BCS is still BS

Recommended Posts

Look at the friggin Rankings, those are screwing Miami.

#1s with the dumbass writers:

Notre Dame (A&H, Colley, Massey, NYT)

Miami in those polls

#4 (A&H, Massey, NYT) [below ND, OU, OSU {A&H} or Georgia)

#6 (Colley) [ranks: ND, Georgia, OU, OSU, VT]

Why do they let these guys factor into the polls so much? without them, the top four would be..

Miami (2.08)

OU (2.40)

VT (3.80)

OSU (4.72)

Georgia (5.36)

ND (5.74)

crack smokin' BCS

yawns

Technically speaking anyone in the top 2 spots is where they want to be...

Since it leads to the championship game.

If Miami were behind Notre Dame then you could bitch.

This is more like whining.

I think it's pretty well-established by now that every pollster jerks off to a picture of the Golden Dome, so it shouldn't be a surprise (ND's high ranking).

Don't worry, ND will lose to FSU, and at least 1 more team this year.

Miami being ranked #6 by some idiots is just outrageous

Yep. They lose their starting RB, the entire secondary, and a couple starting WR's, among others, in the draft and they *still* are undefeated. 26 straight wins (or whatever it is), and still no respect.

add in the 3 starting offensive lineman, tight end and fullback. All drafted into the NFL. no respect.

Pollsters jerk off to ND highlights everyweekend.

Why do they let these guys factor into the polls so much? without them, the top four would be.

Because they're the computer rankings, and that's supposed to be factored in to the BCS. And if there's one thing that computers will never be able to discern, it's the difference between winning ugly and winning pretty - especially now that the rankings were forced to yank margin of victory from their formulas.

I think it's pretty well-established by now that every pollster jerks off to a picture of the Golden Dome, so it shouldn't be a surprise (ND's high ranking).

But the pollsters kinda have it right. Notre Dame is ranked #6 in both the AP and USA Today polls, behind every other unbeaten team expect for NC State. It's the computers that skew Notre Dame ahead of Virginia Tech and Georgia right now. But, to Notre Dame's credit, you can't fake their strength of schedule, which is #1 in the nation.

Oh, there's plenty of respect. It's just that you can't factor in last year's results for this year's BCS. And while it may influence some writers, it won't influence the computers.

Virginia Tech beat Texas A&M, LSU, and Marshall why are they behind Notre Dame.

Because Notre Dame's beaten Pittsburgh, Michigan, Maryland, and Air Force. Those four teams are a combined 22-2 against teams not named Notre Dame this year.

I really thought that this thread was going to be about Oklahoma more than anything else. To be honest, I'd vote for Oklahoma as the #1 team in the nation. And that's not because I don't respect Miami and what they're capable of, but because Oklahoma made two Heisman candidates looks like fools and beat two top 15 teams by a combined 84-27.

In the very least, they'll definitely lose to FSU. Possibly @ USC, also.

Yeah, just like they got destroyed by Michigan and Michigan St. And how Air Force's offense was too much for them to handle.

You've convinced me. Thanks.

Air force has an under-sized O-Line, and can't throw to save their lives, so I'm not shocked they beat them.

I'll give you Michigan and MSU, but I think FSU has too much speed for ND. If ND falls behind in that game, they'll be in trouble. Plus the game is @ FSU.

And USC is just wishful thinking. I know *nothing* about their team this year, but they're #16, so they must be doing something right.

Man, how can this be 4 days away? I'm so anxious. Thankfully it's a noon game so I'm not kept in suspense all day Saturday.

All this debate would be unnecessary if the NCAA would bite the bullet and put a goddamn playoff system in place for football. It works pretty well for basketball, judging by the madness that sweeps the country every March...

it works for the lower divisions of football too. Somewhere after division A, it doesn't work according to the NCAA.

No playoff. The games won't matter has much if there's a playoff. The upcoming V.T./Miami game wouldn't likely be for a bid to the National Championship game. With a playoff both teams would likely be eligible and that's not something I agree with.

If there is a playoff, then all those intellectual heavyweights at FSU, Miami and Tenn. won't be able to get their learn on...

Maybe so, but with a playoff there would be tons of games that would have much significance with teams getting into the playoff.

I don't see why there can't be a playoff.

Drop the stupid conference title games, maybe even knock a meaningless non-conference game out, and end the season in late November.

Take the top 12 teams, give the top 11 bowls the right to the games, and play them all in December. Have the final game around January 1st.
