Guest UndertakerHart Report post Posted October 20, 2002 First off, I found a cheap (100.00) motherboard by MSI called 845G Max and I was wondering if any one has heard of it and what they thought of it. It has 6 2.0 USB ports which is good except 4 of them are in the front and I don't know of any cases with 4 USB ports in the front. The cheap case I was looking at had no USB ports but I really don't want to spend the money on a more expensive case. I need the ports cause I have a Sidewinder gamepad, printer, CD Burner, and a scanner I use occasionally. Can I use USB cd-writer to install Windows 98? Will Windows recognize P4 2.4 Ghz processor? Thanks in advance. --- A Winner Is You
Guest DrTom Report post Posted October 20, 2002 Even a cheap case should have USB ports. I'm guessing you mean it didn't have any in the front. It's worth the extra $10 or so to get one that does, since that's a lot less than a hub costs. It's been so long since I loaded Windows 98 onto anything, I don't know if you can load it from a USB CD drive. The Win98 CD should be bootable, but I really don't know if it would find a USB device during the simple hardware detection it does. My instinct tells me no, but I could be wrong. Windows should have no problem with your CPU.
Guest MrRant Report post Posted October 20, 2002 I don't think the BIOS would recogonize a USB CD-ROM drive. Why not just buy a IDE CDROM from like www.computergeeks.com or even Best Buy for like $20-30 bucks?
