College Football for 10/19

Recommended Posts

Guest Blackston

I was right in the middle of writing the weekly wrapup up, when all hell broke loose a couple days ago. I don't feel like writing it all out again, so here are my picks:

Notre Dame over Air Force by 10

Georgia Tech over Maryland by 3

Virginia Tech over Rutgers by 49

Ohio State over Wisconsin by 8

Iowa State over Oklahoma by 1

Florida over Auburn by 10

Washington over USC by 3

I do. I do not get to see much in the way of Big XII games, but I have seen both of these teams play, at least once. Outside of the Texas game, I have not been all that impressed by the Sooners this year... Their offense has been misfiring a bit all season (except for the Longhorn game), and their defense has played downright ordinary at times. I would also say that right now, Senaca Wallace and the Cyclones are playing the best football in the Big XII, bar none. It should be a good game, though, probably the best game in the nation this weekend.

Don't we all. That way, nobody has to listen to Notre Dame fans talk about how great their team is. Actually, that's not true - I don't mind the Notre Dame fans that know their shit. It's the Notre Dame fans that don't know anything about football that I want to shut up. It's the Notre Dame fans that can sit there, with a straight face, and tell me that Carlisle Holliday should win the Heisman this year that I want to shut up. It's the Notre Dame fans that think they're going to stroll into Colorado Springs and beat the shit out of Air Force, when they haven't strolled into anywhere and beaten the shit out of anyone, that I want to shut up.

Mini-rant over. No wait ... NOW it's over.

Nobody says that. You have to be kidding. Holiday is a joke. Like I said in last week's thread, he makes Danny Wuerffel's arm look like a cannon. He makes me long for Kevin McDougal. His backup, Dillingham, isn't too hot either. I can't remember who the third stringer is, but he can't be worse than the first two.

Arnaz Battle is their best player anyway. Sometimes I wish he would play QB again, but who would he have to throw to? Maybe Holiday; he did make that great diving catch a couple weeks ago. Nah, just keep handing it off to Grant and Powers-Neal. Too bad Julius Jones was ruled academically ineligible.

Hopefully with Willingham's success more top high schoolers will come to Notre Dame and make things right with college football.

I don't have a prediction on the game, but I do predict my blood pressure to increase by leaps and bounds during the game.

Don't you live in Pennsylvania, land of uninformed Notre Dame fans, who only root for the team not because they're football fans, but because their grandmother's last name is McDonald and their nickname is the "Fighting Irish"?

That's basically why *I* hate Notre Dame.

I think you're going with your heart on this one. You're believing in the Seneca Wallace love-fest the media is feeding you. Owen Field will be loud and rabid, and ISU will get rattled. They haven't played a true road game all year (vs. Iowa was still in their home state and they had a lot of fans there, and their fans outnumbered FSU's fans at Arrowhead 3 to 1). Seneca Wallace is good, but Iowa State is overrated. They are a nice, top 15, Holiday Bowl bound team. But don't think they'll beat the Sooners in Norman.

I guess that Tech pick is out the window. The Turps beat the hell out of them last night. Georgia Tech looked horrible.

Now I hate Aurburn and Florida, but Aurburn will probably bet the Gators by a touchdown.

I actually don't know any other Notre Dame fans. Penn State fandom surrounds me.

But I agree with you about stupid fans. They make people like me look bad.

For the record, I've been a Notre Dame fan since 1989-ish, when Rocket Ismail was kicking ass. I was 7 at the time.

Ah, the Ismails, pride of Wilkes-Barre. I got to see his brother Qadry play a high school basketball playoff game against my alma mater. Bob Sura was on that team too. Boy, did my high school get smoked.

um... yeah. I would like to announce that I was very, very, very wrong about Oklahoma-Iowa State, and Georgia Tech-Maryland. Thank you for your time.

Virginia Tech only beat Rutgers by 14. They should go down in the polls if Ohio St. beats Wisconsin easily.

After watching the Tide kick the everloving shit out of Ole Miss and Eli Manning, I can now say that I feel better after the UGA game 2 weeks ago.

For a team on probation, the Tide play like there's something to be winning for. Same for Cal (who beat my team UCLA today) and Kentucky. Major props to Coaches Dennis Franchione, Jeff Tedford and Guy Morriss for getting their guys up to play even when there's no reward at the end of the season for it.

Speaking to the Pac-10, they're officially eliminated from putting a team in the national championship unless a bunch of teams falter. For a team who's home advantage is considered one of the best in the Pac-10, Oregon loses some big games at home - to Stanford last year and to Arizona State this year. Damn, Andrew Walter to Shaun McDonald could be one of the best QB-to-reciever combo's in the country. They torched Stanford and now Oregon, ASU could be a surprise in the making in the Pac-10 race.

ISU got torched. A few days ago I listed Seneca Wallace as my top Heisman contender...not anymore unless he can put up a huge game against Texas.

Was watching Nebraska/Oklahoma State...both goalposts came down after OSU's victory...great win for Oklahoma State...also did anyone see the pass Grossman threw to beat Auburn? He was hit as he threw but lead Taylor Jacobs just enough to get the touchdown...great play.

I do believe that the GMAC bowl has the first pick when it comes to MAC teams, so maybe you Falcon fans should be planning a trip to beautiful Shreveport, Louisiana. Wait... That's right... No. I believe that the Bowling Green squad can look forward to spending the holidays with their familys again, under the glow of a spectacular one-loss season. Unfortunately, BGSU has to play a revenge-minded Toledo team at the Glass Bowl for the MAC West Championship, and the right to play in the MAC Championship game. The Rockets are going to roll all over those bastards.

Hey a win is a win. Nice to see a MAC team not named Marshall getting some rub.

Official: #7 Notre Dame 21, #15 Air Force 14

Air Force was lucky to lose by only seven...Notre Dame blew them away with their running game - Ryan Grant scored twice and Holliday scored once. Turnovers kept Air Force in it...a fumble by Holliday was returned for a score and a kickoff return set up the other one. Air Force couldn't run their option on offense and couldn't stop Ryan Grant and Arnaz Battle on defense, but they hung in the whole game.

We will beat TOLEDO!!!!!!!!

I think it's awesome that they are ranked.

It's nice to look in the paper and see a small program like BGSU ranked 23, and see programs like Florida and Colorado at 24 and 25.

Plus...BGSU usually isn't very good.

Tell me about it. As a student at Toledo, I've seen some really fucking good football over the last couple of years, yet the national media is hesitant to give Toledo any attention. The MAC is not too bad of a football conference, sure it has its' shitty teams, but every conference has its fair share of those. I'm really hoping that BGSU manages to get to the rivalry game undefeated, and Toledo shows up to the game undefeated in the MAC. If that happens, then the media would be sort of forced to give it some sort of coverage... I'm still sort of excited about UT knocking off Central Florida tonight. I wasn't expecting that outcome at all, as I thought that UCF would be good enough to run roughshod over Toledo, especially in Florida.

BTW, bps21,

You'd best enjoy watching BGSU being good this year, as I don't think that Bowling Green coach, Urban Meyer, is going to stick around at BG for another year. I hate to see it go down like that, as Toledo has lost a tremondous coach in Gary Pinkel recently. I suppose it is true that money makes the world go round.

I can't watch BG football as it is.

I moved back to Buffalo and now I can just watch the scores.

Happy for them anyway...it's not a school you go to and think you'll be proud of your football team.

Notre Dame "upset" Air Force.

There's something seriously wrong with that. Notre Dame beating Air Force should not be an upset they have more talent and size and Notre Dame probably didn't recruit anyone that ended up at Air Force.

Damn good win for Notre Dame. This time it didn't come down to the "Luck of the Irish." They just plan shut down the triple option. And the offense was actually effective.

All of Holiday's completions were to Arnaz Battle. Heh.
