As a Musician, Bob Marley was very amazing but it's his Status that makes him the ICON he is.

We all know the amazing story of Bob Marley and what he fought for and his political viewpoints, he was the "Top Dog" of Jamaica, Like Bono in Ireland and John Lennon for the peace movement, Marley was the musical political mind. He greatly influence the emotions and think process of many people through his music. A true legend that ranks with the likes of Elvis, Lennon and the Beatles, Bono, Old Blue Eyes in terms of Music skills and Political power.

It's unfourtante that Marley has in some cases became a Punchline for something that he never really wanted to be remembered for.

Bob Marley represented the struggle and hardships for the people of Jamica and Africa.  He sang about terrible living conditions.  He have these people the feeling that they could overcome their plight and be something.

He directed his popular music to a social cause.  Bob recognized that so many people loved his music, but he put intelligent messages in the songs.

What started out as a simple love for American r&b turned into a whole new movement.  His movement was for freedom and the end of pain for the 3rd world countires.  He stayed real to himself, Jah, and the message of his music.

In my estimation, Bob Marley was more important than the Beatles.  The Beatles were extremly popular because of their music.  They inspired many artists.  But so did Bob Marley.  He has inspired reggae, punk, ska, r&b, hip/hop, you name it...but he also made socially aware songs.  He was the original Bono or John Lennon.  He gave HIS people something to be proud of and rally behind.  Bob Marley was an ICON...and in MY estimation, the most influential man in music history.

The thing that's really amazing about Bob Marley is that a majority of Jamaican people considered him a prophet.  Seriously. Can any other pop musician claim "prophet to millions" on their resume?

I consider Bob Marley as an ICON. He was a man that stood up to the persecution his people were facing and he brought out a message of love. He always had a message in his songs which put him above most music icons because gave thought to what he was singing about. He used the power of music to show the masses the problems that jamaicans and africans were facing. It was Bob Marley who really brought about socially relevant music for the times.

He was so good at what he did that it gave rise to the concept album. My favourite singer of all time, Marvin Gaye credited Marley among others for showing him the light to create his own prophetic album. (WHAT'S GOING ON) In some ways both men were similar. The main difference was that Marvin succumbed to the flesh while Marley stayed spiritually aware. This led to Stevie Wonder and a score of other african-american artists to make music with a message. Bob Marley was the progenitar of the thoughtful, concerned for his people, black artist and for this we must thank him.
