Guest kane3212321 Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 Moulin Rouge Donnie Darko The Day the Earth Stood Still The Third Man
Guest Marshall Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 Moulin Rouge and Donnie Darko shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath. Except when I just did it then. But that is the only time, okay. Moulin Rouge is a piece of crap by the way.
Guest kane3212321 Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 Moulin Rouge is split into two camps I guess, those who love it and those who don't. I'm in one but I know alot of people in the other.
Guest spiny norman Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 Gone With The Wind (why hasn't it been mentioned yet?) Life Is Beautiful Blade Runner
Guest Marshall Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 Gone With The Wind (why hasn't it been mentioned yet?) Because its retarded. Yes it good, but time has not been kind to it. Its a real snooze-a-thon.

Guest godthedog Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 And unless someone else comes forth and says how much the forgien films kick ass I think they should be in debate...if no one's ever heard of them then it's for the best. Cause if no one knows them then something a little more well known should be on the list. Unless someone else has a better idea. so 'the bicycle thief' is in debate and 'mallrats' isn't? this is going to be the worst nominee list ever.

How can The Bicycle Thief not be up for it? Its considered to be one of the greats. Guest godthedog Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 ok, if we're gonna play this way i'll just list a bunch of stuff. the 400 blows ran jules and jim chimes at midnight un chien andalou repulsion deliverance greed rear window the road warrior ghost world waking life trainspotting being john malkovich the war room lost highway eraserhead
Guest Marshall Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 lost highway eraserhead David Lynch movies are crap. Nobody (not even David Lynch) understands them and if a movie makes no sence then its not worth watching.
Guest DrTom Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 I jujst read the list and there's some pretty crappy movies. Have you noticed that no one else is offering unwanted comments about the movies mentioned so far? If you don't like them, don't vote for them when the time comes. Let people name their favorite movies and let's get the list filled.
Guest redbaron51 Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 Training Day The Sting The Hunt for Red October
Guest godthedog Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 lost highway eraserhead David Lynch movies are crap. Nobody (not even David Lynch) understands them and if a movie makes no sence then its not worth watching. first, the only truly "nonsensical" movie lynch made, by my estimation, was 'lost highway'. all his others have a reasonable explanation. second, if you think a movie has to make sense on a literal level to be any good, you need to get your head out of your ass. there are some people who think that movies, as a medium, can best capture disorientation and dream-like states, and they gear their movies towards that; as opposed to a linear story that features characters with no ambiguity, which any book can capture just as easily (if not better). 'un chien andalou' purposely makes absolutely no sense at all, and it's considered to be the best short film ever made. why? because it's fun to watch what bunuel and dali do with the medium and use storytelling conventions for an effect that most people hadn't thought of before.

Guest The Hamburglar Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 Un Chien Andalou is great, visually stimulating surrealism. Eraserhead is extremely dull, irritating surrealism IMO. Haven't seen anything else by Lynch though, so can't comment on him overall.
