'Dragnet' Catches O'Neill

Alan James Frutkin

OCTOBER 07, 2002 -

Ed O'Neill of Married with Children fame has been cast as Joe Friday in ABC?s remake of Dragnet.

The midseason series is from Law & Order producer Dick Wolf, and Universal Television.

O'Neill replaces Danny Huston, who exited the drama shortly after production on the first episode wrapped Sept. 30. The show?s producers decided to recast the lead role.

O'Neill's last leading role on a series was CBS's failed cop drama Big Apple.

I dunno what to say. I have a feeling that Ed will always be looked upon as Al Bundy, and that will probably cause the remake to get canceled by the end of the season.

Of course the question is, will the new Friday put his hand in his pants and say "hooters"...

"Sgt. Friday, is it really nessessary that you watch the girls at a strip club to 'help prevent crime'?"

but on the plus side, we will now know that Joe Friday scored four touchdowns in one game at Polk High.

why was it necessary to remake Dragnet for a third time. The originial show aired in the 50's for those wondering.

They should just air the original 60's show instead. Im sure that those shows would be funnier than anything thing this new show would produce.

ABC is a bunch of idiots anyway. They put an awesome show (Push Nevada) up against CSI and expect it to draw good ratings, and when it doesnt it gets the big cancelation, along with that other idiotic show That Was Then.
