Why DO you still Watch?

Recommended Posts

Guest The Wicker Man

OK. This question isnt intended to insult or disrespect any 'smarks'. Its just curiosity.

After reading alot of negative comments directed towards the WWF, Why do you still continue to watch it? The normal response to such a question is.. "Im a wrestling fan!" which i suppose is fine. But on the other hand.. Im a big Music fan... but if i dont like a song i wont listen to it. Im a big Movie fan.. but if a film sucks I wont watch it. I love food... but if something doesnt taste right I wont eat it.

So why DO you continue to watch the WWF? Habit? lack of alternative? Blind loyalty? hell is it just Morbid Curiosity.. you know.. the same kind of curiosity that makes you want to have one last sniff of that sour milk before you throw it away.

So again.. not a bash on any of you.. you are all entitled to your opinions and you dont have to justify any of your actions. But if the WWF is as bad as the majority of the internet community makes out... Why do you still watch it?

As a footnote... im not suggesting you should like and go along with everything you see on your TV neither. But Damn.. WWF has had a bashing lately.

I watch because I am a bit of an entertainment masochist, and the lack of an alternative at this point.

I enjoy old school "violent ballet". The WWE is fast confirming that that art is dead in the US on tv. Guess I'll have to watch tapes, lucha, and Japan to get my fix in about 9 months or so. Sucks, but reality often does.

Why?

Lack of alternative is part of it. I was a WCW fan first off.

Now, though..

Booker T, RVD, Lance Storm, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, Eddy Guerrero, and all those guys. *shrugs* If I'm a fan for a particular wrestler, I won't tune out when they're on TV. I just won't.

Why does this question pop up every month or so?

need more RVD, Christian, Jericho, Booker T, Goldust, Regal, Hurricane, D-Lo, Raven, Steven Richards

Less Kane and HHH

please no more fish out of water matches like Big Show in cage or Kane in TLC.

Cause when it's on ITS ON.

I was starting to belive that the WWE was on a VERY slipy slope to nowhere, then SD! came alive.

Edge, benoit, Rey, Angle & Eddie have brightened up my staurday mornings (i'm in the UK) and no amount of RAW boredom will change that.

I would like to say, I LOVE HHH as a heel, and the main problem on RAW is that there is not really anybody who can hang with HHH in the public's perception. Sure, RVD looked like he could beat him, but for the title, INCONCEIVABLE.

A yera ago, when he was HOT, sure. t's like Jericho could have walked off with the title at the phantom change in 2000, but isn't really a credible challenger any more. A upper mid carde face only gets a few chances to break out and in both jericho and RVD's case, they've missed one.

Booker is the great white hope of RAW.

Smarks may complain about the WWE as it is now...but I still watch it because I know it could be a LOT worse.

I survived 1994-97 WWF. I survived the last legs of WCW. And in my opinion, I feel that both of those were a whole HELL of a lot worse than current WWE.

I also watched WrestleManias 9 and 13 and enjoyed them, so there's very little on WWE right now that I WON'T enjoy.

Add to the fact that I hope to become, in the near feature, I ringside commentator, so I need the practice...I still watch, ever faithful.

It's like when your Sports Team is doing crap. You still watch the season and hope they can pull out of the slup. Plus, even though your Team sucks, there is usually a few players you really enjoy watching.

Because, despite much of the crap, there are still guys I find tremendously entertaining. I, too, was more a WCW fan, so I like to follow the guys who came in from there.

Guys I enjoy: Benoit, Eddy, Jericho, Angle, Booker, Helms, O'Haire, Chavo, Rey, Tajiri, Knoble, Shannon Moore, Brock, Kidman, Regal, Chuck & Billy (moreso Chuck), Hugh Morrus, Storm, Stevie.

That's 19 reasons right there...

Two hours I'll enjoy twenty minutes of beats two hours I'll enjoy five minutes of. King of the Hill, Law and Order, That 70s Show, and Smackdown are the only first-run shows hitting that ratio for me right now. When I remember, I'll tape Raw (and usually end up fast-forwarding through three quarters of it), but as long as Smackdown keeps providing matches at or near the quality it has been lately, I'll keep watching - there's enough entertainment to justify the bullshit.

RAW is up against Monday Night Football so I don't watch it. I will watch Smackdown (the repeat, it is up against Survivor) if the spoilers look promising. Basically, if nothing else is on I will watch as you can't lose anything. But I refuse to pay for PPVs when the product is so bad.

I'm probably the only fan that likes the current product. I've thought 2002 was a decent year. Why do I think that, you ask? Well, that's because I always think it could be worse. Also, I always know that eventually, it will get better, which is another reason I watch it. I watch RAW over Smackdown, mainly because of Kane being my favorite superstar. I do tape Smackdown, though, but I haven't watched any that I've taped for a few weeks anyways. To sum it up, no matter how bad the product might seem to some, I'll always be a loyal WWE fan.

I watch for the usual suspects (RVD, Jericho, Angle, Book, Eddy, etc). And I watch because I hope something will finally change regarding the main event scene. Hoping some mid-carders who are more over than supposed main eventers finally get pushed. How foolish I am.

I don't really watch it anymore. I mean, i'm still a huge wrestling fan. In fact, i'm a bigger wrestling fan now, than I ever was over the 10+ years I've been watching. But when I do watch WWE, I watch it for the good wrestlers, like Eddie & Benoit. Plus, I live in the UK where I can't even get NWA.

I watch mostly because I always have, at least for the past decade nonstop. I just wait till stuff doesn't suck.

Guest Smell the ratings!!!

I have the same answer as everyone else, I still watch my favorite wrestlers. Plus, I am a huge proponent of the "Unintentional Comedy Scale". Ever since Raw started, it has been a source of humor. When I heard "You're a muderer-uh" I was howling.

But PPV? pffffffft. I've seen about 6 in 2 years, and those were in bars. I can't pay for that crap.

I only pay any attention to RAW anymore... I tape the shows, and that's why they're ever on my television set. Plus there's no alternative, like others said.

I'd probably quit altogether, if not for:

1) I regret not taping wresting back in the day, so I just do it now to make up for it, and

2) Chris Nowinski.

The only way I'm going to quit watching the WWE is if the product gets even more boring than it is now. Also, if Kane, the Undertaker, RVD, and Jericho get released, that will prompt me to stop watching.

I've always pretty much watched out of habit.

I first really got into WCW in '94, and I loved watching every minute of every show. Fast forward to 1998, and thereafter I watched purely out of habit.

I stuck with WCW until around Jericho's departure to the WWF, hoping it would get better, and of course it never did til the late, dying days.

Then I switched to WWF, and I've honestly never liked the product. Yeah, in 2000, I was big fans of Angle, Jericho and Lita for a while (I hate to admit it), but the top guys bored the shit out of me. I respect Rocky, but even by 2000, his antics were old and lame. HHH & Taker have always made me snore.

However, I kept watching, even throughout that lean stretch in early 2001. Always thinking it will get better, blah blah blah.

Then between No Way Out and WM 2002, I just really hated watching. HHH was on all the fucking time, and it was a guarantee he was going to be champion, so I watched less and less.

Then I watched King of the Ring with some friends, and after watching the boringest match in the history of wrestling, HHH-Taker.. I can't watch, even if I try.

The end. Sorry for long post.

Eddie Guerrero, Lord Steve William Regal, Eddie Guerrero, Ron Simmons, Eddie Guerrero, and Eddie Guerrero.

Those are the reasons why I watch.

You know, I'm still hoping that Vince will get rid of the dead weight (Kane, Brock, taker, HHH-ooh, look the title feuds.) and push the guys who deserve it. But I'm rapidly losing patience.

I watch because they keep having good matches. but its always surrounded by crap. Anything something is good, I say the good. Anytime something is bad, I say as such. bottomline.

I watch just incase it's good. They have half of the former Un-Americans (Storm and Christian), BookDust, Steven Richards, Raven, Tommy Dreamer, Chris Jericho, all who usually entertain me, so there's always the chance that they could have a good show, and if I didn't watch it and I heard reviews saying how awesome that Jericho vs. Booker T main event was or that Raven came back and attacked Tommy Dreamer then cut a five minute promo explaining why he attacked Dreamer and starts a feud with him then I'd hate myself for missing it.
