Same here, I would rather see Austin vs. Hogan because Austin is the only superstar who people can compare drawing power to.  Making a movie doesn't qualify someone of being the Greatest Superstar Ever.  Austin and Hogan would make much more sense....

I also would say Austin/Hogan. It would probably happen anyway. The WWF went with Rock/Hogan for the mainstream appeal both guys would get. I also read Austin turned down a feud with Hogan.

I agree with Austin/Hogan.  The match would have the two biggest draws in wrestling history in it.  I think Austin doesn't like Hogan very much because of all the political bullshit from back in the old WCW.  Who knows how they would work together?

I would rather not see any of them, but if I had to choose it would be Flair/Austin.  We were supposed to get it in WCW in 1994, as Austin would be put over as the next big star and Flair would officially pass the torch.  It is still something that would be interesting 8 years later.

It's likely that Austin/Hogan will be the end of the NWO angle and that will be the match that either kills NWO or defeats it...it's more aprros that Austin be the one to end the threat...and use the Mainstream draw of Hogan/Rock...Austin/Flair would be the match between the two greatest workers ever but it's sad they won't be in primes...Then again we thought steamboat and Flair were past their prime in 94 and they put on a **** match.

Austin/Flair would be the best match of legends.  Their is natural psychology for Flair with SCSA wearing two knee braces.  Flair showed me he could still go at RR and with Austin he could get into the **** range.

Of those listed I think that Rock will be bumping like a pinball for Hogan and would get the best match out of him.

Austin-Flair would be the best with the aforementioned wrestlers. I've been waiting for that match for eight friggin years! Hopefully, we'll see it in the next couple of months.

 

As for Hogan's opponent, I'd have to go with Austin simply for the fact that I don't think Vince or Rock can carry him to agood match. Austin can work his ass off to make others look good. Flair-Hogan is done. Damn, did Flair lose every friggin match or what?

They are two of the biggest icons to ever wrestle. Once again, the WWF is doing this for the mainstream attention Rock/Hogan will get.

Character wise Hogan/Rock makes a lot of sense. Hogan has/had his Hulkamaniacs. The Rock has "the people". They both have simple signature moves "people's elbow vs. leg drop of doom". The wwf can promote that as two top faces of all-time because they can split the fans like Hogan/Warrior.

 

As for Austin/Rock it does make sense for Austin to end the NWO by beating Austin since Austin is basically responsible for ending the NWO's run as the top draw in the 90's.

 

Austin/Flair of course has some legendary status, but for some reason it lacks some relevance like the two matches above(not a knock either as the two others are simply on a high plain). It would be the best match up in all the choices though.

 

Mcmahon JUST SUCKS!!! He is not a damn wrestler and I still don't see why people like seeing him in matches(smarks and website gurus pitting him against legends). His claim to fame is battling Austin and it should have ended there. The only other time he should step in the ring is against Bret Hart. However it made sense for him to face Flair at Rumble. For historic reasons because Flair was always his competing world champion which was the opposite of the champion he was promoting. Flair is also the only thing left of the true soul of the NWA and WCW. Mcmahon/Hogan will just suck and has no historical value because in storylines Mcmahon has no bearing on Hogan whatsoever.

Let's take a look at the Rocks SHORT career.

 

Survivor Series 1996.  Debuts on ppv...gets immediate push as a face...soul survivor.

 

Wins IC belt.  Is the most hated man in wrestling...and is a face.

 

Turns heel.  Initially lukewarm response.

 

Finally breaks through as a heel (this is about a year+ into his career)

 

His interactive promos start to draw face pops (Breakdown 98)

 

Wins the WWF title and turns heel (Survivor Series 98)

 

At this point in time Austin is still the focal point of WWF storylines...and the #1 guy. (Rock has not yet carried the company/ball...in fact he trades the title several times with Mankind)

 

WrestleMania 15...Main Events...loses to Austin.

 

Spends rest of year fighting HHH, UnderTaker, Billy Gunn, British Bulldog (Still not #1 guy...never carried the ball)

 

2000 Wins Royal Rumble and assumes the #1 face spot in the company.

 

The problem is that WWF storylines all revolve around the McMahon Helmsly era.  HHH is the top star as the WWF takes a new direction with a heel on top.  (If anything Rock may share top guy spot...but HHH wins the war)

 

Wins WWF title at BAcklash...loses it next month.

 

Wins belt at KOTR in a screwy fashion..defends against Benoit (where he appears to lose...then decision reversed...) then defends against HHH and Angle (The HHH/Steph/Angle storyline is the #1 storyline, as HHH continues to be the top star)  Loses the belt at No Mercy.

 

The return of Steve Austin puts him back in the top spot...with HHH taking #2 as the man who told Rikishi to run him over.  (and his feud with champion Angle)  Rock is a distant 3rd.

 

Rock wins title from Angle at No Way Out...loses it one month later.

 

That was the epitome of a transitional champion.

 

After filming movie...Rock returns for Summerslam...and is given the WCW title.

 

Spends the next several months putting Jericho over...and has a small feud with TEST.

 

Gets into a scrape with Taker...which he avenges as THE LOWEST OF THE TRIPLE MAIN EVENT MATCHES at No Way Out.

 

The next night on Raw he is dubbed one of the two greatest ever.

 

At no time in his career has the Rock had the burden of carrying the WWF on his back (like Hogan in the 80's, Austin in 98, and Flair in the NWA)

 

At no time has Rock carried the ball for the WWF for an extended period of time.

 

One of the 2 biggest Icons?

I said The Rock & Hogan are two OF the biggest icons (Austin is a head of The Rock). Rock has had a short career, but he carried the WWF in 2000. I think we are making a big deal over the word "icon". The WWF is using this for marketing.

McMahon/Helmsly Era

HHH vs. Foley

Feuded with the Rock over the first half

HHH/Angle/Steph

Mastermind of running down Austin

 

That was HHH's year.

As for Rock-Hogan. Rock is not an icon. He is a superstar and you can't deny that.

 

As far as 2000 goes, storylines may have been revolving around HHH but the Rock was THE man. He was in feuds with Benoit and Rikishi and Angle or whoever elevating them. Trips may have been the focal point but noone doubted the fact that it was the Rock's star power that attracted viewers.
