Survivor Series 1988

Okay, so Keith's Survivors 88 rant says this show was destroyed by injuries. The end result isn't fantastic (though cool for nostalgia), so what was originally planned for it? I have a couple of tidbits on the undercard changes, but anyone have info on why the jobbers in the main event?

Actual Matches

1--Demoliton, Brain Busters, Rougeau Brothers, Bolsheviks & Conquistadors vs. Powers Of Pain, Hart Foundation, British Bulldogs, Rockers & Young Stallions (no changes to this that I'm aware of)

2--Ultimate Warrior, Brutus Beefcake, Blue Blazer, Sam Houston & Jim Brunzell vs. Honky Tonk Man, Ron Bass, Bad News Brown, Greg Valentine & Danny Davis (Brunzell apparently replaced Don Muraco, who left the WWF around this time)

3--Hacksaw Duggan, Jake Roberts, Tito Santana, Ken Patera & Scott Casey vs. Andre The Giant, Rick Rude, Mr Perfect, Harley Race & Dino Bravo (Casey said to have replaced B. Brian Blair who quit when the Killer Bees were disbanded, Blair himself having replaced Junk Yard Dog who had also left the WWF)

4---Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Hercules, Hillbilly Jim & Koko B. Ware vs. Ted DiBiase, Big Bossman, Akeem, Haku & Red Rooster (so any ideas which could possibly justify this as a ppv main event?)

The whole draw for the main was to further the Megapowers v. Twin Towers and Akeem v. Dibase feuds with the other guys thrown in to make it 5 on 5

i'm aware of that, but was curious if the guys to make up the numbers were originally guys of slightly higher calibre which were subsequently lost to injury. it did seem odd to have essentially some jtts's in there in the main event, and sk's comments that the show was ruined by injuries would seem out of proportion if just referring to a couple undercard substitutions.

I'm guessing Scott Keith was sort of exagerrating when he said that. To tell the truth, I can't think of anybody else on the roster at that time.

Don Muraco & JYD were scheduled to be on 2 of the teams (Muraco in the opening match later that night, and JYD on Roberts team vs. Andres). By the way, the opening match was NOT the 10 on 10 elimanation match. Jesus Christ. Didn't anyone read the smark krew folder lately on my review form the actual live PPV version of it.

Dibiase/Hercules was feuding.

Towers/Powers was main focus.

Hillbilly Jim, Koko, Haku, Rooster were thrown in for fodder, or were thrown in because Heenan's guys couldn't be on the Andre team due to it being filled already.

Well, I didn't, but that did annoy me when I actually got the PPV version on tape and saw where that match was. Well, at least Coliseum Video didn't clip it all to hell.
