002 My take on Regal: I love the laid back style he brings to the ring. It's such a comfort knowing someone is trying to rise up against the WWE style. His pacing is ackward but once you're used to it, it's fine. But the Regal love comes from his ability. He could brawl with the best of them and take as much shit as he could dish. He could take it to the mat with the best. He could, if necessary, work a thrown back lucha style match. I've seen him do all Japan heavies alot. Check out all his WCW work and come back to me. Guest cabbageboy Report post Posted October 6, 2002 Well, oddly I was digging his WM match with RVD. It was too short to be a classic or anything but it had some cool things in it. Regal killing RVD with that half nelson suplex. The brass knucks finally being countered. Like most people though I love Regal on the mic but I seriously find most of his matches a bore. I even found most of his WCW stuff a crashing bore at the time, hell all he did was stall for 10m and retain the TV title.

Guest Goodear Report post Posted October 6, 2002 First off- Regal has had CLASSICS with Benoit, Flair and The Belfast Bruiser. Correction... he had a classic with Benoit, had some stupid gimmick matches with Flair (Marquis of Queensbury really just didn't work with the judging and ten minute matches), and had good matches with Finley because otherwise Fit would have killed him. He is great on the microphone. Meh, he's overrated. Basically he throws out some British slang and makes faces. He doesn't really do anything to put himself or the feud he is in over. His matches for the most part are pretty good. Now I'm not gonna call them classics are anything but for the most you get a good show. Not recently. It's all been lackluster brawling with those pitiful knees to the head and a really weird looking half-nelson suplex. Gone are the WCW days where he would actually wrestle anybody and even that wasn't what I would call boatloads of fun. Regal can work face and heel. Don't think he can work face? This guy read Triple H the riot act once on Smackdown! and got one of his greatest pops ever. Uh huh. No. First off, if you put together a list of greatest pops ever, I'll promise you that Regal tearing Triple H a new one won't be listed... except by you. His face run lasted all of two weeks anyway, but if you want to call that a success, more power to you. I'm a mark for Regal because- 1) He is entertaining- the facial expressions, the Regal wave 2) He looks like he's having fun out there. 3) He is God. So basically you like him because he waves? Wow. While I'm touched something I said "put you over the edge" I have a question for you? Have you seen the actual tape. If you have and you didn't like it that's cool. I have seen the vast majority of those matches and I didn't. Regal in WCW was basically him grounding a guy for 9 and half minutes, and doing a really badly timed "last second" pin thing. Unless he was wrestling Finlay, Regal was about as dull as dirt. Honestly, seeing Regal wrestle Fit and wrestling anyone else is like night and day.

I loved the Marquis of Queensbuy matches- it was something different and unique at the time and they really hold up well today. Meh, he's overrated. Basically he throws out some British slang and makes faces. He doesn't really do anything to put himself or the feud he is in over. I thought he did a great job putting his feud with Edge over. He cut this amazing promo on Smackdown once in this intense voice promising gloom for Edge. Edge called im a dork pretty much. His British slang works- because it's different. Hack you up with a bloody hachet beats that-uh damn-uh good-uh. Not recently. It's all been lackluster brawling with those pitiful knees to the head and a really weird looking half-nelson suplex. Gone are the WCW days where he would actually wrestle anybody and even that wasn't what I would call boatloads of fun. I love the half nelson suplex and the knees to head look bad ass. Again- he's going out there and doing stuff no one else does. I admit it- he's not as good as he was in WCW but he's just a joy to watch. Uh huh. No. First off, if you put together a list of greatest pops ever, I'll promise you that Regal tearing Triple H a new one won't be listed... except by you. His face run lasted all of two weeks anyway, but if you want to call that a success, more power to you. I said one of HIS greatest pops ever. Not one of the greatest of all time but one of his biggest pops in his career. And he was over as face commisioner- and the fans were starting to get into him around Summerslam when he was screwing over ECW/WCW. So basically you like him because he waves? Wow. I mark for the Regal wave. It's hilarious hearing this guy get booed and how does he responded- with a wave? I also love when he busts out the Regal Wave when he's hacking someone up with a bloody hatchet. I have seen the vast majority of those matches and I didn't. Regal in WCW was basically him grounding a guy for 9 and half minutes, and doing a really badly timed "last second" pin thing. Unless he was wrestling Finlay, Regal was about as dull as dirt. Honestly, seeing Regal wrestle Fit and wrestling anyone else is like night and day Yea- his matches aren't the most exciting thing in the world but I loved the psychology of him grounding an opponent to make sure the time limit ran out. And I did find his matches exciting and I remember every week watching WCWSN and hoping and praying Regal would escape with the belt. I know a lot of people don't like Regal but to me he's always just had this cool aura about him that made me go: Whoa- this dude is like the coolest guy ever.
