While the MPD is part of the regional task force, only one of the shootings has taken place inside the District. To claim that "the cops in DC are going to go down in infamy" for the sniper situation is a highly inaccurate statement. Furthemore, at this point in the investigation, federal, state, and local law enforcement offices are all involved, so to point the finger at any one group is utterly ridiculous. This is a highly unusual situation that no area of the country would be prepared to handle. I live very close to where the majority of the shootings have taken place and I think that the officials in this area have done an outstanding job considering the circumstances. Yes this is the most skilled shot so far, the man was killed standing on the step of his bus...The police have basically said "We can't guarentee anyone's safety" Great. There's been reports that Al Qaeda trained terrorist in attacks just like this. It would be a change in direction but it's similar to what happens in Isreal.
