They have never gone to a bowl in a season where they had to play current 1A teams. Look at this: http://michigan-football.com/ncaa/f/rutgers.htm Rutgers should get a clue and get out of the Big East. Maybe they should join the MAC or something since they are consistant losers. Maybe they should put Rutgers back in IAA and let them win more often over Colgate, Columbia, Bucknell and all those other schools. Rutgers just doesn't play good football

Hell, I wish there was a Rutgers in the Pac-10 so the conference schedule wouldn't be as hard and the top teams could get a break every now and then.

Not Georgetown. Georgetown's a Patriot League team, and not a very good one at that. St. John's is in the MAAC, with teams like Canisius and Catholic University of America. Villanova is in the Atlantic 10, and that means they play teams like Delaware, Maine, and Richmond. would it be better if Rutgers joined another conference like Conference USA so they can lose to teams like Marshall The problem is travel time. If Rutgers stepped down to the MAC, there wouldn't be enough money to get the entire team to play Western Michigan and Northern Illinois. That's a 12-hour bus ride at least. Maybe they should put Rutgers back in IAA and let them win more often over Colgate, Columbia, Bucknell and all those other schools. Oh please. First, there is no conference they fit in. Logistically, the only conferences that'd work would be the A-10, Ivy, Northeast, and Patriot. Anything else, and you're going to be spending too much time, effort, and money for football games that won't being in a lot of revenue. Now, the Ivy League and Patriot League won't let Rutgers in on general principle; Rutgers gives out scholarships, which eliminates them from Patriot League rules anyway, and Rutgers doesn't exactly have the academic prestige to get into the Ivy (or Patriot, for that matter). The Atlantic-10's a little crowded as it is, with 11 teams, so I don't know if they want to expand. As for the Northeast, well, that's got teams like Stony Brook and Wagner, which are probably waaay too small for alumni to accept. And secondly, who's to say they'd be competitive in I-AA? There are some good football teams. I've seen both Penn and Lehigh this year, and they look like outstanding football teams. I keep hearing things about Maine, and I heard Villanova's pretty good. So there'd be a lot of competition for them, and I think they'd struggle to be at the top of any division they'd play in. Wow, sorry to go all Johnny OneDoubleA on you there. Well, there actually *IS* a Catholic University of America. It's in DC, and a friend of mine pitches there. They're actually DIII, though. They play a lot of I-AA teams (they played LaSalle this weekend in football). But yeah, that does fit Canisius to a T. ya know.. Jesuit schools don't play NCAA football (Marquette, Creighton, St. Louis).. I noticed that We've established Georgetown does. Boston College is Jesuit, and so is Fordham. I think it's more of a cost thing, than it is a Jesuit thing. It's a lot easier to get twelve people to a basketball game than to get 85 to a football game. We have Temple for that as well, thank you very much. I believe Temple is leaving the Big East in the next couple of years for Football but will remain for Basketball. Truthfully, i don't know why Rutgers plays football either. They don't retain any of their top high schoolers as they all defect to more worthy schools, the don't recruit very well. They really should drop the program.

To say that Rutgers doesn't have any history in college football is pushing it a little bit, as they played host to the first college football game in history. That said, I still have no idea why they cannot get themselves to be competitive at all. New Jersey constantly spits out quality high school players, and Rutgers is the only in-state Div I-A school in Jersey. I know that Penn State pretty much owns New Jersey, but I would have figured that the pipeline would have been closed after the last few years of mediocre Nittany LIon football. In fact, I remember watching a Rutgers game on television, and they said the coaching staff of Rutgers was stemming the tide on the recruiting wars in New Jersey (keep in mind this was probably 2000ish, so the wars were pretty much lost by that coaching staff). I think that we should give Rutgers a bit more of a chance to become competitive, because they have nice facilities, a nice enough stadium, and with the right coaching staff they should be able to get the right people in there, too.
