Wish you were here is up there on my list, but even though it's short, it's just not as consistantly good as The Wall. I could sit and listen to the Wall all the way through like 3 times and not skip anything if I had the time. With Wish you were Here, I'd probably skip Welcome to the Machine or something.

The Wall is my second favorite Pink Floyd album.

I just love every second of the Wish You were here album.

To be honest, the Wall would probably rank 4th overall...

but this was a top 3 list ^_^

Wish You Were Here contains the only Pink Floyd song I've ever liked (the title track). The rest is blah.

And NBT listed four albums, but who's counting?

i won't criticize your picks, but it is kind of...peculiar of you to choose '1' out of all the beatles albums.

speaking of beatles albums, here's my picks:

'abbey road'

'revolver'

'the pod' (ween)

U2, Achtung Baby

The Beatles, Abbey Road

The Clash, London Calling

In all honesty, the Beatles' album often rotates (between the aforementioned, Revolver, and The White Album), and The Velvet Underground & Nico fights it out with the Clash for that last spot. U2's always my personal favorite, though...and I'd actually feel comfortable throwing these three onto a legit "Best" list, not just a personal favorites one.

treble charger - Maybe It's Me

Our Lady Peace - Naveed

Weezer - Pinkerton

Those are probably the 3 albums I can play over and over again without getting sick of them (the Our Lady Peace one could just as easily be Clumsy, though, depends on the day).

"Ice Cube: Death Certificate (Classic Cube shit)"

Not saying it's one of the greatest albums of all time, but it was, imo, Cube's best overall effort. Nice beats, some yo-yo-yo lyrics, some political/social lyrics. Ain't nothing like telling the Jews and Asians that "we're" going to burn your stores down...

Black Sabbath-Self Titled

Black Sabbath-Paranoid

Tool-Lateralus

That's if I had to pick just three. The first two being the two best albums from the most influential band to me, and the third being the best album of the past 20 years or so, IMO. Extrememly inventive, the recording is absolutely perfect, it's obvious a LOT of time and effort went into writing the songs, all of which flow into the next masterfully. Parabol/Parabola, and Disposition/Reflection/Triad are the best parts IMO, but there isn't a spot on the album where I can point and say, "That isn't very good."

Some other albums I'd consider for this: Down-Nola, Slayer-Divine Intervention, Pink Floyd-Obscured by Clouds, and The Doors-Self Titled.

The Beatles- Abbey Road

Bob Dylan- Blonde on Blonde

The Clash- London Calling

That's generally how I'd put it, although OK Computer pops in and out of the list. That albums suffers from being in my collection for so long that I feel no need to listen to it anymore. Pet Sounds is a contender, as well.

I came close to putting Outkast's Aquemini in there, but I only wanted one album from the 90s being represented, and Pavement won the coin toss.

Also, aside from myself and meanmaisch, is there anyone else who thinks The Bends is a superior Radiohead album to OK Computer?

I'm probably the only one here who thinks that The Wall was Pink Floyd weakest album.

With that in mind top three.

Genesis: Lambs Lie Down on Broadway

Metallica: Master of Puppets.

Who: Who's Next

I've talked to a lot of people that prefer The Bends. It's justifiable, I guess. Goodhelmet's favorite Radiohead album is Pablo Honey. He's the real outcast among us.

Oh, come on. It's not that bad. I'll agree that it's probably their weakest album besides Amnesiac, but half of the songs are fantastic and quite a few of the others are just fine.

I can't shoot too much hate towards any album that's got "Lurgee," "Anyone Can Play Guitar," and "Blow Out."

All in all, my favorite Radiohead usually comes down to a close one between The Bends and OK Computer, with Kid A occasionally contending if I'm in a particularly mellow mood. Much like my top 3 Beatles discs, these shuffle about quite a bit--which, in my mind, is a great thing.

Back from the dead and shit.

Wish You Were Here contains the only Pink Floyd song I've ever liked (the title track). The rest is blah.

I was like that for a long time, with "Hey You" being the only Floyd song I liked. But as I have gotten old, I've begun to enjoy them quite a bit more. I still don't think they're amazing or anything, but they're at least good, IMO.

Also, aside from myself and meanmaisch, is there anyone else who thinks The Bends is a superior Radiohead album to OK Computer?

I've said that for quite a while; I swear you and I discussed it in at least one thread. Anyway, while OK Computer has my favourite Radiohead song of all time on it, the album just doesn't have the songwriting that makes The Bends such a watershed for them. In addition, I don't think OK Computer has the flow that is necessary for a great album. Just my thoughts.

My picks:

Black Sabbath--Paranoid

The Cure--Disintegration

The Afghan Whigs--1965

I could list several more, but those are the 3 that best represent what I am into. Others that could fluctuate into the list:

Genesis--The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway

New Order--Low-Life

Marvin Gaye--Let's Get It On

Therapy?--Troublegum

The Clash--London Calling

The Smiths--The Queen Is Dead

Neil Young--Harvest

Bob Dylan--The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan

There are probably a handful of others too, but those are the ones that spring to mind at the moment.

That is all.

Pablo Honey is decent, but it doesn't feel as complete an album as The Bends. I like OK Computer, although it begins to drag at the end. Kid A and Amnesiac could have been combined, using the best thirteen or so tracks from the two albums. I find Kid A to be a better listen than Amnesiac, as Amnesiac felt like it had only a few full songs on it.

as albums, 'ok computer' and 'the bends' are probably evenly matched. 'ok computer' is more cohesive as an album while 'the bends' is basically a collection of songs, but the songwriting from 'the bends' tends to be much better. kinda like comparing 'sgt pepper' and 'revolver'.
