Guest Mes1372 Posted October 8, 2002 Report Posted October 8, 2002 Did the WWWF really have the tournament for the world title and intercontinental title in Rio
Zorin Industries Posted October 8, 2002 Report Posted October 8, 2002 Not for the Intercontinental, and i'm 99% sure that there wasn't one for the World Title either.
Guest Sassquatch Posted October 9, 2002 Report Posted October 9, 2002 No. The tournaments are a running joke in wrestling and never happened.
Guest JHawk Posted October 9, 2002 Report Posted October 9, 2002 The basic idea was that it was hard to get information outside of the home territory, so how do you prove it wrong? The fact that nobody ever said who Pat Patterson beat in the final was probably a clue that they didn't happen. I do remember the WWF showing a clip of Patterson beating Ted DiBiase for the North American Title a few years back and trying to pass that off as the Intercontinental tourney final.
Guest Sassquatch Posted October 9, 2002 Report Posted October 9, 2002 Anyone here remember the shirt that Patterson wore in '98 and '99 that had "First IC champ from Rio De Janeiro" or something like that on it? I got a kick out of seeing that thing. Patterson showing his shirt to the crowd was also funny to see.
Guest cynicalprofit Posted October 9, 2002 Report Posted October 9, 2002 I dont remember it saying RIO on it, its on the best of RAW dvd set, so ill have to watch it again. I believe that was also home of the classic jr quote, "he does alot of backend work for them(bricoes body shop)"
