Guest godthedog Posted October 19, 2002 Report Posted October 19, 2002 got the idea for the topic in the 'requiem' thread where i said: the meaning of it is: "hey, wait a minute, what am i doing in this really slick 'trainspotting' rip-off? it was funnier and actually cared about its characters, i'm just being used as an excuse for the director to use every possible editing trick! dammit!" i think the 'coolest drug movie of all time' title would boil down to these 2 movies. so, argue for which is better. or, if you think there's one (or several), like 'drugstore cowboy' or whatever, argue for that.
Guest razazteca Posted October 19, 2002 Report Posted October 19, 2002 Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is one trippy movie, as the director shows Johnny Depp's character's delusions, such as the lizard lounge.
Guest El Satanico Posted October 19, 2002 Report Posted October 19, 2002 I think he's going for drug movies that have a serious tone. Fear and Loathing is basically a comedy drug movie. I personally think Requiem is the best one. It's the only drug movie that has been able to make me not want to do any drug again after watching it. It's just a very intense movie that puts you inside the mind of an addict like very few movies have been able to get close to.
Guest razazteca Posted October 19, 2002 Report Posted October 19, 2002 what about Blow or Traffic they were more serious movies about the distribution of drugs in the USA.
Guest El Satanico Posted October 19, 2002 Report Posted October 19, 2002 Judging from the movies he brought up i think he's asking about drug use movies, but i guess drug dealing movies could be up for discussion as well.
Guest Kinetic Posted October 19, 2002 Report Posted October 19, 2002 Trainspotting by a landslide. Better characters, better story, better acting, incomprehensible accents that force you to watch it several times just to figure out what anyone's saying...it's got it all. A pretty sweet soundtrack, as well. Requiem has the whole ass-to-ass thing going for it, as well as a lot of very nifty camera tricks. But in the end, it really can't compete.
Guest godthedog Posted October 20, 2002 Report Posted October 20, 2002 yeah, i was referring more to drug use movies.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted October 20, 2002 Report Posted October 20, 2002 Fear and Loathing, by far. The inner dialogue is fucking awesome. I really like Trainspotting and Requiem, though, but I can't watch Requiem as often, so I guess it's Trainspotting. It's a toss up between "ass to ass" and "spud shits the bed."
Guest NoCalMike Posted October 21, 2002 Report Posted October 21, 2002 I think a lot of people identify with Requiem because we probobaly know people who are small-time drug dealers. The director explained it is more of a movie about addiction, rather than drugs alone. Addiction and the pursuit of happiness and how it all gets messed up because of a few stupid decisions.
Guest Lethargic Posted October 21, 2002 Report Posted October 21, 2002 I don't even get why these two are being compared. Trainspotting is more of a drug comedy with people shitting in beds while Requiem is a no holds barred hardcore drugs suck type thing. They're two completely different things.
Gert T Posted October 21, 2002 Report Posted October 21, 2002 Yeah I agree they are two different drug type movies, as far as which one was more effective with its message was Requiem. However, I would watch Trainspotting again, which makes it more entertaining than Requiem.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted October 21, 2002 Report Posted October 21, 2002 Trainspotting was stupid. Requiem made me afraid to take asprins.
Guest godthedog Posted October 22, 2002 Report Posted October 22, 2002 I don't even get why these two are being compared. Trainspotting is more of a drug comedy with people shitting in beds while Requiem is a no holds barred hardcore drugs suck type thing. They're two completely different things. no, it's not completely different things, they're 2 movies that take you through the lifestyles of drug addicts. they also both use extreme visual styles to get the effects of drug use/withdraw across. just because something has really funny moments doesn't make it a comedy. 'trainspotting' hardly retains a comedic tone for the whole running time.
Guest converge241 Posted October 24, 2002 Report Posted October 24, 2002 The sequel to Trainspotting just came out (the book that is) "Porno" set about 10 years after Trainspotting is slightly better and whethere you like Loathing or dont the audio is pure genius filmaking, yet vey simplistic in nature at the same time
Zorin Industries Posted October 25, 2002 Report Posted October 25, 2002 Trainspotting had Kelly McDonald, so it wins hands down
Guest converge241 Posted October 25, 2002 Report Posted October 25, 2002 The girl who played Diane? sorry i dont remember if they are one in the same but i love that girl
