Guest MrRant Report post Posted October 12, 2002 I was thinking of a way for a company like Warner Brothers to make a shitload of money and make me happy at the same time. Picture this for a DVD set release. 1. I think they should release a DVD Set containing all of say the Merry Melodies from a given year say like 1940 or whatever. It would probably be only like a 5 disc set and I would be on that shit in a heartbeat. 2. Releasing a Bugs Bunny set, Daffy Duck set etc. 3. Since they do this on Cartoon Network... release a set of just like Tex Avery cartoons or Chuck Jones cartoons. Even a best of I would be happy with. I lean to #1 the most as it would kick ass to have yearly collections. Your thoughts?
Guest Karnage Report post Posted October 12, 2002 Aren't some of those cartoons from back then violent and politically incorrect? If they are, then some of them probably will be edited or won't be released on DVD.
Guest MrRant Report post Posted October 12, 2002 They show a good amount of stuff on Cartoon Network that could be considered anti-PC.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted October 12, 2002 I know the last Cartoon network did their June Bugs marathon that there were like six cartoons they didn't show due to them being un-PC. But all you have to do is slap a warning label on them and say this is for "historical accuracy" or some shit and your covered.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted October 12, 2002 I think all 3 would be great ideas. I like 1 and 2 the best. I'd like to see box sets for each major star and yearly boxsets for all the lesser stars.
Guest cynicalprofit Report post Posted October 12, 2002 somewhere on the stileproject you can download bugs bunny nips the nips, which was like the no 1, oh no you cant show that one, cartoon. While I can see how its offensive, its not as bad as it was made out to be, i mean we were at war, and i dont see how it was any worse then south parks portraly of Osma, not saying hes a good guy or anything like that, just saying, in times of war, we poke fun at our enemies to make ourself feel stronger. I think there was also a video collection recalled because nips the nips and a few others were on it.

Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted October 12, 2002 There was this old Popeye cartoon where he was a Pilgrim and he called the American Indian an Ingine. That was awhile since I've seen that and doubt I ever will again.

I remember reading back when this occurred that Cartoon Network was planning on making a "mini-documentary" on racism in those and other cartoons. I know they did at least one episode of "Toon Heads" about war-time cartoons (which most of these un-PC cartoons were), was that it, or did they just abandon the concept? Also, this is going to sound insensitive, since he was a racist character, but I miss the Aborigine guy who'd throw the boomerang and scream "UNGA BUNGA BUNGA!" I haven't seen his cartoons since I was real little and they played old Warner Bros. cartoons on Nickeolodeon.
