So, this guy has shot 10 people, killed 7. I can assume he's been trained by the military, perhaps even a Vietnam veteran.

Discuss.

Aside from the tragic waste of human lives snuffed out too soon... this guy must be damn good to rack up those kinds of scores.

Serial killing has sunk to a new low in tacky gimmicks.

He's a spree killer, not a serial killer.

i heard he picked one guy off from 1km away, which is damn good.

And I say he is a gulf war veteran.

I was thinking retired cop when I first heard about this, but it's pretty clearly someone with a military background. Gulf vet sounds like a pretty good theory. I think if it was a Vietnam vet, he would've done something like this already.

It's crazy, but I can't help but be intrigued by it. There seems to be no pattern (not yet at least) to his shootings. Some guy just pumping gas, some kid walking into school. It's like a movie.

Military training for sure. I think it might be a while before they catch this guy. I also wouldn't be surprised if maybe he moves on to a different area. If the heat is catching on to him maybe he'll move on to someplace like Philly or Charlotte.

I agree...It's a sick act, but intriguing at the other side, It won't be long before misguided people copycat it in Maryland.

Yea, but they all can't be as patient and as good a sniper as SniperDude.

I agree that it is very intriguing. I have tuned in to the news channels more in the past week since it started. This person is sick, and does need to be stopped. Sniper man is good though, I will give him that. I hope they catch him soon though before things get even worse

It's intriguing but as someone who lives in Montgomerry County, Maryland it's damn scary too. They can't find this guy soon enough...

The Hillside Strangler turned out to be two people. I have to wonder if the person doing this is actually two people working together. The location has to be significant, too, and my hope is this is just the sick work of a fuckhead (or two) and not a precursor to something more sinister.

I picked up a book last year that presented all this evidence that the Son of Sam killings were done by multiple people, as part of a cult ritual done by a cult called "The Process". Apparently, Charles Manson was a member of said cult also.

But anyway...

I think it's 2, a driver and a shooter. And rule out Arab/Islamic militants

everyone. No self-respecting extremist would proclaim themselves God

as did our Tarot Terrorist. It's a thrill seeker, obviously feeling more power

with each victim claimed. It's odd though, I believe all of the victims have

been either white or hispanic, so maybe that is something to keep in mind.

No, it was all the one guy, there was plenty of evidence and his confession.

As for serial killer minds and motivations, look no further than the books of John E. Douglas, who was the FBI's first and foremost analyst and specialist in these matters. This is a man who knows exactly what really happens, and what's Hollywood bullshit.

is that the guy who wrote

"who Fears Monsters" or "Who chases Mosnters"?

some former FBI agent didn't think the killer had to be a sniper.

If this guy stopped like, right now, they would never find him. Of course, knowing when to stop has never been a common trait in serial killers.

I still find this to be more interesting than Iraq or accounting scandals or whatever.

That's what happened with Jack the Ripper. He suddenly stopped. People still don't know who Jack the Ripper was after 113 years.

Actually, they may have cracked the Jack the Ripper case. Don't know his name, but I think he was supposed to be a painter.

Side note: (being ironic because it's actually on topic, kinda...) I barely caught the end of a segment blaiming video game, specifically first person shooters, for the killings. Why? One, they get snipers, and two, most first persons shooters have a "god mode." I mean, come on! Leave the video games alone! Violent games don't make violent people. In fact, the closest thing anyone has come to in that direction is that it is possible that violent people are attracted to violent games. And, quite frankly, if he was turned by the evil video games, than I'd like to think he'd be a little bit more imaginative. Like in the Scream movie. "Movies don't create killers. Movies make killers more creative." Ok, I don't think that's an exact quote, but it get's the point across.

No, the cab driver killed was black as was the 13 year old boy who was shot.

We need a widespread force of fake "targets" strolling around in different parts of the area, places he could likely go. When they see something strange, call the crew and BAM!

It'd be elaborate, but it's a plan.

No, what we need is Jackson from Saving Private Ryan. Remember when he picked off the German sniper that killed Caparzo from up in that tower? Damn.

John Douglas is a self-aggrandising liar and a megalomaniac. His books are paeans to his ego, filled with misinformation and gore and little else. He's not an "authority" on anything. His career was nowhere near as "legendary," "solitary," or "ground-breaking" as he pretends and he's now just another professional media whore. His crappy novelised accounts are sentimental, overblown, poorly written, inaccurate, and sometimes downright fictional, and his "advisory" books frequently rip off, word for word, pamphlets which are freely available from any Bureau field office or police station upon request.

Ressler is a similarly tedious hack and their grotesque, sordid narratives trivialise and exploit the deaths and suffering of real people. If you want an education, go get one instead of wasting your time with garbage like this. On the other hand, if all you want to do is giggle over page-long descriptions of mutilated corpses, and then watch a self-important has-been jack off over the body bag while other people do the work, knock yourself out.

But kindly refrain from spreading his utterly nonsensical claims about being the first or foremost anything in the FBI or any other agency, department, or organisation in the intelligence or law enforcement communities.

As for the sniper, he does not have to be a marksman of any kind. Obviously, nothing is being ruled out, but these crimes are uncomplicated and simplistic; any Mongoloid with the necessary disregard for human life could commit them. They demonstrate no expertise whatsoever which would indicate a former military or law enforcement career.

I think he's probably a vet sniper, mainly because A: He's good and B: Apparantly, in the Gulf or Vietnam war (I forget which war, exactly) some American Snipers actually WOULD leave calling cards, most being either the Ace of Spades (Go Mighty!) or the Death Card.

And someone brought this up on TV - It's possible he planted the card, then waited for someone to pick it up. When they stopped, bang. Just kinda an odd thing.

And I think I posted this all in another thread already. Bah.

Anyone who ever saw Apocalypse Now or read a "true-life" Vietnam book knows that. This guy comes off like a military sniper wannabe more than anything else, maybe some civilian who didn't have the courage and/or the ability to sign up for the real thing, and has now turned psycho and is killing people to prove how "good" they are.

Dammit, I accidentally fed Marney after midnight, and look what happened. LOOK OUT, MR. FUTTERMAN!

I live in Philly. He could be here in an hour. I don't want to get gas, suddenly.

But I feel this guy is someone who thinks he's making a statement. He's trying to say something about the horrors we've committed on Iraq for over a decade, and trying to give us a taste of our own medicine by ending civilian lives in their day to day routines just as we have done to innocents over in the Gulf. This is his protest about our military bullying of Iraq.

Or, maybe he's just a nut who snapped. This is more likely.
