Guest HellSpawn Report post Posted October 11, 2002 Hiya! Im talking about the "new" style on oufits on several superheroes, like X-men's leather or semi-leather style or catwoman's. Maybe Im "too old age", but I prefer spandex on comics. I mean, I prefer 100 times brown/orange or yellow/blue Wolverine than S&M Logan, or either the Gold/Blue or Green outfit on Jean than that bodysuit she is wearing. I like Emma Frost's new one, but, she looks better on the former one, and in fact she is one example of failfure... if you say this new age of costumes is to made them more "real", her outfit is totally unreal. Oh, well, lets hear what's on your minds.
Guest BA_Baracus Report post Posted October 12, 2002 What...do you mean in movies? I think the X-men would have looked silly in the movie if they had been all decked out in bright yellow, orange, green and so on. As for in actual comics...I don't mind newer "cooler" costumes, as long as they still retain some of their original look. Ie...the re-design shouldn't render the character unrecognizable. I mean, Batman has undergone several, but he's still obviously Batman. They haven't just reduced him to a guy in a leather jacket or something...
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted October 12, 2002 Some redesigns are obviously horrible. Like the pre-Heroes Reborn Avengers. Costumes that were instantly recognizable were all scrapped in favor for ones that were much uglier, gaudier and more ridiculous looking, for no real reason. The ones you mentioned are all pretty good. Catwoman (whose title rocks and one you should all be buying) has a good outfit because it reflects the newfound scrappy, "avenger of the East End" nature of the character. It would be hard to picture Selina doing what she does now in her old tight purple spandex look. I like the new X-Men outfits too. The leather outfits give them all a uniform look, but with a modern touch. If I were on a super-team and I had to wear a uniform, I'd want to wear a cool leather jacket too. It's not like they're unrecognizable (like the Avengers I mentioned before). You can still tell which one Cyclops is, at a glance.

Guest cynicalprofit Report post Posted October 15, 2002 Changing the costumes is a cheap ploy to get you to think its something new when its still the same old shit in a new wrapper, see X-Men when they split into all those new books after pro. X died. It was so bad that they went back to how it was after 4 issues cause it was not getting over. It was planned to be a whole new universe. Nope, same shit, new costumes, yeah it impressed me when I was 14, but now a days, i look at that stuff and just go, dear god who would buy this crap. Good costumes need to be simple yet compeling, like superman, 3 colors, red and blue dominate, tad of yellow to break it up. It was so good that its still going like what 60 years later, and all attempts to change it FAILED. That is a good cosutme. Wolverine's blue and yellow was good, but it didnt match his violent nature. I liked the yellow brown combo because it gave off a dirty vibe, but they still havent found him a good look yet. I recommend a Dark red dark blue. Little red the dark blue being dominte. Maybe lines of red where seems would be. I can picture that working and giving off the deadly vibe. While i dig the new x-mens yellow and black look to coencide(sp) with the more "mature"(and i use that very lightly pg, is NOT mature and or real) attitude, its to contempory and I give it 2 years tops before they change them again. Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted October 15, 2002 Just a little tidbit to show you all how bad Marvel is when it comes to pandering to the mainstream: When the Spider-Man movie was being planned out, the big issue was what kind of costume he should wear. Should it be his original one with some minor details? Or should he wear an entirely new costume. The costume designers along with Alex Ross came up with some sketches for possible costumes that Spidey could wear in the movie. Many people believed that Spidey was going to wear the Ross sketched costume in the movie when word leaked out that Marvel was going to revamp the comic book costume version in order to draw some of the people who saw the Spidey movie. Fans all over were outraged at this idea and the studio quickly went back and designed the costume so that it would fit his comic book version. We could have ended up with another X-Men debacle in regards to the costumes they wore in their movie being given to them in the comic book as well. The current X-Men outfits make me think of them as Matrix-lite. The costumes do not give off a sense of individuality amongst the members like they had before the costume change. Costumes are what defines the heroes/villains and everyone wearing leather and glasses is just played out and forced down the fans throats to accept the changes. Guest areacode212 Report post Posted October 16, 2002 It's his way of paying tribute to those who were killed during the "Our Worlds at War" storyline.

I liked the change in the movie itself, simply because bright blue and yellow spandex looks damn goofy in real life. There's no way to make it look cool (pro wrestling has proved this innumerable times). Spiderman and Superman had to keep their original costumes because that's all they ever wore, but the X-Men change their costumes at the drop of a hat anyway. They were better of to give them something more realistic. But yeah, changing their costumes in the comics to reflect that was really fucking stupid.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted October 22, 2002 I have no problems with the X-Men costumes except for Emma Frost's. They are a team and they have uniforms, simple as that.
Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted October 22, 2002 I always thought that Vamperilla's costume was over the top. That honor now goes to Emma who I am still trying to figure out she keeps that damn thing on. It's like a couple of kleenex were placed on her tits along with a Victoria's Secret diaper. Vampy always had the excuse that she could have used tit glue (ala Jennifer Lopez) to hold her "costume" up when she was in battle. But Emma's tissue costume takes the cake.
