All Japan in trouble now

Keiji Mutoh messed up his knee in his match yesterday and he possibly has ligiment damage and will be out of action for a while.

No Kawada untill April, No Mutoh for a while (he may possibly retire). What will All Japan do to draw money now. I'm thinking big ass pushes for Kojima, Kea, Ajjima(sp), Anjoh, and Nagai. Also Goldberg is now a lock to win the Triple Crown.

Any other comments?

Didn't Misawa injure his leg while attempting an elbow suicida a few days ago? How bad was it?

Losing the top draws would be bad for business right now but being forced to push young, talented blood like Kojima and Kea would be positive in the long run.

Goldberg + Triple Crown =

I'm so glad Mutoh is injured, maybe he'll realise what his idiotic booking is doing to AJPW. Now Mutoh is injured, he might realise that no one else in the whole company is a big draw, and that his half arse attempts to create new stars are failing miserably.

I'll be interested to see what happens here, but I hope Mutoh is forced to retire and fuck off from wrestling, I might actually like AJPW if he's not there.

Somewhere, Jubuki is laughing.

AJPW has been in trouble since 1996, so this is no big surprise.

Fire Mutoh, let Tosh retire, give him the book, and start over.

Rebuild slow but surely. Create your own stars. I would even shut down for a period of time. Scour EVERYWHERE to find the next Misawas, Ligers, etc.

But none of this will happen. And it really doesn't matter.

I'm laughing too. I find injuries funny when they happen to lazy bastards like Mutoh and Kevin Nash, because they deserve it.

It's not as if this is any kind of suprise. Mutoh's knees have been shit for years now, and even without him stinking up the matches, his booking isn't going to get any better, and that's the real problem.

I hope this drives them out of business. That's the only real possitive that can come out of this.

I don't think its good, or deserved that someone be injured, but it might be a blessing in disguise, Mutoh has no chance to winning the TC now, last I heard he has to have a whole new knee insterted.

hmmm, I see your point...but,

realistically, does Keiji Mutoh really "deserve" injury? no. He entertains millions of people and he is one of the most popular wrestlers in Japanese history. Just because I (and obviously some others here) dont particularly enjoy his matches doesn't mean he deserves to be a cripple.

Amen to that brother.

So basically, because "he's poplular" he gets to spit on the tradition and lineage of a company with over thirty years of history? He gets to do that under the guise of "saving puroresu" while doing more harm than anyone ever could? Mutoh is a chump, a fraud, and a disgrace.

Black Tiger: Who cares whether or not he gets the Triple Crown now? He already crapped all over it with his 01-02 run, and now he's looking to put it on Goldberg. The damage is done, and it's only going to get worse now that Mutoh can't have it.

I didn't find it too amusing. Besides, I don't hate Mutoh; I've gone to the wall for him enough times, when he could and would go, to prove that. I'm just the type to call a spade a spade, is all.

According to Stuart its Kojima who gets the Triple Crown Title shot now, everyone and their dog knew Mutoh was going to win it from Tenryu, maybe Kojima gets the titles now. Its not likely, but it could happen.

I guess pushing young talent isn't high on Mutoh's priority list, not only did he work the match, he won the fucking titles, so now AJPW has a Triple Crown Champion that needs an operation for a new knee, isn't that smart?

I will never understand this mentality.

I will bitch and moan about the WWE until I'm blue in the face. But still....I'd never want them to actually go out of business.

I don't see how Mutoh deserves this injury. I mean, he's not HHH or Kevin Nash, for crying out loud.

Sadly, AJ isn't going anywhere. They've been selling out a lot lately. Somehow, shitty matches have become good for business.

Whether or not he actually deserves to be injurred is besides the point. Mutoh is someone who just shouldn't be wrestling, considering his ability and attitude towards the tradition of AJPW. As for wanting them to go out of business, if Mutoh wants to run a promotion like the one he's currently running, with himself as the focus with hords of shitty talent and worthless foreginers winning the belts, that's fine. But when he does it to All Japan, it's a complete slap in the face to what was once the best style in the world. What he's done to the once great promotion that Giant Baba created is inexscusable, to the point that I would rather it go out of business than endure any more of his disgracefull booking decisions.

And yeah, unfortunately, the additions of Mutoh, Kojima, and Ka Shin have helped business. The BAPESTAR circus that Kojima booked drew very well, as have most of the Mutoh-booked rubish. Goldberg, at the moment, is drawing plenty of interest. I can't understand it, but there it is, anyway.

Not to mention how most of his good talent is being mis-used. There were so many shitty wrestlers who could have jobbed to Goldberg those two nights, and the event still would have drawn fine.

The best two wrestlers workrate wise IMO are Anjoh and Nagai, they are being wasted in six man matches with over the hill Americans like Steve Williams and Johnny Smith.

Anjo is like a caricature of himself right now. Nagai has never impressed me much, and seems to be a pretty unsafe worker, judging by what he did to Iizuka last year.

The best is obviously a healthy Kawada, but even he gave me doubts in the 2/24/02 obomination. Hopefully he retires from this, too.

Most likely, Tenryu is the best they have, at the moment. Kaz Hayashi is a fun worker, too.

I don't know about you cynical puro smarks but losing All Japan would be worse than losing a limb. AJPW before the split was the best fed EVER.

Does anyone know how bad of shape they are in?

Yea, from 1990-1996.

It's 6 years later.

Tim, not a cynical smark, just a realist.

I don't suppose you might try reading the thread?

Funny, and here I thought AJPW from '98-00 was anything but the "BEST. FED. EVER." Even in '97, they had plenty of stinkers and terrible dissapointments.
