Best Matches of the 00's (so far)

Recommended Posts

Guest JaKyL25

Since someone else has a 20 best matches of the 90s post, I figured I start a 10 best matches of the 00s (so far), I just don't know if it should be WWF only or WWF/WCW, but my choices are all WWF anyway, so do what you want.

There was some choice Cruiserweight stuff in the dying months of WCW though, not to mention Booker/Jarrett, Storm/Booker, and the historic Flair/Sting match on the final Nitro that I almost want to put on simply because it was so emotional to watch the last match of such a great, if misguided, company.  And for that match to be between the two people who competed in the first WCW World Title match, and who basically WERE WCW incarnate in my eyes, was really great, but I digress.  On with the list!

Chronological Order:

1.) HHH vs. Cactus, Royal Rumble 2000

2.) HHH vs. Jericho, Raw is War April 2000

3.) HHH vs. Rock, Judgment Day 2000

4.) HHH vs. Jericho, Fully Loaded 2000

5.) Benoit vs. Jericho, Summerslam 2000

6.) Benoit vs. Jericho, Royal Rumble 2001

7.) Austin vs. HHH, No Way Out 2001

8.) Austin/HHH vs. Benoit/Jericho, Raw is War May 2001

9.) Austin vs. Benoit, SmackDown! May 2001

10.) Austin vs. Angle, Summerslam 2001

Wow, except for 1 appearance each by Cactus, Rock, and Angle, that list is ALL Austin, HHH, Benoit, & Jericho.  Hmmm...

Honorable Mention:

All the TLCs/Tag Ladder matches

HHH/Cactus, No Way Out 2000

Rock/Austin, WrestleMania XVII

The Angle/Benoit Series (Including the Raw cage match)

Angle/Shane, KotR 2001

RVD/Jericho, Unforgiven 2001

The Rock/Jericho Trilogy (No Mercy, Raw, Vengeance) (This does not include the Rumble 2002 match, which was good but not great)

Royal Rumble 2002 (Match of the Year so far this year IMO.  How sad.)

Uh, I dont want to nit pick or anything, but 2000 is technically in the decade of the 90s.  I know it doesnt make sense, but it is. A decade is defined as a 10 year time period.  Time started at the year 1 instead of starting at the year 0 ( a flaw but still ) So 10 years from 1 including 1 would be 10, not 9.

Example:

The Decade of the 00's 2001-2010

The Decade of the 90s 1991-2000

The Decade of the 80s 1981-1990

and so on and so forth...

So basically your question could be asked by simply looking at any BEST OF 2001 thread/poll/post/site/magazine and tack on the Royal Rumble 2002 match.

I loved the Austin-Benoit SD! match. It was my personla match of the year and remains one of my favorites. And I may get flamed but I also loved the Hell out of the RVD-Jericho Unforgiven match. I know it was spotfest but it actually included, dare I say it, psychology. RVD even sold the injured arm up to and after the frog splash.

Of course I also love the Trips-Foley wars and the HHH-Austin 2/3 falls, the Benoit-Jericho series, and so many more. Up until the last couple of months, it has been a good time to be a Wrestling fan. The storylines may have sucked but the wrestling was rock solid. Now the storylines and the matches are weak.

Well, for a change, I'll supply a little WCW love here.

The finals of the WCW CW Tag Team Title Tournament (Rey & Kidman v Romeo & Skipper) was an outtanding match.

Ditto Chavo v Helms from Sin.

No flmaing from me, either. The Jericho/RVD match at Unforgiven was the first good RVD match I've ever seen. It was also the first match where RVD showed me that he could tone down the flip-flop some and put out a damn good match as I stated in the PPV thread.
