Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted March 1, 2002 Report Posted March 1, 2002 Fox Plans Celebrity Boxing Thu Feb 28, 4:26 PM ET NEW YORK - Tonya and Amy are getting ready to rumble. The pugilistic divas will face off on "Celebrity Boxing," a Fox special scheduled to air March 13. The network is billing the bout between Tonya Harding (news - web sites) and Amy Fisher as "the battle of the bad girls." Also on the special, former "Brady Bunch" star Barry Williams will be pitted against Danny Bonaduce, once part of TV's "Partridge Family." The network said the fights will be real, each lasting three rounds. Harding gained notoriety when, in January 1994, the figure-skating champ was involved in a bungled plot hatched by her ex-husband to disable her rival Nancy Kerrigan (news - web sites). Kerrigan took the silver medal while Harding, who finished eighth in the Winter Olympics (news - web sites), later pleaded guilty to conspiracy. Fisher made headlines as "the Long Island Lolita" when, as a teen-ager having an affair with auto mechanic Joey Buttafuoco, she shot and wounded his wife in 1992. Fisher served almost seven years in prison. A third celebrity-boxing pairing has yet to be announced, Fox said. Ok. All Im going to say is, they can cancel Futurama and Family Guy, they can leave the 80's show on forever, they can add shows like Andy Richter's in midseason in slots that are doomed to fail even though it will probably be a funny show, but why do we need Celebrity Boxing? I think they could have just gotten the rights to Celebrity Deathmatch and used it instead, at least it would be funny and worth watching.
Guest Kingpk Posted March 1, 2002 Report Posted March 1, 2002 Can't they put this crap on "Toughman Challenge" on FX? FOX is going a bit nutty with this reality tv shit. I mean, Temptation Island sucks, Glutton Bowl was a complete joke, and Boot Camp should never have been concieved. And, on another rant, ABC is putting The Job on hiatus AGAIN! The past 2 episodes have been hilarious.
Guest TUS_02 Posted March 1, 2002 Report Posted March 1, 2002 The Job is one of my favorite night time shows... Leary is golden.
Guest DragonflyKid Posted March 1, 2002 Report Posted March 1, 2002 Fox seems to be in desperation mode, they cancel Futurama and Family guy, X-Files is gone soon, 24 has not met rating expectations, Temptation Island got low ratings compared to it's 1st season, the Simpsons is going downhill creatively so they're throwing stuff like Celebrity Boxing and Glutton Bowl against a wall hoping it will stick.
Guest Tony149 Posted March 2, 2002 Report Posted March 2, 2002 Man, FOX is going down the tubes. Like RollingChop said. FOX is throwing (shit) stuff on the wall hoping it sticks. What's next? Getting two former U.S. Presidents to wrestle in mud?
Guest Some Guy Posted March 2, 2002 Report Posted March 2, 2002 Fox ha 3 shows that I watch regularly, That 70's Show, Undeclared (basically because it's after That 70's), and The Simpsons. All of these stupid Ideas, lets not forget the marry a millionaire show are doomed to fail based on the fact that many can't be made into series. Ad rates come for successful series, not some dumbshit one shot show. Fox needs new writers if this is the best they can come up with. (sounds like the WWF, doesn't?
Guest RetroRob215 Posted March 2, 2002 Report Posted March 2, 2002 If FOX is lucky a lot of the people who have been fans of the X-Files for the last 9 years will tune in for the final 11 episodes. Plus a lot of people (ex-fans) will watch the Duchovny related episodes. If FOX promotes the right shows during the X-Files, ratings may go up a little bit.
Guest Army Eye Posted March 2, 2002 Report Posted March 2, 2002 The matches are a little weird. Why do Tonya Harding and Amy Fisher have beef? Tonya Harding vs. Nancy Kerrigan, or Tonya Harding vs. Jeff Gillooly, now that would be something I'd watch.
Guest areacode212 Posted March 2, 2002 Report Posted March 2, 2002 Well, it's just because they're two celebrity "bad girls". But you're right, I'd rather see Tonya fight someone she has beef with. I would totally cheer for Tonya over Nancy or Gilloolly. But didn't Tonya & Nancy have some kind of confrontation on Fox a few months ago? It wasn't a fight, but a sit-down talk kind of thing. Anyone have details on this?
Guest Shaved Bear Posted March 4, 2002 Report Posted March 4, 2002 i heard the third fight will include none other than the man the myth the legend VANILLA ICE Id actually watch him box Hammer, that would be hilarious
Guest TUS_02 Posted March 4, 2002 Report Posted March 4, 2002 Yeah, its VAnilla Ice vs A MYSTERY OPPENENT!!! My guess is that it'll be that guy who did that "Pop goes the Weasel" song, since they had big beef back in the day... but of course, no one remembers him to begin with...
Guest hardyz1 Posted March 4, 2002 Report Posted March 4, 2002 I was previously on the fence as to whether I was going to watch, but now that Vanilla Ice has been added to the card, it's a no-brainer. Maybe he'll fight Suge Knight? He'd piss his pants and pass out before the fight could start.
Guest Army Eye Posted March 4, 2002 Report Posted March 4, 2002 Vanilla Ice clinched it for me too Hah.. that will be good
Guest areacode212 Posted March 4, 2002 Report Posted March 4, 2002 It seems that Amy Fisher has lost her nerve, since it was reported earlier that she's dropping out of the match! Yeah, she's tough with a gun against some Long Island housewife, but when it comes to facing an Olympic athlete, she's nothing! Oh, she's been replaced with Paula Jones.
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted March 5, 2002 Report Posted March 5, 2002 ...and Boot Camp should never have been concieved I didn't think Boot Camp was that bad. Of course, I'm a little biased since I knew the guy who made it to the finals (and kinda got screwed...)
