Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2002 The Source of the Force You can judge a series by the grudges held after it, in St. Louis and Kansas City ... the blood runs deep. St. Louis' refusal to forgive Denkinger for a call that did NOT even cost them the series shows that they just can't accept that they got beaten by Kansas City. (Not many people can!) Without a shadow of a doubt this list belongs to the Royals trumping the Cards ... Nothing compares to taking the last three games to win it in seven ... twice. Robert Henderson Independence, Mo. Those "..." are the spots where ESPN cut up my letter. Bastards. I guess the guy before me explaining why Denkinger didn't cost them the series covered it better. Oh, to Ken Schmidt of Wilbraham, Mass.: "Stick it brutha" <-- a bit more known. I think.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted October 18, 2002 I made CNNSI's 'Sports Tonight' once, made the whole newsroom crack up, too, apparently. I was in the chat they used to run that night, and it was the night that they cancelled the pre-season game at the Vet between the Ravens and the Eagles. I said something like, 'I bet the people in Philadelphia will be cheering the day the Vet is demolished... and hoping that someone is being crushed inside the wreckage', referencing Philly's history of having ruthless fans. It was just put along the bottom of the screen, like all of the other comments that the host decided to use, but Fred Hickman made sure to stop and point it out, and he seemed to get a nice laugh out of it. Guest DerangedHermit Report post Posted October 18, 2002 One of the people in my senior class got on ESPN.com's Page Two column asking for quotes for the yearbook. Except they misspelled his last name.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted October 18, 2002 Toronto Maple Leafs: Say It Ain't So You missed when the Leafs sent their heart and soul, Doug Gilmour, along with Dave Ellett to New Jersey for Steve Sullivan, Jason Smith and Alyn McAuley. Gilmour was one of the most popular Leafs of all time, and while Sullivan and Smith have both blossomed into good players (not with Toronto however, heck, signing Dmitri Kristich and waiving Steve Sullivan should also be on the list), McAuley is toiling away in the minors and will most certainly go somewhere else after this year. Tim Moysey, Brockville, Ontario Kostya Kennedy NHL Mailbag: Roman Turkey Question Why does no one respect Roman Turek? Last week, you referred to him as an excellent regular-season goaltender. What's wrong with him in the playoffs? He won two rounds last season, sweeping the two-time defending conference champions. Granted, he pulled a Bill Buckner with that goal he let in against San Jose in the 2000 playoffs, but then he beat the Sharks last year in the first round to prove he can win in the playoffs. Apparently, his coach forgot about this, losing all confidence in him after one bad game against Colorado. I think St. Louis would have been better off come playoff time with Turek between the pipes that with the unproven Johnson-Brathwaite tandem. —Tim Moysey, Brockville, Ontario I'm in both of those things, too. I've never made Page 2 on ESPN.com, though. Although, I've only tried once or twice, that I can remember.
