Guest Incandenza Report post Posted October 6, 2002 So, I made my first venture into online tape purchasing, and I do so with DVDVR's Phil Schneider. I got my tape the other day--a Low Ki comp. I'm a little over an hour into it, and the VQ and sound range from barely tolerable to extremely fucking shitty (it was so awful, I had to FF through the first two matches). Anyone else deal with this guy? Considering I dropped $20 on this tape, I'm none too happy.
Guest Tim Cooke Report post Posted October 7, 2002 You got FUCKED because you didn't do your homework. Schneider is WELL KNOWN for his crappy quality. When it says 6-9 hrs, i tmeans EP speed which means, shit quality unless they have MASTERS of everything. There are PLENTY of great dealers out there... Guest Incandenza Report post Posted October 7, 2002 When I saw how shitty the VQ was, the first thing that popped in my mind was "I should've done some research." I think I assumed because DVDVR was such great site...well, d'oh!, as Homer Simpson would say. Ah well. Live and learn.
Guest Doyo Report post Posted October 8, 2002 I haven't dealt with Phil personally, but I can tell you this. Any compilation tape you by from anyone is going to have somewhat crappy quality on it. In the world of tape trading, excellent and good quality = as good as you can expect. When someone gets a copy of a copy of a match that was recorded with a handheld camera and then records that match and other matches onto another tape and then dubs that tape for you onto YET another tape - the quality will greatly suffer. I've had some downright unwatchable tapes sent to me and I doubt Phil would have a good reputation like he does if this was the case with his. Some of those may be rare Low Ki matches and that might be just about the best quality you can find them in, especially on a comp. For the best video quality, my advice is to be leary of compilation or best of's and to get straight shows. Try a place like www.highspots.com or even www.rfvideo.com if it is stuff that has been taped by rf, such as ROH.
Guest Doyo Report post Posted October 8, 2002 I just checked... the tape goes in chronological order and those first two matches are from 1999. I doubt you could find better video quality of any Low Ki matches from that year on a six hour comp.
