Kawada vs. Mutoh 2/24

Recommended Posts

Zach at Puroresu Power is raving over the Kawada vs. Mutoh match from 2/24, saying it was better than anything this year on the planet, and gave it ****1/2.

Supposedly Mutoh wasn't lazy this time and Kawada really layed in a beating.  But still, I have my doubts after seeing their first match, which I thought was one of the most overrated matches ever.  I hate Mutoh's work, so I doubt I'll be wasting my time on this one.

give the man some props.  Wrestling for a good 15, nearly 20 years.  Reinvented himself, rebirth, and created a exciting new character again and is still putting on matches that you will never see on US tv.  To be able to do all that and keep people talking about, wouldn't that say maybe he's no quite as lazy as everyone likes to dog him?  I'm not saying he's god, but the man deserves a little more respect than that.  He's done an awful lot for being lazy.

Sorry, I don't like his work.  I kept an open mind and picked up the matches that were pimped to death last year, and they were nothing special to me.

People who think that guy deserved Wrestler of the Year last year are only kidding themselves.  He's the worst TC champ in history, and his title reign was an embarrassment to those titles built by Jumbo and Misawa.  I'm not going to respect him being given the titles just because the owner is a big mark for him.

Kobashi has been wrestling 15 years also, is in worse shape physically than Mutoh, but he still busts his ass a lot harder no matter what shape he's in.  Those are the types of wrestlers I respect, guys who give it their all, in every match.

Man...I understand your point but isn't Kobashi just kind of a bad example considering that he is possibly being forced into retirement and will have to live with cronic pain for the rest of his life?

Looking back, I wish that Kobashi took the time off for surgery back in 98 when he needed it the to begin with. No job or form of entertainment is worth sacrificing your health, even wrestling.

I know wrestling is a dangerous profession and *no one* comes out of it completely unscathed. But have a heart or at least some common sense. It's no different from the ECW vampires/mutants that demanded people be put through tables in every damn match. I'd just assume let Kobashi take it easy so that he is healthy enough to actually deliver great matches when they're actually meaningful. No sense in going bonkers at every House Show and undercard tag match like he did. Some people dogged Misawa and Kawada for phoning it during 'umimportant' matches but both are in far better shape now than Kobashi.

In all truth, I can't wait to see Kawada/Mutoh II and I didn't even like their first match. Just my fandom of Kawada is enough for me to want to see. How much I'll actually like it remains to be seen

It's just silly to have opinions on matches you haven't even seen yet.

Ditto. C'mon now, it's Toshiaki Kawada main eventing Budokan Hall in All Japan's biggest show in years...and he got the straps. Comatose Keiji or no me want tape.

I admire his courage and his desire to give the fans his all.  There's nothing wrong with wanting to do the very best every night.  I understand that he is paying for it now, but this is what he wanted to do and I respect him for that.

I could have sworn I just saw jdw post almost the exact same thing.  Anyways, yeah, I agree.  But again, the man wanted to continue wrestling and it's his choice.

I have no control over what these wrestlers do, but I can think anyway I please.  It's their sacrifice.  And if I want to enjoy watching them work hard, that's my business.  Your statement is hyprocritical.  I mean, you enjoy watching Akira Hokuto's matches, right?  She has had a myriad of injuries throughout her career, and I never once saw you post that Hokuto should stop wrestling NOW, or risk further injury.  I never saw you complain that the Asuka-Hotta "UFC" match shouldn't have occurred due to the injury risk.  You loved the brutal Chain Match with Nakano and Kandori, that was seriously dangerous.....it's......their.......choice.

Fine.  You're a fan of Kawada, I'm a fan of Kobashi.  I can criticize Kawada continuing to work the match after he broke his arm on 1/22/99, or coming back so soon to wrestle after his serious eye injury, but I'm not going to.  Leave it at that.

Fool me once, shame on me.  Fool me twice, shame on you.  I'm not being fooled twice.  I'd rather plunk down some change on Toyota matches any day.
