It's that time of year

I just saw a TV ad where the candidates (I wasn't paying attention as to who they were) said that their opponents supported BIG corporations. Then in another soundbite they said that they also supported LARGE corporations.

How come nobody sticks up for the little corporations, damnit?

Anyway, any interesting political ads in anyone's neck of the woods?...

See my post in the top thread for my comments about the Rendell/Fisher ads, which are hilarious.

The Democrats in this state are flat out liars. They say Republicans are for a plan that would force people to put Social Security into the stock market, that's a flat out lie.

It's too bad that alot of old people are idiots and believe this crap.

I channel surf during commercials but have come across Bill Simon and Grey Davis ads which run nonstop. Apparently Simon can't be trusted because he has had many shady business deals including ripping the U.S. post office out of 11 million dollars. Davis can't be trusted because he has sold out California many times and will continue to do so.

It's the negative campaigning that brings down the amount of people who vote, it's like your only option is to pick the lesser of two evils.

I don't trust Gray Davis or Bill Simon. I hope there are some quality 3rd party candidates on the ballot.

The attacking ads don't bother me as much as the ads where the candidate toots their own horn. If I have to see another Gray Davis ad where he's shown shaking hands with every person in the "racial rainbow" I swear I'll puke. His ads average the use of the word "family" like 10 times in 30 seconds.

In my district in Maryland, our congresswoman is a Republican named Connie Morella. Now, this is a liberal district, and she's a liberal Republican who votes independent of the party line. I never understood why she was a Republican, since if she was a Democrat she'd get a lot more support, and would actually be given something important to do in congress. Anyway, her add against Democrat Chris Van Hollen talks about how he supports tax cuts for the rich, and when part of the state general assembly caused a budget deficit and sent large sums of money to various organizations like a curling club. Then the commercial ends, "with his record, you'd think THIS guy was the Republican!" Surreal. What a strange district, where the Republican acts like a Democrat and accuses her Democratic opponent of acting like a Republican...

Isn't there a women in Maryland attacking her opponent who is against gun control? I guess the guy got an A from the NRA while the woman got an F and now the Guy is mad because he feels she is exploiting all the panic the sniper is causing with ads attacking his position on gun control.

To his credit, the judge through out the guilty verdict and pinned blame on the business partner (who has done MANY shady business dealings, including drug distribution IIRC), so Simon is legally innocent of these charges.

Simon's problem is that people think he can't be trusted. Davis' problem is that people KNOW he can't be trusted. Peter Camejo (Green party)'s problem is that nobody will take him seriously. Well, the SF Chronicle lists his takes on the issues with Davis and Simon, but he was barred from the only debate, as Davis refused to particpate if Camejo was even in the audience.

EDIT LOL at the "fighting for WORKING families" bit. Because we all know that working families have SO many enemies.

sort of, that's the race for the governor. Katheleen Kennedy Townson is the Democrat running (she has been Lt. Gvnr.) against Republican senator Bob Ehrlich. Ehrlich has made a big issue of his campaign since the beginning more deregulation of guns in Maryland, while Towson has ran adds attacking his pro-gun stance, of course this whole sniper situation is just a coincidence. These viewpoints and adds had already been out there. Ehrlich is just pissed now, cuz he knows he's screwed beyond belief running on a pro-gun platform, in an already liberal state, near DC in wake of the sniper attacks.

I read about an ad in a NY congress race linking Streisand and Saddam, in the Carolyn McCarthy race.

That makes me think... if Streisand and Saddam had a child, it'd be the most evil person ever.

Anyways, I want the 'anti-hero' candidate. The candidate who "fights against working families", "Fights to put Seniors in homes" and "Supports massive tax increases to pay for his travels." Honesty is fun, esp. when it is a fish out of water. :D

We have one of those in San Fran. His real name is Willie Brown, but we just call him The Mayor.

I saw some campaign ads in my state (Kentucky), between the contested Senate race in the country, Mitch McConnell® vs. Lois Combs Weinberg(D). I really have to laugh my tail off at some of it. For the record, Jim Bunning was going to be challenged by our illustrious Governor Paul Patton, until he... *sniffsniff* betrayed the trust of our state and people *sniffsniff* for which he's immensely sorry. And Jim Bunning turned cartwheels.

Anyway, McConnell has said that the buyout for Kentucky tobacco farmers simply can't go through Congress right now, and even if it could, it'd do jack since there's not enough money to fund the project like there was when the buyout was proposed. Weinburg has stated that she WILL push it through and McConnell is "backing out". To top it off, there was this wonderful attack ad tonight that basically said "Lois Weinburg: She does everything she campaigns against."

Sorry, I'm a Republican...

Been rather quiet here in New jersey, since the Torricelli incident, not enough time to dig up any dirt on the candidates i guess.

That's because the Supreme Court let the Dems in NJ get away with illegally putting Laughtenberg's name on the ballot. Chances are good that NJ will elect Laughtenberg and within 6 months he'll retire and the gov't will appoint a younger democrat who they wanted to turn the entire time but wanted a more established person.

Funny how I don't see Big Media howling about that incident, but when the Fla. fiasco took place there were screams of "the election was handed to Dubya."

Now I know a Senate race isn't the same as a Pres. race, but with Congress being so evenly divided, every seat counts. I wonder if extremists like Johnny Alter are going to throw a fit over the activist actions of the NJ Supreme Court.

These are times I fully realize why I'm not a registered Dem...
