Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 I was always a mark for HTM even as a kid. I think he is a much maligned talent. It's not that he was a horrible wrestler, he was asked to fit a certain role with a certain style and did what was asked of him. He always seemed to be up for most matches and didn't have problems with putting guys over within a match, even though he wasn't too keen in jobbing to people. However, he did job to the Ultimate Warrior in 30 seconds and that was the match that really put Warrior over and made him a main event performer. He then went on for the rest of his WWF career and basically returned every job given to him. I can hardly remember him winning a match after dropping the IC title. HTM could work a crowd better than anybody and is the text book case of a "love to hate" type of guy.
Guest razazteca Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 better singer than Double J Jeff Jarrett
Guest Coffin Surfer Posted October 19, 2002 Report Posted October 19, 2002 Honkey Tonk Man was one of the greatest heel gimmicks ever. How could you not hate a fat Elvis impersonator that kept going over all the top baby faces like Ricky Steamboat. You don't hear much about him though, because in the 80s he was just another great heel persona. With guys like Million Dollar Man, Rick Rude, Randy Savage, Ric Flair, it's easy to see how he got lost in shuffle.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted October 19, 2002 Report Posted October 19, 2002 As a kid I hated him...but when I got older and reflected on the gimmick I thought he was great. Has a HUGE fuckin ego though, very bitter at everyone, and I'm talking Bret like bitter
Guest BAR Posted October 19, 2002 Report Posted October 19, 2002 After hearing what Dynamite and Lawler say about him, I see him in a different light. But, I was a HTM mark at one time.
Guest bob_barron Posted October 19, 2002 Report Posted October 19, 2002 He's cool, He's cocky, He's bad
Guest Last Warrior Posted October 21, 2002 Report Posted October 21, 2002 I didnt really care for his comments about the dynamite kid when he made them and to me hesounded a bit jealous and also bitter that he wasnt in the spotlight any more. He was a good performer however and whilst he was not the greatest in ring talent he was one of the main stars in the WWF at one time, he did draw people to shows and he was a fantastic heel.
