Guest Steve J. Rogers Report post Posted October 21, 2002 Anyone annoyed as hell at Fox Sports dopey gimmick for October with the Papa Shango wannabe voodo witch doctor. Okay, maybe not THAT annoyed but it reeks TOO much of FOX trying to reel in the causal/non sports fan who watches "Themed Nights On TV" I.e. "Must See TV Thursday on NBC" or any of the HUDREDS of such gimmicked nights weither its a one-night event (I.e. "CROSS OVER NIGHT" or "Blackout In NYC NIGHT!" ) or some strange label ("The Funniest Night on TV" "Action ___Day" ) And of course the sad thing as always is no matter HOW much you try to promote a game or ANYTHING the ratings will always SUCK for sporting events (which is a whole different thread for a different day due to all the various reasons) except for Super Bowl Sundays or a Game 6-7 of a series (baseball, or hoops) So for the most part those who watch are hard-core fans (or those at bars/college dorm rec rooms, or parties) who don't need ANY stupid promo trick to watch or don't watch. "Gee they have a Halloween Theme going, maybe I'll watch" Actually, and I disagree with this opinion but I was listening to a NYC based sports talk radio show during the NLCS and heard a Cardinal fan say that it was an insulting approach considering the Cardnials situation with the death of Daryl Kile. To me that guy was either A) too sensitive or B) Was trying to start some conversation on the topic (which didn't happen as I didn't hear a call on it the rest of the night) but I can see where some people might be offended with the promos And don't even get me started with the shameless self-promotion! "Hey thats 24's Keifer Sutherland enjoying the game next to Boston Pubic's Jeri Ryan!" Steve
Guest Bosstones Fan Report post Posted October 21, 2002 Man, November 1 cannot come quick enough. I'm so sick of that goddamned voodoo guy laughing. I'm also sick of Fox's dumbass promos, along with their "cool" game presentation, namely all those video-gameish sounds and lame "virtual manager" things they keep running during the baseball playoffs. Just show me the game and let me get on with my life. It just makes me hate Fox even more than I did before. (Edited for spelling)
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted October 21, 2002 I actually like the October Magical Match-up promos. They grow on you. Then again, so does cancer...
Guest RevEvil Report post Posted October 21, 2002 I miss NBC's coverage,or CBS's, or ABC's
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted October 21, 2002 The Fox celebrities are the worst thing about the coverage. No one they showed except maybe Charlie Sheen looked liked they had any interest in being at the game.
Guest Smues Report post Posted October 21, 2002 George Brett catching the foul ball then eating his hot dog was cool.
Guest Jericholic82 Report post Posted October 21, 2002 you know what annoys me to no end? the commentary Joe Buck is an overrated shill-clown who blatantly cheers for his personal favs and mcarver has nothing much to add. This almost makes me miss bob costas on nbcs coverage. at least he didnt annoucne evrey celebrtity in the ballpark and have silly converstaions with his partners. I wish joe morgan could replace mcarver but hes on espn. he is someone who can provide low-key inciteful commentray on the game itself i hate foxs self-promotion. and you have to wonder if all the fox stars are told to come to the game cuz most of them looked ininterested last night they even played the simpsons anmd king of the hill themes for the fan cam. they cant even make it back to the game in time from commericalls. last night a comercial started and halfway cut back to the game which almost missed the first pitch of the inning. and does anyone else wonder about the legitmacy of espns coverage. after all espn is also owned by disney as well as the angles. kind of a conflict of interest there huh? nothing much just an observance people talk about my yanks spending mobey. the angels are owned by freakin disney, who has more billions and kazillions than anyone. i cant belive they actually put together a winning team while spending like cheapos. forgive my ranting Im tired and have to take a test in my college class in about 15 mins

Guest CanadianChris Report post Posted October 24, 2002 This almost makes me miss bob costas on nbcs coverage. ALMOST?? It's a damn shame Costas isn't doing baseball anymore...it was by far his best (and favourite) sport to cover. Costas, Sean McDonough, Jon Miller and Dan Shulman are the best baseball announcers going. A shame we don't get to hear any of them come playoff time (except Miller, and then only for the Division series).
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted October 24, 2002 you know what annoys me to no end? the commentary Joe Buck is an overrated shill-clown who blatantly cheers for his personal favs and mcarver has nothing much to add. I wish joe morgan could replace mcarver but hes on espn. he is someone who can provide low-key inciteful commentray on the game itself Buck is ok, although I thought he was going to cry when the Cards lost to the Giants, but he does their games and his dad worked for them so i understand it. McCarver is a little annoying and sometimes has trouble with left and right and inside and outside (he tends to call pitches "on the inside corner" when they were outside or right down the middle) but I can live with it. What incite does Joe Morgan add? "Look, right there (draws little cirle on the screen) a little cutter on the corner and (whoever) swung through it." That's about the extent of his incite, unless bragging about his career and blowing Barry Bonds count.
