Man Dies After Gaming Marathon

They're all such freaks. I've only run into half a dozen in my entire life whom I could stand; the stereotype of pathetic, disturbed, acne-ridden losers is well-earned. That's mostly why I stopped playing a few years ago, too.

Thankfully, though, I was never dumb enough to go to a "con." I hear that's where the COMPLETE wastes of skin gather.

Star Trek/Star Wars convention though are the funnies things on EARTH. I went to a Star Trek one in Las Vegas when I lived there and it was just like in Trekkies.

Just a Note: I like both Star Trek and Star Wars and consider myself a fan but not one of those people who walk around actually TALKING to each other in Klingonese

Let me get this straight, two guys in their late 20's early 30's die due to depravation of the nessecities (sp) of life (ya know, food, hygeine, waste disposal, ect) and another guy (same age range) screws over his life due to his addiction to computer games?

And NO ONE blames their own life conditions? I mean give me a break here, its like some some blaming bars for serving alcohol for crying out loud. Its blaming your local quick stop 7-11 store for your smoking addiction.

Hell yeah games are addictive but have you heard of women suing sports leagues because of their divorces? "My hubby didn't pay enough attention because he watched too much sports" No your husband stopped talking due to various reasons, same with why guys (not KIDS mind you, we are talking responsible ADULTS) close themselves up to the rest of the world and rather live a life of playing video games (socially outcasted, mental problem, fear of socializing, ect)

Geez wiz, I mean video games affecting how teens act/play sports/play I can buy. I can even buy video games being a culprit in a rise in obesity in our youths and less and less American youths playing sports and recreational activities but blaming it for the sole reason for someone's death/and or suicide? Give me a break!

Now, back to Pac-Man...

What kinda throws me off is the simple fact that they said that he was a loner who played DnD. Now, I'll admit that my gaming experience has been, sadly, a bit on the low side, but most the people I have met who play DnD tend to have a pretty tight knit group going, and that doesn't sound too much, nerds or not, like a loner to me.

And as a side note, I've been able to see and actually play a few MMRPGs, like everquest, and for the most part, they seem to be unbelievably tedious. The only way one of my friends could get any interest at all in everquest (which he pre paid quite a bit for, that silly boy) was to buy huge quantitys of beer and muffins and throw parties. If that's enough to divert your attention 12 hours a day, then you don't have much to live for, do you?

BTW: Since we're on the topic of RPG's, anyone here play Baldur's Gate? I'm currently playing the first game, and sometimes it's like crack, or what I would assume the need for this illegal substance to be...

I've never met a girl that actually played DnD, let alone several. The creepiest part was when the jesus freak got involved.

Baldur's Gate? Been there. BG, BGII, both expansions..Icewind Dale, and IWD 2 right now.

You want to know a CRPG that's really addicting? Morrowind.

The sheer ammount of things you can do is almost mind numbing.

I'm glad the guy died. Good for him and the human race.

Did anyone see the episode of Conan O'Brien where Triumph went to the line outside a theater where Episode II was premiering? Damn, that was funny.

Final Fantasy games are the only acceptable RPGs. Everything else is too nerdy.

Actually I would say the opposite, Final Fantasy has become the epitome of fanboy RPGs that people play for the name value (and it has been this way ever since it came out on the PS).

One thing I've never understood about the D&D "loner" image: you have to have a decent-sized group of people to play with, and so how can you really be that much of a loner? I'd say the guys that play online RPGs, hang in chat rooms, play MUDs, etc. are more of the loner type.

As for this story itself, it's a total load of shit and makes me ashamed to be someone who likes RPGs, Magic, D&D, et al. These kinds of fucks are what cause people to stereotype us the way they do. The lawsuits are bullshit too, I agree with the person that says they can buy the obesity argument, but causing a persons death? Fuck that.

My guess would be the loner group -- 5/6 kids in school that hang by themselves and talk about whose mage could fry the other's with a Level 3 Fireball spell...

Throw in wrestling, the Simpsons and politics and that WAS high school for me.

All my h.s. was backyard basketball and football. What was funny was whenever my friends and I would beat players from the aforementioned teams. So sad...
