The Old School Nickelodeon Shows Thread

Earlier today I was thinking about some of the old shows on Nick and I realized something... today's shows suck! I mean back in the day we had Roundhouse, Adventures of Pete and Pete, Who's Afraid of the Dark?, Ren and Stimpy, Salute Your Shorts, (despite its corniness) Hey Dude, and others. Good fuckin shows! And in my opinion Melissa Joan Hart was a lot better on Clarissa Explains it All than Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Why can't Nickelodeon put on shows like this anymore? All That is one of their top shows? Please, it can't hold a candle to You Can't Do That on Television. Anyway, tell me what you guys thought of these and what ya think of Nick today.

Basically, kids have changed, creators have changed, and so what Nickelodeon shows has changed.

However, OUR tastes haven't really changed, hence our perception that what they show now is crap. That being said, however, I totally agree with you. You Can't Do That On Television ruled it...

In today's ultra-PC times, I don't think we'd ever see a return of kiddie entertainment like You Can't Do That On Television. And as far as ruling the fucking earth goes, it doesn't get any better than Pete & Pete.

I want Salute Your Shorts reruns!

Fuck nicktoons!

Man, I spent many an afternoon watching YCDTOT and Turkey TV.

What was that one show with Dave Collier (SP -- the full house guy) -- Out of control?

Doube Dare

Mr. Wizard! Mr. Wizard!

OK, I need to stop before I can't return...

Well Double Dare is on Nick GAS and Ren and Stimpy is on NickToons

Roundhouse, Adventures of Pete and Pete, Who's Afraid of the Dark?, Ren and Stimpy, Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude, Clarissa Explains it All

I hated all of those shows except Ren and Stimpy. Those shows listed there were just as bad as you think current shows are. People always claim that shows from their childhood were superior to the current kids shows because you look back at your childhood through the eyes of a child while looking at the new shows with grown up eyes.

Most of those shows have a comparable current show.

Alot of the old Niick shows that are loved around here were around shortly after i had grown out of that stuff. I think that's why i hate most of the old Nick shows mentioned in these parts.

The era of You Can't Do that On Television, Double Dare and Mr. Wizard is my Nick era.

I don't go by this belief that all new shows are terrible, but yes Nick has it's share of shitty new shows. Old nick had alot of shitty shows as well so don't be blinded by the rose tinted glasses of childhood. The extra retarded old shows like Salute Your Shorts and Hey Dude are just as bad as the retarded new shows like All That.

Yeah, that was "Out of Control" with Dave Coulier.

"You Can't..." RULED~!, as did "Danger Mouse"

"Double Dare" and "Mr. Wizard" were up there, too.

Others that ruled:

"Rocko's Modern Life" - it was too far ahead of its time; Spongebob took a similar premise, modified it and became a huge hit

"Nick Arcade"

The aforementioned "Mr. Wizard", "Salute Your Shorts", "YCDTOT" (except for Alanis, she was DULL), "Adventures of Pete and Pete", "ren and Stimpy" and "Double Dare"

"Legend of the Hidden Temple"

The original "Doug"

"What Would You Do?"

I don't care if the shows sucked. I just wanna watch. Hell, I still watch Power Rangers reruns despite every show being the same. Quality doesn't matter to me. Thundercats had horrible dialogue, but that's not what matters. They're shows from my childhood. I wanna relive that. Big fucking deal.

Most of these shows weren't very good. But couldn't help but watch shows like You can't do that on Television.

I actually had a crush on Alanis when she was on "You Can't..."

Anybody remember "Bananaman"? I believe it came on after "Danger Mouse".

BRING BACK THE ADVENTURES OF PETE AND PETE!

The Theme Song ruled as well.

And where the Fuck are the Salute Your Shorts and Hey Dude re-runs?

Fuck Hey Arnold and Rugrats.

Oh man, I'm the biggest old Nick junkie there is. I recently got in all the Salute episodes, and I'm close to completing my Hey Dude set. Seriously, though, these two shows were great, and I think a similar forumula would work today. They should re-do Hey Dude with a new cast, it wouldn't suck if done right.

Hey, what was the name of that high-school soap-opera like show Nick did? The only thing I remember is that the basketball player had this blonde chick as a girlfriend and he was drinking. God I used to goof on that show...

I get some network called The-N, which plays Pete and Pete reruns, and they're even better than when I first watched the series. I dunno why.

But The-N is pretty much on 24/7 shill mode for the new season of Degrassi, so its rare to find more than one episode a night, where you'll see four Degrassi.

Sigh.

At least they also show Daria.

The show was Fifteen, and the guy was Matt. And speaking of teen shows, remember Welcome Freshmen?

Guest kkktookmybabyaway

Yeah, good ol' Matt. I vaguely remember WF. Of course, nowadays there's near-softcore porn on MTV after dark. Man how times change...

I really enjoyed Salute your shorts as well and can never get enough of Hey Dude. Why oh why I'll never know. A SYS DVD Set would definetly make its way into my collection.

Are you afraid of the dark only a few good eps in my view. The one with the girl in the mirror in the house across the street was actually good.

But the standout was the tale of the pinball wizard where a kid gets stuck in a pinball game. Me and my friend sat there and ridiculed the show the whole way through it was just dreadful.

Bananaman was great! he ran between Danger Mouse and Count Ducula.

They were like Britcoms for kids!

Damn I miss Classic Nick, and If I can recall wasn't Steve Buchemi in one episode of Pete and Pete where he had a RC Car and raced it against the Pete's Dad? Pete and Pete had some wicked storylines.

Oh and for some one who vaguely remembers Welcome Freshman, it was a comedy centered around High School Freshman and a principal who did stand-up comedy ripping into freshman.

Holy crap! I totally forgot about Count Duckula!

Danger Mouse was the best of those 3, though
