Guest Matt Young Posted October 9, 2002 Report Posted October 9, 2002 I was elated to hear this news tonight. I would have jumped up and down if not for the fact that I have a sprained ankle and am on crutches for the next week. At least I have my sweet, sweet Vicodin. Anyhoo... here's the news: Travis Barker, drummer for Blink 182, and Tim Armstrong, singer and guitarist for Rancid, have teamed up to form a new band called the Transplants. An album is set to be released on October 22 on Hellcat Records, Armstrong's own label. The music is said to be a mix of punk with reggae, hip-hop and dancehall beats. The album has been recorded in Armstrong's basement and includes guests such as Lars Frederiksen and Matt Freeman of Rancid, Brody Armstrong of the Distillers, AFI's Davey Havok, the Slackers' Vic Ruggiero and Son Doobie of Funkdoobiest. Credit: LAUNCH I am a big fan of Blink and Rancid as well as AFI and the Distillers whose members will be making guest appearances. This CD should be amazing for all punk fans. I know that Blink is actually pop-punk and a lot of people diss them, but Travis is a great drummer and the sound seems like it will be much more like Rancid than Blink, but will apparently also have various other musical elements thrown in as was mentioned. I doubt it will happen, but I really hope this band goes on tour. If the live performances of Blink, Rancid, and AFI that I witnessed are any indication, these guys would blow everyone away in concert. 2 weeks til the CD is released....
Guest Vitamin X Posted October 9, 2002 Report Posted October 9, 2002 Travis Barker, drummer for Blink 182, and Tim Armstrong, singer and guitarist for Rancid, have teamed up to form... ...the crappiest punk band ever!
LaParkaYourCar Posted October 9, 2002 Report Posted October 9, 2002 What the hell? How many side projects are Blink 182 going to have? First Boxcar Racer now this?
Guest saturnmark4life Posted October 9, 2002 Report Posted October 9, 2002 welllllll if you're gonna pick one member of blink, he's the mildly inoffensive one. Rancid and AFI is all good though. Sounds like it'll be more on the rancid side of things, and THANK GOD.
Guest DrainYou42 Posted October 9, 2002 Report Posted October 9, 2002 Jeez, just what I've been waiting for, 2 awful "Punk" bands(And I'm using the term very loosely here) decide to form an even worse Punk band, with members of other horrible Punk bands guest on it. I'll be the first in line to buy that album... Really.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted October 9, 2002 Report Posted October 9, 2002 i doubt i'd ever buy it, but i really don't see why people bash rancid so much. Some of their stuff is poppy (most of the too-long-for-a-punk-record let's go and some of and out come the wolves) but you can't say that of the 2000 release. But then i'm a bass player, so i'm drawn to them.
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted October 10, 2002 Report Posted October 10, 2002 Why do so many people think Rancid sucks? As someone who likes really old-school punk rock, I think Rancid is actually one of the better "new" bands. The fact that they have roots in Operation Ivy immediately give them more punk credibility than most bands. And as much as I detest Blink182, at least the guy that's forming this has the Dag Nasty tattoos. All in all, I'm guessing it will be at least listenable.
Guest Nevermortal Posted October 10, 2002 Report Posted October 10, 2002 Yeegods. Hip Hop, Reggae, and Dancehall? What the fuck is that, No Doubt?
Guest saturnmark4life Posted October 10, 2002 Report Posted October 10, 2002 Yeegods. Hip Hop, Reggae, and Dancehall? What the fuck is that, No Doubt? what's funny is no doubt are actually a better techno band than they were a ska band.
Guest notJames Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 Tim should have stopped after Rancid's second album came out. Better yet, he should have stopped after Op Ivy.
Guest Banky Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 Its punk mixed with reggae, dance hall and hip hop. Before you critisize the electic mix, check out "Life Won't Wait". It is Rancid's 4th and probably best album. Travis Barker is one of the best drummers in the biz, hands down. He'll add some funky beats to some funky punky music, snoogins.

Well rancid (2000) is far better than any other rancid stuff i've heard, but i haven't heard anything from life won't wait. I do think they and NOFX get unfairly put into the same category of millions of shitty bands though. Especially NOFX, who are just one of my favourite bands ever.
Guest Banky Posted October 13, 2002 Report Posted October 13, 2002 Rancid's sound has atleast evolved through the years. NOFX has been busting out the same shit for years - not that I don't like them. Rancid's downfall lies soley in the fact Tim has a bad voice, atleast thats why many people I know say they don't liek the group.
Guest Invader3k Posted October 13, 2002 Report Posted October 13, 2002 Rancid is awesome. I hate when people say "so and so should have quit after a certain point", like it's anyone's business to decide when someone should give up doing what they clearly love.
Guest Mr. Pink Posted October 13, 2002 Report Posted October 13, 2002 I like Rancid, I detest Blink-182 This new "band" will be shit. Anyone who looks forward to it should be shot. Yes....Black Flag DOES kick-ass

That's what i love about the 2000 LP, it's just faster and shoutier and less poppy with the ska stuff.
Guest SuperTonyJaymz Posted October 13, 2002 Report Posted October 13, 2002 Well i like Blink 182 and I like Randcid so
