Guest Brian Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 According to the Torch, wrestlers backstage have been talking about how management might have tried to forc Brock into not cooperating and shoot during their match before he left. Interesting. From the Torch Newsletter.
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 The Match Austin left over, probably.
Guest RedJed Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 I'm lost, are you sure you don't mean Hardcore Holly instead of Austin?
Guest TheAnvil Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 According to the Torch, wrestlers backstage have been talking about how management might have tried to forc Brock into not cooperating and shoot during their match before he left. Interesting. From the Torch Newsletter. I didn't think that Austin/Brock ever went down.. I thought that Austin left before the match happened. This doesn't make any sense.. So, people backstage are talking about other people backstage telling Brock to not cooperate with Austin in a match that didn't happen? So, Austin got mad because he thought that Brock wouldn't be easy to work with, thus he left? Sounds flaky to me. Maybe I'm misunderstanding..
Guest Zero_Cool Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 Woah, woah woah...are they trynig to say that were going to pull a mixture of the Montreal incident and that thing that happened in Ready to Rumble to Jimmy King? I wonder if Austin found out about something like that...
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 Where the Hell is Brian to explain this better?
Guest RedJed Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 Maybe Vince feared Austin would pull something, and felt like he would have to double cross him, but the deal was that Austin agreed to do the job I thought, but then just left instead later? I don't get it.
Guest bob_barron Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 The Austin v. Brock match was supposed to be a KOTR qualifer with Eddy!~ as special guest ref
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 Austin wasn't cooperating with anyone in the ring for a while there, so I wouldn't doubt it.
Guest Zero_Cool Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 ..so Austin would've been screwed over by Eddy and cost a spot in the tournament. Uhm, why in the world would Austin be put in the KOTR? Did they already announce the Title Shot stipulation for the tourney?
Guest bob_barron Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 No- Vince announced the title shot the week after Austin left
Guest creativename Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 Maybe Vince feared Austin would pull something, and felt like he would have to double cross him, but the deal was that Austin agreed to do the job I thought, but then just left instead later? I don't get it. I don't think Austin ever agreed to do the job; he just didn't contact WWE at all before he left. Remember that Vince said Austin was just kind of like "whatever" when they talked the night before, and then on Monday he was already at the airport by the time they got in touch with him. I'm assuming that they were trying to get Lesnar to shoot on Austin in case he did show up, but didn't cooperate. It makes sense; Austin was clearly pissed-off and not willing to cooperate fully, so I think it was smart of them to realize Austin might try to pull a screw-job. They were thus preparing Lesnar to pull a pre-emptive screw-job, just in case. A rookie like Lesnar might also not catch on, and get pinned 1-2-3 before he knew it. That would obviously have ruined management's big plans for the guy.

That would obviously have ruined management's big plans for the guy. If Eddy was going to be refereeing that, he would have made sure Austin didn't get the pin, angle or no, since Eddy screwing Austin over would have furthered the feud they were building to. So that can't possibly be it.
Guest Brian Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 The way it was stated, they wanted Brock to shoot on Austin and not cooperate.
Guest HartFan86 Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 The way it was stated, they wanted Brock to shoot on Austin and not cooperate. Wow...maybe he heard from Lanza or someone and told him to get out while he could.
Guest godthedog Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 The way it was stated, they wanted Brock to shoot on Austin and not cooperate. i don't buy this, it makes no sense. if you're a rookie and you shoot on & not cooperate with a guy like steve austin, he's going to get incredibly pissed. it is also going to instantly sour your reputation in the locker room and a lot of guys will be pissed about working with you or afraid to work with you. also, shooting & not cooperating with someone as brittle as steve austin is extremely dangerous. vince would not want to cripple his own top star.
Guest Brian Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 It makes sense to me since they were trying to oust Austin the entire time. Brock can either go with the boss, and stay employed, or go with what the boys say. And take into consideration than Lesnar has only been in the business a limited amount of time. Shooting, if done properly, is more towards hurting (and humiliating) than injuring.
Guest The Hamburglar Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 Although it doesn't make sense, the image of Brock no-selling multiple Stunners before wrapping up Austin like a pretzel is priceless. But even with McMahon flat-out ordering him, I don't see that Lesnar would have ever disrespected a guy with Austin's stature in such a way.
Guest Olympic Slam Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 There's one thing that needs to be factored into the rumored Brock vs. Austin match. What about the personal assistant stipulation Flair lost the previous week? I'm assuming that was important and would have been a part of the show in whcih Austin left. Anyone know anything about what they were planning with that angle and if it would have been a part of this rumored match?
Guest Super Pissed Smark Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 While, since Vince has proven himself over the last few years to be a complete fucking idiot, this could very well be true, wouldn't it expose the WWE to a potentially huge lawsuit if Lesnar accidentally re-injured Austin's delicate neck while engaging in this sort of unprofessional conduct at the behest of his employer? Any lawyers here?
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 I beleive it. It's obvious from the booking of Austin from No Way Out on that they had NO plans form him to be in their Kliq filled main events anymore. HHH was handed all the power and the ball that Austin supposedly took home. Nash had arrived, and unlike Austin, Vince liked Nash. Don't ask me why Vince would like someone who nearly killed his business over someone who made him a billion dollars...but that's Vince for you. Most telling sign: Austin isn't back yet. If the WWE didn't want Austin gone...he'd be at RAW on Monday. Guaranteed.
Guest Banky Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 Not that I entirely believe the story, but this would explain why Austin did leave the way he did. He could have been tipped off when he came to the building, then left after hearing the news. He has gone through far more shit with the nWo then he would have just jobbing to Lesnar. Moreover, Austin seemed to be heading for some great matches with Eddie and Benoit. If Vince did want Brock to shoot on Austin, it sure would answer a few questions.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 It doesn't make sense any other way. 1. He got the Eddy program that he wanted. 2. Eddy was the ref for the match, so he wouldn't have jobbed clean anyway. 3. Brock stood to gain NOTHING from the match as all the heat would be put on Austin/Eddy. 4. Austin had NO PROBLEM selling for Brock and ONLY Brock in the Booker T lumberjack match like...a couple of weeks before. 5. Austin's side has always been that he thought they were going to screw him. I buy it all.
Rob E Dangerously Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 So, would Brock be able to give Austin the F-5 with Austin's neck?
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 I'd think so. the F5 doesn't connect with any body part I've seen anyway. It's just a front bump on a lame finisher.
Guest snowfan Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 I'd think so. the F5 doesn't connect with any body part I've seen anyway. It's just a front bump on a lame finisher. He needs the SSP.... with various setups.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 11, 2002 Report Posted October 11, 2002 the F5 is like the spear. The only thing I can see it's good for is taking your opponent down. Neither is a credible "keep your opponent down for a 3 count" move IMO. If he used it to set up for a SSP then good for him. But this is off topic...so let's get back to the Austin topic.

If Vince had told Brock to shoot on Austin and Austin's neck was screwed and Austin could prove it WWE would have a new owner. Austin.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted October 12, 2002 Report Posted October 12, 2002 I'm not much for the particularly crazy rumors, but I will say this. Austin getting pissed and leaving over getting whipped around the ring by a jacked up freak (and in that situation, basically a McMahon goon) makes a lot more sense than Austin getting pissed and leaving over having to job.
