Hey teams looking for a new Manager

Why do teams have to keep bringing back the same managers everytime. How about hiring somone new. The Angels, Twins, Red Sox, Giants, Dodgers, and Diamondbacks did it. Alan Trammel was just hired as the Tigers manager other teams shold go that route instead of bringing back failures and rejects like Bobby Valentine and Buck Showalter. Give Willie Randolph or the bench coach in Oakland an opportunity.

Buck Showalter has a track record of success. Most of the Yankee stars who came up through the minor league program (Jeter, Pettitte, Rivera, etc.) came up under Showalter's watch. Both teams he managed enjoyed World Series titles soon after he managed. I think he deserves a shot somewhere. I do agree with the sentiment however.

 

Where are the Black managers?

 

I hear a lot of good things about Willie Randolph and Chris Chambliss. Both deserve shots.

Randolph interviewed with Milwaukee or New York, one of those. The commissioner is supposed to be really high on Randolph and wants to see him get a job somewhere, so that will help.

 

Another name: Ken Macha, Oakland bench coach. I've heard he's the top candidate for a few of the jobs.

Actually, MLB does a pretty good job in hiring minority managers. Off the top of my head, Dusty Baker, Don Baylor, Hal McRae, Lloyd McClendon, Jerry Manual, and Philipi Alou have all had tenures as manager. MLB makes teams interview one minority canidate for every managerial opening.

Showalter was hired by the Rangers today. Unless he can pitch three out of every five games, I expect them to still have problems next year. To me, teams who are perenially shitter because of poor management fire their managers to shift blame and divert their own shortcomings and poor decisions onto someone more visible.

The Rangers should fire Showalter right after the season ends. Look what happned with New York and Arizona, they won the World Series the year after Showalter was fired.

 

Personally I'm glad he won't be on ESPN so I guess it doesn't bother me that much.

Baseball isn't nearly as bad as the NFL when it comes to recycling coaches. The Chiefs brought Dick Vermeil out of retirement instead of getting a fresh face. The Bucs were so flustered after they lost Bill Parcells -- who was also retired -- that they gave up money and draft picks to buy someone else's coach instead of getting a new one. And Jim Mora and Marty Schottenheimer have coached 20 different teams between them.

There's a downside to giving somebody a shot.

After all, Charlie fucking Manuel can be your manager for 2 1/2 seasons.
