Another Jericho interview

Recommended Posts

Guest bcu1979

There's another Jericho interview up at 1popup.

http://www.1wrestling.com/columns/proweekl...&articleid=8561

Some of the usual stuff : plug Fozzy, the internet is negative, loves working with Rock and Hogan, trashing Larry Zybysco, etc. He also implies that the contract he just signed was a good one.

But there were a couple interesting comments. And this is the first time I can remember anyone asking Jericho directly about Triple H. Here's a couple quotes:

"Q: Talk about your relationship with Triple H? Is his reputation warranted, or blown out of proportion?

Chris: Over the years we have had a lot of history in the ring, and outside of the ring obviously, and there definitely has been a mutual respect developed on a professional level. Whether it is unjust or bad, the point is the guy is a very good performer in the ring. Of course he is going to have a lot of heat, because he is dating the boss' daughter. Whether he is using that to his advantage or not, I am not sure. On a professional level, there is definitely a respect that has grown over the last three or four years, because of all we have been through with each other. Both, at peace and at war. You know, he is going to continue to do what he does and he has a lot of people that probably disagree with his methods because of dating Stephanie. Whatever, you know? It's part of life. Sometimes people are attracted to each other and there is nothing anybody can do about it. Whether people respect that or don't respect it, it doesn't effect me."

""Q: How unified is the WWE locker room today? Are reports of problems over blown?

Chris: Well, I think that the brand extension threw a lot of people for a loop. A lot of guys lost their traveling partners, their workout partners, and a lot of the potential match combinations were split in two. I understand their reasoning for it, and hopefully it will work out in the long run. At the start I did not really appreciate the brand extension, because it took a lot of guys that I had great match chemistry with and split them up for no apparent reason. Hopefully, in the long run it will all work out. I think that's what caused a few problems in the ranks, because a lot of people just did not know what was going on. A lot of people did not know where they stood, and where the company stood. There was not a lot of communication revolving around that. I think in the long run, hopefully it will work out for the best and create a lot more rivalries and storylines that people could get into."

He pretty much validates all the newsletter/internet reports about heat between himself and Triple H. And while he doesn't say anything that would generate heat, he certainly doesn't go out of his way to defend Triple H against charges of playing politics.

Jericho pretty much talks his way around the second question. The guy asked him about locker room morale and teamwork and he's talking about match chemistry and traveling partners.

Yawn...what a wuss.

Seriously, HHH screws him for years and he just smiles and takes it...whatever.

Damn it, I'm getting very sick of listening to Jericho try to be so positive and think his treatment in WWE has actually been good and then not even admit that HHH has been politicking with Jericho's career in WWE for the past few years now.

Jericho's treament in WWE has been good. He has gone from the cruiserweight champion in WCW to the first ever Undisputed Champion in WWF. How can you say that is bad?

I'm not trying to defend HHH's actions here, I don't think even HHH could do that, but if I was a wrestler, I'd be quite happy to have had the career that Chris Jericho has had.

He's been in the spotlight on world TV for years and has consistantly won championships, Cruiserweight, Tag, Intercontinental, and, of course, Undisputed Champion.

I'm a Jericho fan and I feel he is being buried, but perhaps he remembers his days as an indy fed wrestler who was just hopeful of a chance to be on TV, hence his positivity.

Or perhaps he's being told what to say.

Because he's forced to go on his knees and call HHH queen.

...well, figuratively, but sometimes I wonder if HHH wants him to do that LITERALLY as well

Getting depushed from main-event status thanks to HHH time and time again and having to job to John Cena cleanly on PPV is GOOD treatment?

I think Jericho is just a very humble person. Then again, if that was the way he is, why did he tee-off on the 'net and call us all jerk-offs?

I guess Jericho figures that as long he can support his family the best he can, he's happy in his current role. Perhaps he's just the real locker-room leader who gets a point across, but doesn't all out bash his own company.

Just as long as he gets his paycheck every pay period, I'm sure everything is peachy-keen to him. Where else is he gonna go?

You do have a point considering the Russo booking's been keeping NWA-TNA from having a chance to compete with WWE as evidenced by tonight, though Jericho should at least stop taking the politics from HHH that he knows that have held him down for the past few years in WWE lightly and speak up to management about it/talk in an interview about how he hates how he's been held down by HHH's politics in WWE from ever letting him become a full-fledged main-eventer....oh wait, WWE and HHH might get Jericho demoted to Heat if he did that, shit.

He's making 6 digits a year for not having a real job. He's a worldwide celebrity, with a gorgeous wife. I would think that means more than constantly jobbing to an asskisser in a scripted sport.

not having a real job??? does this somehow imply that professional wrestling is EASIER than a "real job"?

Notice he never said whether it was blown out of proportion or not like was asked of him.

Yeah he has a job doing what he likes, but how much is his career going to be worth on the track the WWE has been taking him since the build up to Wrestlemania?

You guys are hilarious. Jericho is a guy who was absolutely, truly held down, but it happened in WCW, not WWF! You think he is upset over his current situation (first ever undisputed champ, main evented Wrestlemania and several other PPVs, a base salary in the high six figures, etc) when he was never allowed to go anywhere near the top of the card in WCW? A little perspective, please.

When it is your dream job, yes, I would say it is easier than 'real job.'

Every interview I've ever read of Jericho where they've asked about his start, he's always said, "I really wanted to be a professional wrestler." Or something to that effect.

It's like asking guys who truly love being a baseball or football player, "Do you consider what you do a job?"

And they'll likely say, "No. I play a game I loved as a kid and they pay me alot of money to do it."

Somehow, I doubt Jericho is the kind of guy who wakes up in the morning and says, "Damn it, I have to go in to work and wrestle on TV today. I wish I'd studied to be a CPA."

If I remember right he was making six figures in WCW too.

Yeah he was held down in WCW but his future still looked bright since he was one of their brightest stars. Now his future doesn't hold very much at all cause he's been made to look so low.

I don't think his future is in jeopardy. His standing with the fans is pretty consistent. His entrance always gets a pop. He's one of the more recognizable wrestlers in the company. He's consistently on PPVs (the noticable exception being Backlash after losing the Undisputed Title to HHH at WM). I think it's a safe bet that his future is looking better than average.

And hey, at least he's not wandering the midcard tagging with Tommy Dreamer...

;)

Jericho is quite an enigma. He's had one of the most decorated careers in the history of the business yet he's done it in way that has made him look bad. You can point out the gold he's held but then look at the fact that he doesn't have a single win on his record against one of his biggest rivals. You can look at his athleticism in the ring but then the argument goes straight to sloppiness.

These things just make for an unending loop of arguments about how great his career as actually been.
