ChrisMWaters Posted October 12, 2002 Report Posted October 12, 2002 Hmm...you know, I had a weird thought: Brock Lesnar is the WWE's attempt to re-capture the power that the late Yokozuna had when he was at the top of the business. Let's take a look: Early-mid 90's: Mr. Fuji brings in Yokozuna, who starts destroying Superstars with great hatred. 2002: Paul Heyman brings in Brock Lesnar, who starts destroying Superstars with great hatred. 1990's: Yokozuna, early on in his career with WWF, gets a shot at the WWF title against a popular star and wins. 2002: Brock Lesnar, early on in his career with WWE, gets a shot at the WWE title against a popular star and wins. 1990's: Yokozuna (second title reign) has a long running title reign, which doesn't end until WrestleMania 10. 2002: Rumors are that Lesnar will have a long running title reign that's not gonna end until WrestleMania 19. 1990's: Yokozuna beats Hulk Hogan 2002: Brock Lesnar beats Hulk Hogan Do you see what I mean. So in a way, I think that Brock Lesnar is a thinner, in MUCH better shape representation of what Yokozuna was in 1993-94. But again...that's just my opinion
Guest BA_Baracus Posted October 12, 2002 Report Posted October 12, 2002 Uhhh... ...yeah. Brock's a big heel monster, so was Yokuzuna. They've done the exact same push they've done with Brock a million times in the past and they'll do it a million times in the future.
Guest cabbageboy Posted October 12, 2002 Report Posted October 12, 2002 Yeah and it never really works all that well either. Brock is leagues better than Yoko in my view, I've at least seen him in some halfway decent matches. I NEVER saw a Yokozuna match that I would call remotely decent.
Guest Anglesault Posted October 12, 2002 Report Posted October 12, 2002 Yoko was shitty, Brock is a useless piece of shit. Yep, I'd say so.
Guest Zero_Cool Posted October 12, 2002 Report Posted October 12, 2002 But hey, at least Yoko had a leg drop that looked credible enough to put a guy out. The difference is that I don't see Brock dropping dead of heart failure at age 33...barring major steroid abuse, if he even uses them.
Guest The Czech Republic Posted October 12, 2002 Report Posted October 12, 2002 33? He died at 33?? Jesus, I thought he was 39 or 40...
Guest Anglesault Posted October 12, 2002 Report Posted October 12, 2002 Well, he had to be around there, because was the youngest ever WWF champ...Oh My God.
Guest Zero_Cool Posted October 12, 2002 Report Posted October 12, 2002 I could've sworn he was like thirty-three. Any historians out there know for sure?
Guest Anglesault Posted October 12, 2002 Report Posted October 12, 2002 He was 26 when he won it in 93, and he died in 2000, so, yeah, about there.
Guest Trivia247 Posted October 12, 2002 Report Posted October 12, 2002 Yoko was the Pinical of the SUPER heavyweight. After Yoko, the 500 Pound plus wrestlers became unadvisable and made people Like Mark Henry and Big Show slim down. They say Big Show is 500, but he could be 450 for all we know. But hell When Brock goes what will he leave in his wake? They will drop the Overly Roid up Muscle Mass look?
Guest RepoMan Posted October 12, 2002 Report Posted October 12, 2002 I think Yoko was way more over than Brock is now, but I think Brock as the potential to be a good worker is stop making him use a power moveset and let him bust out the shooting star.
Guest godthedog Posted October 12, 2002 Report Posted October 12, 2002 brock has a great physique and a hint of athletic skill. he's also got a better moveset and looks more like someone who would WIN a match than yoko zuna.
Guest AndrewTS Posted October 12, 2002 Report Posted October 12, 2002 Remember also that Yoko was a rest-hold loving sloth... Brock has more mobility, but...the BEAR HUG?! He also has tended to bore people with rest holds. However, imagine if Vince puts his foot down with HHH, and turfs him out of the company with a job at KOTR 2003, after Brock no-sells the Pedigree. Many would be happy...AS would have mixed feelings I'd imagine.
Guest Trivia247 Posted October 13, 2002 Report Posted October 13, 2002 Though its always impressive to watch a 700 Pounder do something like a Superkick
ChrisMWaters Posted October 13, 2002 Author Report Posted October 13, 2002 Though its always impressive to watch a 700 Pounder do something like a Superkick You know what would have been REALLY funny. If Yoko was still around and in WWE right now...him doing a Spinaroonie
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted October 13, 2002 Report Posted October 13, 2002 Big Show is every bit of 500 I'm sure. I look at him from WCW and look at him now and just cry. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted October 14, 2002 Report Posted October 14, 2002 Yoko was the Pinical of the SUPER heavyweight. Ooh you motherfucker!! P-I-N-N-A-C-L-E
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted October 14, 2002 Report Posted October 14, 2002 I always thought Brock was Vince's way of trying to recreate Sid.
Guest Midnight Express83 Posted October 14, 2002 Report Posted October 14, 2002 Brock is WWE trying to remake their own Vader, big heel monster who is ok on the mic, but is better with a mouth piece.
Guest AndrewTS Posted October 14, 2002 Report Posted October 14, 2002 Brock is WWE trying to remake their own Vader, big heel monster who is ok on the mic, but is better with a mouth piece. I'd prefer them recreate the "**** matches" part, even if he has to wrestle X worker a million times.
ChrisMWaters Posted October 14, 2002 Author Report Posted October 14, 2002 Hmm...interesting thought...Lesnar taking time off from WWE...going to Japan to train with Vader... Think that would improve his skills any?
Guest Brian Posted October 14, 2002 Report Posted October 14, 2002 Why wouldn't it? All he really needs is some work with good workers like Angle had the benefit of.
Guest Anglesault Posted October 14, 2002 Report Posted October 14, 2002 Why wouldn't it? All he really needs is some work with good workers like Angle had the benefit of. I still don't like comparing Brock to early Angle. Even before Jericho and Benoit, Angle never had anything that approaches Lesnar/Cena, lesnar/test, Lesnar/RVD(KotR) or Lesnar/Hardy
Guest Brian Posted October 14, 2002 Report Posted October 14, 2002 Brock also didn't have a year of working dark matches under his belt. Brock was rushed, plain and simple, but that's in the past.
Guest Anglesault Posted October 14, 2002 Report Posted October 14, 2002 Hmm...interesting thought...Lesnar taking time off from WWE...going to Japan to train with Vader... Think that would improve his skills any? Isn't Vader in jail?
ChrisMWaters Posted October 14, 2002 Author Report Posted October 14, 2002 Hmm...interesting thought...Lesnar taking time off from WWE...going to Japan to train with Vader... Think that would improve his skills any? Isn't Vader in jail? Not last I heard. Last I heard he was a top Japanese champion. Course...that was a while back.
Guest Anglesault Posted October 14, 2002 Report Posted October 14, 2002 I thought he was DWI in Denver
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted October 15, 2002 Report Posted October 15, 2002 Brock is WWE trying to remake their own Vader, big heel monster who is ok on the mic, but is better with a mouth piece. Except what they're making is their own Rick Rudo. Paul E and some dude carrying a worthless world title belt on him.
