Guest razazteca Report post Posted October 17, 2002 can anybody explain all the hype behind Bob Sapp?
Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted October 17, 2002 I'm not following the puro scene very extensively, but he's becoming huge in Japan because of his size naturally and he's doing very well in shoot fights, something the Japanese love very much. His biggest accomplishment is defeating Ernesto Hoost, one of the greatest kickboxers ever if not the greatest.
Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted October 17, 2002 He's huge. That's pretty much it.
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted October 17, 2002 He beat Ernesto Hoost in a K-1 match. That is a HUGE deal. And there is a lot more crossover audience between shootfighting and pro wrestling in Japan than there is here.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted October 18, 2002 so is he like fat like Rikishi or huge like a giant or muscle roid freak like Bautista? I saw some K-1 fights on ESPN2 late night last week and I really do not see the big deal about it. Its basically Tough Man with real fighters with rules. The rounds are to short for me. Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted October 18, 2002 He's definitely a roid beast. The thing about the K-1 match was it was a first-timer taking down a legend. Sapp taking down some Japanese guy.
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted October 18, 2002 omg.. Toughman? Toughman is just a bunch of fat slobs pawing at each other. Rounds are too short, ok, do you feel the same way about boxing?
Guest razazteca Report post Posted October 18, 2002 I lost interest in boxing a long time ago, right now boxing is worst than WWE in my opinion. Boxing only being on PPV or preminum cable at extremely high prices for matches that are generally short or become Hossfest walking in circles and clutching is not entertaining to me. Boxing's biggest star is not the champion Lewis, it is the troubled heel Tyson, and creation of new stars is being held down by the establiment set by Don King. Maybe if I saw K-1 event from begining to end then I might like it but from what I have seen, I am not impressed. It states that the K stands for several different displines but all I see is Boxing and Kick Boxing with short rounds and everybody looks like Mark Henry or a Somaon on roids I prefer full contact fights, like Pride or UFC, now if K-1 would use Muay Thai with elbows and knees being aloud then maybe I would like K-1. But every time the fighters would grab the ref stops it, preventing throws, trips, or close strikes. I am not a fan of the K-1 style. damn Bob Sapp is thicked boned how has he done outside of K-1 in other MMA fights?
Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted October 18, 2002 His record is 2-1 according to Sherdog. He obliterated two Japanese guys before losing to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira by submission, but he did manage to last a full and impressive round before losing. And, FYI, Sapp is 6'3 and 350 pounds. He's like a human Kingpin of comic book fame.
Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted October 19, 2002 Bob Sapp really scares me....I mean really, really scares me.
Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted October 19, 2002 Sapp was actually supposed to have a WCW run in late 2000. I just got done watching a tape from that era (had to be Oct.-Nov. because it was based around the Steiner/Booker T. feud) and Sapp did a backstage interview talking about how he was training for his debut. Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted October 19, 2002 With his size, I wouldn't be surprised to see JR and the WWE attempt to offer him hookers and an ungodly amount of money to head over to North America. That is if Sapp still has interest in doing pro wrestling. He may enjoy being treated like a god in Japan as opposed to the political backstabbing environment that is the WWE. Guest razazteca Report post Posted October 19, 2002 but do you really want another Mark Henry or Viscera in WWE? Doe Bob Sapp have any other skills other than pure brute strength in boxing or can he actually wrestle and grapple. If WWE does sign Bob then they would probably bury him just like new talent they sign.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted October 19, 2002 I wasn't saying Sapp would be successful. I was implying that JR's affinity for HOSSES would land Sapp somewhere in the WWE. Where he went from there would depend on how bad the guys on top try to screw him.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted October 19, 2002 just curious has Bob Sapp fought Igor Vovchanchyn or Maurice Smith yet?

Guest Last Warrior Report post Posted October 21, 2002 I just got through watching bob sapp fight at pride 21 and all i can say is WOW. He was fighting some japanese fella who was probably well out of his league anyway but he was still very impressive. The opening bell rang. The japanese bloke kicked him in the leg, bob saw red and hit him with three POWER punches to the face and the fight was over. I have yet to see his fight with noguiera at pride 22 but i have got to try and get my hands on that.
