Net Seeks Reality Series Candidates

NEW YORK (AP) - The Outdoor Life Network is looking for candidates willing to try to climb Mount Everest (news - web sites) as part of television reality series.

 

 

 

The cable network is casting for "Global Extremes: Mt. Everest — 4Runners of Adventure," a series that will culminate in an attempted climb of the world's tallest mountain.

 

 

The winner of a series of challenges gets $250,000, the network said on Thursday.

 

 

Before Everest, the competitors will face challenges in Africa's Kalahari Desert, in the wilderness in Borneo and in the mountains of Iceland.

 

 

The network, which is running the contest with Toyota, will select 50 physically fit men and women, 21 and older, for the contest. Twelve finalists will be chosen from that pool of volunteers.

 

No way in HELL would I try and climb Mt. Everest for only $250,000. If I remember correctly there are been quite a few deaths on that there mountain for my liking.

most likely it won't be mount everst. It'll be some other mountain instead.

If that stat is true, then Mt. Everest is fucking hardcore. No way I'd be able to climb the thing, with as much as I smoke, but it would still be something impressive to see firsthand.

If you've never read Into Thin Air by John Krakauer and you're interested in Everest, I'd suggest taking a look. Storms whip up in a matter of an hour on Everest, and people die in a good year. Just a normal climb has about eighteen degrees of difficulty and twice as many ways for you to die. One of the guys in the book survived only he felt too sick to leave Camp Four (which is the highest camp).

I know I'm a couple days late, but after years of waiting, it looks like we'll have our first reality death, hopefully putting an end to this crap before they get 12 "Ordinary Men and Women" and send them to Mars or something.
