Guest Steve J. Rogers Report post Posted October 21, 2002 Granted its probably just the Arizona Home schedule which means only 8 games but WTF? Pat says he gonna quit period and John Madden couldn't get the fuck out of FOX and into the MNF fast enough Shows you John's BS about "Its me and Pat or I won't go" was just that, BS Of course it may have been Pat's reluntance to get involved with the Honeydew Fall Sunday Seasons (Honey do this, honey do that) If thats the case, Pat better be making the minimum for an announcer, yeah like THAT would ever happen! Guest Leena Report post Posted October 21, 2002 I know, I watched the extra coverage of Arizona-Dallas. He sounds even worse now, he sounds like a zombie.
Guest Steve J. Rogers Report post Posted October 21, 2002 Yeah, especially on the game winning field goal. Hey you just showed ALL THREE PREVIOUS MISSES and he DOESN'T EVEN MENTION THEM? No "VINIDCATION FOR MATT GRAMATICA! THE FOURTH TIME IS A CHARM AND THE CARDINALS HAVE WON THIS ONE IN OVERTIME!" Especially when he and his partner RIPPED the Cards for going back to him instead of keep pounding the run untill time ran out (or I think thats what they were saying) Steve
Guest Bosstones Fan Report post Posted October 21, 2002 He's done the Dallas games the last three weeks (have seen them all, as part of Houston's "regional" coverage). At first, I thought that I was hearing things because I thought that he had retired as well, but the Houston Chronicle's TV sports guy says that Summerall was kept at a lower salary and "less prominent" schedule, due to Fox feeling that he isn't a top-tier play-by-play guy anymore (duh!). Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted October 21, 2002 I thought he was done with Fox broadcasting, too. I was taking out the trash when Fox jumped into the Cowboy/Card. game. I thought I was hearing a ghost. "Yeah, especially on the game winning field goal. Hey you just showed ALL THREE PREVIOUS MISSES and he DOESN'T EVEN MENTION THEM? No "VINIDCATION FOR MATT GRAMATICA! Guest ant_7000 Report post Posted October 21, 2002 No, they showed him in week 1 on the Fox watch on the pregame show. I guess they felt bad forcing him out so they brought him back.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted October 21, 2002 If Fox would of fired Summerall, he would of sued for age discrimination and probably would of won. God forbid you retire on your own Pat. Since where talking about Summerall. How does everyone think Madden's done so far. IMO...he says nothing of interest and only mentions things that the average viewer already knows. Guest phoenixrising Report post Posted October 21, 2002 Summerall did the Cowboys/Eagles game in Week 3, I was listening and kept saying "Damn that guy sounds like Pat". I guess he pulled a Keith Jackson. (Keith Jackson retired from college football announcing after the 1999 Fiesta Bowl, then changed his mind and came back to do ABC's Pac-10 games b/c he lives on the West Coast so the travel wasn't as bad.) Madden's doing all right. He's just doing usual Madden stuff. I wish they would use the feature where they demonstrate the plays using Madden NFL 2003, but that's just the eight year Madden game vet in me.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted October 21, 2002 I like Madden on MNF. Anything's better than D. Miller...

Guest MD2020 Report post Posted October 21, 2002 I read that it's just a partial schedule for Pat, just doing Cowboy games. That way, he can stay close to home for half of the season.
Guest Banky Report post Posted October 21, 2002 You guys are so niave, if anything, Madden stooged out on Summerall. He was going to ABC no matter what, it was just an act by Madden to say he'd stay in Summerall stayed as well.
Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted October 22, 2002 Summerall asked if he could announce the Dallas games on TV and he was given the okay.

He was going to ABC no matter what, it was just an act by Madden to say he'd stay in Summerall stayed as well. Actually I was refering to past negotiations Big John has had through the years where he was all set to jump (usually to MNF) and when he got what he wanted from FOX (or CBS) he allways put up a front that he didn't want to break up his partnership with Pat Summerall Hey if we chastise players for not saying "Yeah they gave me a shit load of money" why can't we do that with announcers. Thats what I was talking about with John's BS about not wanting to break up his partnership with Pat, has nothing to do with the current deal with John moving on to MNF Steve
