Getting over with Damaged Credibility

Recommended Posts

Guest Razor Roman

Does anyone think that a scenario similar to this could work to get over a "damaged" wrestler back over again?

The wrestler comes to terms with the fact that he's damaged, and every show we see him working to improve himself in some way. They've sort of hinted at stuff like it before, with DLo trying to help Mark Henry lose weight, and even Bischoff telling the big show to start acting like a main eventer and maybe he'll get in the main events...

But it's never really worked before, probably because the wrestler didn't ACTUALLY improve. They could do it the "kayfabed" way and say, focus Jericho on winning the World Title again, with his big obstacle being Triple H. (The only logical payoff would be him actually beating HHH to either win the title, or maybe to become #1 contender, en route to actually winning the title) But he could make a big deal out of hitting the weights, or watching tapes of HHH's matches backstage and really focus on overcoming the obstacle, and in the process recreating the character.

Or they could do it the real way and we can see the big show lose weight and learn how to wrestle from Dean Malenko, while he decimates jobbers on Heat. His catch phrase can be "I can do it on my own".

I think we have a better chance of JEricho beating HHH clean.

They would probably be better off starting over again with a new look and new characters that WWE actually sticks with instead of trying something new for a week, then making them jobbers for the next few months.

The Big Show has lost to Jeff Hardy. 'Nuff said. As for Jericho, it's possible, though extremley tough. Give the guy a high-profile victory over somebody like Booker, RVD or Kane by making them tap clean in the middle of the ring. Other then that, he's funked.

I think if they turn Jericho face and give him the appearance that he can win matches, people will believe.

I agree. I don't believe Jericho is a lost cause yet because of his talent, his charisma and his ability to play the strong underdog character. All he needs is a face turn and a feud with Triple H. Don't run from his past as Triple H's bitch. Bring it up in interviews how he has beaten Austin, Rock, etc. but he has never conquered Triple H. Do the chase for a couple months, have Triple H tap out to the WOJ on a PPV and you've got yourself a new top face.

Granted, the above paragraph is just fiction in the WWE's current political climate, but the possibility is still there.

Big Show - He HAS to get in better shape before they even try and push him. Every few months he'll cut a decent promo about how he used to be a main eventer but now he's a nobody. Then he waddles to the ring fat as ever and everyone remembers why he's a nobody. He has no one to blame but himself for his current position.

For people with talent like Jericho and Angle, I think it's possible to come back from damaged credability. And it doesn't really take much. For example, handed right, you can just give someone a few new moves and a new finisher. The kayfabe reason for why a jobber suddenly wins is matches is that now they've found moves that can put the other guy away.

A new look, attitude, and *cough forcing the main event slugs to job also can do a lot here.

WCW kinda did this with DDP, mentioning how he studied tapes all the time. I kinda dug the whole jobber working hard to make it bit, but it's not something that plays out well in only a month, so I doubt the wwf would do it correctly.

I honestly believe that Big Show is a lost cause. He refuses to lose weight and keep it off. Plus, even when he is slimmer he still sucks horribly.

I think there is still a chance with Jericho.

There is no doubt jericho could get over again.

He needs to take a while off and regain his motivation.

Then after airing vignettes with his return he becomes the wcw 1998 jericho again.

He was an absolute god then and it will work again turning him tweener.

I agree, but only because at one time Jericho was at the top of WWE. Big SHow was never a legite star, and therefore no one is willing to completely believe it

Give Jericho and Show a year off - tell Show to go back to OVW and tell Jericho to focus on Fozzy or something - then in a years time they come back with a clean slate and Show can be Jerichos body guard or something... And bring back ralphus.

Give Jerisho time off. Make his cut the ridiculous beard. For the love of all that is holy have him use the LIONTAMER where his knee is pressed against the neck and it actually looks credible. Give him some submission victories that are high profile ( they seem to be just handing those out lately) Keep him in high profile matches.

Boy, Am I glad to see you posting again, Rudo. :headbang:
