Guest Redhawk Report post Posted October 21, 2002 1. Oklahoma 2. Miami (Fla.) 3. Notre Dame 4. Virginia Tech 5. Georgia 6. Ohio State 7. Washington St. 8. Michigan 9. LSU 10. Texas 11. N.C. State 12. Florida State 13. Iowa 14. USC 15. Oregon I don't see why Miami isn't No. 1. True, they had trouble with Florida State, but FSU is ranked 12th on this list so they can't be that bad. Oklahoma, on the other hand, had trouble with Alabama at home, who isn't ranked on this list. And something about Notre dame at No. 3 doesn't seem right. I just have the feeling that Va. tech would beat them easily if they played. Of course, none of this would be an issue if we had a PLAYOFF system.

Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted October 21, 2002 Notre Dame is going to be as high as it possibly can until it looks completely crooked. The BCS is probably praying every night that they can get ND into a primetime title game. And until someone beats Miami they should be no.1 in every ranking known to man. Guest razazteca Report post Posted October 21, 2002 to me as a causal college football fan I see that the top 4 will be the money bowl games this up coming January. OSU vs WSU for Rose Bowl maybe, unless there are some NCAA recruiting restrictions, or if the Rose Bowl is the #1 vs #2 game this year.
Guest Leena Report post Posted October 21, 2002 The BCS means nothing now, and there's nothing more I hate than talking about that bullshit for the next 2 months...
Guest Grenouille Report post Posted October 22, 2002 Notre Dame's strength of schedule is probably why they're so high, but they probably won't be a factor after getting crushed by FSU this weekend. They could still see a BCS game IF they win the rest of their games. The only other challenges for them are BC which they should win and USC which I think they'll lose in a close one. This Gator fan will now crawl back in the corner and wait for next year...
Guest phoenixrising Report post Posted October 22, 2002 to me as a causal college football fan I see that the top 4 will be the money bowl games this up coming January. OSU vs WSU for Rose Bowl maybe, unless there are some NCAA recruiting restrictions, or if the Rose Bowl is the #1 vs #2 game this year. The Fiesta is the championship game this year, so the Rose Bowl will probably return to Big 10 v. Pac 10 again, unless the leader from either conference makes it into the Fiesta. Don't know how they would choose then, most likely Notre Dame if they don't get into the championship game. And I'd have to agree with your Rose Bowl picks...WSU has it's important games at home for the Pac-10 race, while OSU looks like the best team in the Big Ten right now, but they still have to play Penn State and Michigan. My BCS thoughts...Everyone calm down, it's the first BCS poll. Doesn't matter who's ranked #1 and #2, both of the teams deserve to be playing for the national title right now if the season ended today. If Miami wants to blame anyone it's themselves for scheduling Division 1-AA Florida A&M for a non-con game.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted October 22, 2002 Margin of Victory is a factor. Oklahoma beat Texas worse than Miami beat Florida St., and Oklahoma beat Iowa St. 49-3, who beat Iowa which is ranked in the BCS Top 15. If Florida St wins the rest of their games, and Virginia Tech finishes with 1 loss Miami's numbers will go up.
Guest phoenixrising Report post Posted October 22, 2002 Quick question...I thought margin of victory was eliminated in 2001 after FSU edged out Miami despite Miami being ranked #2 in both polls? Or is margin of victory still present in some of the polls?
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted October 22, 2002 I think that the BCS formula WORKS, dammit. Right now, Oklahoma and Miami should play in a title game, and this reflects that. The margin isn't THAT big between them anyway. And Notre Dame IS worthy of this ranking, dammit. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge

Guest Choken One Report post Posted October 22, 2002 Screw the offense...They are a great team...Since when has "Offense" be the requirment for a Good team? The defense and Special teams are what NORTE DAME is all about. The 01 Ravens had the same game plan...Crushing defense...Score off Interception. win all games 10-0. Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted October 22, 2002 Notre Dame has had a pretty decent run game most of the year. The reason they are at 3 is because of schedule strength and computer polls. Margin of victory was eliminated, which was too harsh. I agree with Lee Corso, cap it at 21, maybe 28.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted October 22, 2002 Unless N.D Drops two...NO Way won't the BCS manipulate it for N.D to reach a primetime BCS game...Likely Sugar against...Georgia.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted October 22, 2002 I agree that it's too early to bitch about the BCS rankings. The BCS picture won't clear up for another month or so.

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted October 22, 2002 Sure there's no problem with bitching if you feel like doing it, but we just shouldn't get too worked up over it yet.
Guest Spaceman Spiff Report post Posted October 22, 2002 Well, FSU will beat ND this weekend (I hate both teams), so that will knock ND down a few, and help Miami.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted October 22, 2002 I don't know what the problem with the system is. Can you debate the last four national champions it has produced? The other teams that made BCS bowls were all worthy of it, and even if the system wasn't in place, the same teams would have been there for money-making purposes. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest Spaceman Spiff Report post Posted October 22, 2002 The problem lies in the fact that Nebraska was 1/2 of the National Title game last year after getting *smoked* by Colorado in its last game, and Florida State instead of Miami playing Oklahoma the year previous. Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted October 22, 2002 Could you have seen ANYONE giving Miami a game? I'll gladly admit, Tennessee would have been bitchslapped too. I still don't think Miami could have taken Oklahoma two years ago. These days it's a bit more evenly matched. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest Spaceman Spiff Report post Posted October 22, 2002 Miami vs. Oregon could have been a good game, since Oregon had an actual QB. Miami could have taken OK. Bowden choked.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted October 23, 2002 Oregon would of been knocked around by Miami. Maybe not like Nebraska but it wouldn't make a difference. People don't realize how good Miami was last year.
