Guest NoCalMike Posted October 16, 2002 Report Posted October 16, 2002 A few times throughout the movie, (mostly when he is high) Harry starts to day dream about walking down that white bridge with Marion in the Red dress standing at the end, and you see a jet ski ride by........Is there an official meaning to this particular dilusion, or is it open to the viewer's opinion??? I was trying to think about it the other day and the only thing I could think of was that the Jet Ski could represent life going by so fast, but I am not sure about everything else. I know later in the movie when he gets the same daydream, he falls off the edge of the bridge, so then the meaning of it may change a little........thoughts?

Me, I think it could have some Freudiian meaning, like Harry's mom wore the red dress and now he's imagining Marion wearing it. I'd have to watch the movie again to be sure, and it's one of those movies that you have to be in a particular mood to watch.

Posted October 19, 2002 Report Posted October 19, 2002 *godthedog ceases to exist* I haven't seen it in quite a while, but near the beggining, Harry tells Marion some Grand Plan about spending summers at a pier or something that's nearby. My Memento like memory may be wrong, but I think that's what it's referring to. I am also famous for mixing movies together, so if that reminded you of something else, I am totally wrong.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted October 19, 2002 Report Posted October 19, 2002 There's no father figures in that movie. So the Freudian interpretation might not be too far off. The only family relationships in the whole thing are mother-son. Marion has her parents, but they're never shown, and pretty much meant to be distant.
